Headquarters and Headquarter Company
December 28, 1970

Forward Area: (1-20 Infantry Headquarters) is located at LZ Liz and continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0805hrs Primo 5 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 0920hrs Helix 37 in on station, Visual Recon BS7460, BS7660, BS7660, BS7755, BS7455 also Visual Recon vicinity BS680573, broke station at 1000hrs. At 0951hrs Primo 5 broke station. At 1020hrs S-4 Dolphin 671 is on station for resupply. At 1550hrs Q Company bought 2 60mm rounds from Vietnamese children, paid 1 can of C-Rations and destroyed them. Legend: 1st Platoon 83-88, 2nd Platoon 33-38, 3rd Platoon 03-08, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 09.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
December 28, 1970

Alpha Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Liz.

 

Bravo Company
December 28, 1970

At 1040hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon on patrol vicinity BS732476 spotted Vietnamese setting up a booby trap on the trail, VC saw them at the same time and evaded to the west. They engaged him at 150 meters and evaded to the west. They engaged him at 150 meters, resulting in 1 VC KIA, age 25, wearing beige shirt, with white pants, negative ID. Booby trap is a pressure release type 250 pound bomb will be destroyed in place. Later in the same area, 1st Platoon detained 1 male 50-60 years old with negative ID. After questioning him, they believe he is a VC and he was aiding the KIA in setting up the booby trap, and will be extracted to Mo Duc. Bravo Company continued their Saturation Patrolling and Day Ambushes continue to move in their Area of Operation.

 

Charlie Company
December 28, 1970

At 0950hrs, Charlie Company 1st Platoon at OP Pax bought the following ordnance from small children for 7 Boxes of C-rations. 14 3’ length of Detonate cord with booster, 3 M-79 rounds lot no U2211, 1 baseball grenade 15561,4 155mm Artillery rounds, 1 105mm Artillery round, Duster Artillery round, 1 60mm Mortar round and 1 M-79 Law warhead. At 1335hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon vicinity BS693538, has 1 male Chieu Hoi, Truong Phe age 23 wearing all green from Duc Thuan. Had 2 watches and 50 Piasters, said he was a rice carrier hiding in the mountains; claims there are 17 more with 4-5 weapons. Person was handed over to MACV personnel and returned to Mo Duc. At 1410hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon vicinity BS693538, bought 1 RPG round with was head still in it. Paid C Rations to Vietnamese children for it, and destroyed the round in place. At 1700hrs Charlie Company reports 3rd Platoon locations at BS702554 and BS707557. At 1930hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon ambush at BS659565, 1st Platoon ambush is at BS679530 and 3rd Platoon ambushes is at BS756386 and BS759392.

 

Delta Company
December 28, 1970

Delta Company set up Patrol Bases and using Saturation Patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0952hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon patrol is moving out for BS757394 and 2nd Platoon patrol is moving out for BS745416. At 1140hrs at their Patrol Base vicinity BS758390 1st Platoon bought a US hand frag, and 2 Chi Com grenades from 2 Vietnamese children for meals of C-rations, said they would bring more. At 2003hrs Delta Company Command Post, 2nd and 4th Platoon BS747408, 3rd Platoon BS738420, 2nd Platoon BS748410, 1st Platoon BS756386 and BS759392.

 

Echo Company
December 28, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon is moving out for BS755534. At 0955hrs Recon Platoon has linked up with bull dossier vicinity BS755534. At 1615hrs Recon Platoon and D-7 bull dossier is in location at BS453568. At 1820hrs Recon Platoon is in their Night Defense Position at BS751572. At 0840hrs Recon Platoon vicinity BS725431 with 1st Platoon patrol moving to BS759446. They engaged 5 VC with packs and weapons at a distance of 350 meters, VC returned fire approximately 100 rounds of small arms fire. Recon Platoon started to maneuver against the enemy and Warlord 3 came on station and assisted Recon in the contact. Gun LOH reported taking small arms fire from the enemy location. The enemy evaded southwest through the village and Recon Platoon pursued. The enemy then moved north to the mangrove area where they lost their trail. They did find 1 male Vietnamese civilian wounded in the left shoulder. The wound was received during the exchange of small arms fire. Recon states the VC shot him as they moved north toward the Mangrove area. Warlords broke station approximately 1005hrs. At 0950hrs Recon Platoon requests Priority Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese male, small arms fire wound to shoulder and completed at 1015hrs. At 1120hrs Bravo Company 3rd Platoon and Recon has closed on OP Frag. At 2100hrs Recon Platoon is in location vicinity BS752572.
