Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0750hrs 1-20 Infantry Information Dust Off called for E Troop element on Bridge 107 for Vietnamese woman with shrapnel wounds. At 0900hrs Bravo Company 19th Engineers at BS748508 found a mine, blew in place, have intelligence that at BS741521 there is another mine, also there is suppose to be 2 mines at the above location. At 1155hrs 173rd Aviation at BS930143 observed 50 people unloading several boats from beach, checked out by Swift Boats, friendly fishermen. At 2101hrs 1-20 Infantry track on Bridge 104 received 20 rounds automatic weapons fire at 2100hrs at BS888284, will keep you posted. At 2255hrs MACV Duc Pho at BS800379 and estimated squad of VC engaged PF ambush with small arms fire and hand grenades, they returned fire with small arms, results 1 VC KIA wearing black PJ with web gear, approximately 22 years of age and CIA 1 AK-50, Sharks cover area with fire with negative assessment.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
July 28, 1968
At 0600hrs Alpha Company at BS887320 engaged 1 VC evading results is one VC KIA. Following items found on person 1 first aid pack, medical supplies, documents, wore black PJ, age approximately 25. At 0622hrs Alpha Company engaged 1 VC evading at BS886320, results 1 VC KIA wore white cloths. At 0820hrs Alpha Company at BS886320 found inside a hootch 2 30cal magazines, both loaded and 2 ammo pouches, destroyed. At 0905hrs Alpha Company at BS886320 found 400 pounds of salt in a hootch, will bag and evac to LZ Bronco. At 1140hrs Alpha Company at BS886320 detained 11 VCS the interpreter says they are VC evac to LZ Bronco. At 1800hrs Alpha Company is now located at LZ Thunder.
Bravo Company
July 28, 1968
At 1055hrs Bravo Company at BS556393, engaged unknown number of VC results 2 VC KIA and 5 VC CIA, CIDG interpreter says they are VC, feels there area about 100 more in area. Bravo Company received about 5-6 rounds as he started into valley, fire increased as they went further into Valley and will day logger at BS548387, request gun ships be on stand by rest of Day. At 1600hrs Bravo Company 2nd Platoon at BS520320 ambushes at BS519322, BS516316, BS506315, 3rd Platoon at BS572350 with Bravo Company (-) at BA TO.
Charlie Company
July 28, 1968
At 0817hrs Charlie Company at BS773376 found 2 tunnels 1-100 meters long 4’ X 4’, 1 75 meters long 4’ X 4’ haven’t been used in at least 3 months will destroy. At 1200hrs Charlie Company is location at BS772374. At 1535hrs Charlie Company reports at BS777323, they received small arms fire with 1 US WHA, hit in leg, Dust Off called and completed at 1555hrs. Charlie Company reports fire came from vicinity of road area, MACV say they had negative firing to West. At 1800hrs Charlie Company Night Defense Position at BS774376 with ambushes at BS768388, 763375 and BS778367. Charlie Company reports the following PFC Robert J. Tucker and PFC Ronald L. Scott where evac to 2nd Surgical Hospital.
Delta Company
July 28, 1968
Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown. Delta Company conducts a Combat Assault touchdown at 0625hrs LZ was cold and 2nd Lift TD at 0645hrs Combat Assault was complete to BS900308, to sweep area of last night activity. At 1200hrs Delta Company reports no change. At 1800hrs Delta Company is at Charlie Brown with ambushes at BS932221, BS917205, BS908211, BS916266, and BS9162673. At 1959hrs Delta 25 has moved into their ambush at BS910200. At 2037hrs Delta Company 20 in their Night Defense Position at BS911200.
Echo Company
July 28, 1968
Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder where they continue to provide direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0855hrs Recon Platoon at BS523674 while moving to present location at BS521674 observed 3 VC coming towards them, engaged with results 1 VC KIA had 1 AK 47 magazine with ammunition with (1 M-26) hand grenade, NVA pistol belt, and searching for other 2 VC. At 1200hrs Recon reports their location at BS521673. At 1655hrs Recon Platoon reports their Night Defense Position at BS521672.
