Headquarters and Headquarter Company
August 28, 1971

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0505hrs LATE SPOT Time of event 0320hrs Alpha Company had a 4.2 dud hit about 5 meters in front of #4 bunker on the south side of the perimeter, will check at first light all 4.2 DT were checked for the remainder of the night. At 0700hrs Resupply Bird Rattler 27 is on station. At 1215hrs Inferno 59 (Bravo 123 Aviation) found 2 hootches with chickens at BS536437. Also found brand new camouflaged hootch at BS512425 blew in place. At 1305hrs inferno (Bravo 123 Aviation) at BS556437 found 4 new hootches, LOH engaged with negative findings, at BS512425 found 4 hootches and numerous caves and a weather vane. Inserted the blues at 1150hrs they found 300 pounds of rice and some AK 47 rounds also took 2 rounds of AK47 fire Blues were extracted at 1300hrs. At 1335hrs 11 Brigade Commander to 1-20 Infantry Commander desire Bravo and Charlie Companies to move prier to requesting any Eagle Flights, Charlie Company to BS6343 or BS6344 and Bravo Company to BS6345. At 2005hrs Inferno Blue (Bravo 123 Aviation) checking Nighthawk Box 54 and at 2105hrs is checking Bronco Perimeter at 2250hrs and checking Snoopy perimeter at 2310hrs and broke station at 2325hrs. Legend: 1st Platoon 59, 2nd Platoon 56, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 97 and CO-29.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.

 

Alpha Company
August 28, 1971

Alpha Company will continue with their Security Mission for LZ Vanguard.

 

Bravo Company
August 28, 1971

At 0950hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon at BS648422 while on Patrol found a trail network with recent activity trail rounds northeast then branches off found many fresh signs and also fresh vegetables. Bravo Company at BS647422 requested a priority Dust Off for a Kit Carson Scout who hit a toe popper booby trap, Kit Carson Scout was approximately 20 meters outside of the perimeter the booby trap was not on a trail. It was made out of a board, a nail and M-60 round, Dust Off completed at 1140hrs. At 1300hrs Bravo Company 2nd Platoon patrol closed on BS655395. At 1627hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon has moved out to their Night Defense Position at BS637434 and at 1630hrs 2nd Platoon at BS642428 found a 82mm mortar round booby trap with trip wire it was 2 to 3 weeks old with trip wire 6" above the ground and blew it in place. At 2006hrs Bravo Company moved into their Night Defense Position at BS643428.

 

Charlie Company
August 28, 1971

At 1055hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon moving to BS652392 and at 1210hrs the 2nd Platoon at BS654396 while on patrol found one Dam on a small stream and an old camp fire approximately 3 days old. Then at BS652398 they found one 4.2 dud and blew it in place. At 1330hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon Patrol closed on BS655393. At 1430hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon moved out to BS654400 and 1st Platoon patrol at BS657391. At 2045hrs Charlie Company at BS655393 heard movement to west of their Night Defense Position. Engaged with small arms fire and M-79 after initial engagement they stopped firing and listened and they still heard movement and determined that it must be some type of wild animals. At 2045hrs Charlie Company at BS655393 Charlie Company called in and reported a friendly fire incident Ladd, Raymond E. received minor cut in the upper chest area. Also Line number B 7267 who received minor cut in the left biceps will be returned to LZ Vanguard if deemed necessary on Resupply helicopter.

 

Delta Company
August 28, 1971

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Vanguard and at 1130hrs Delta Company Patrol 56 P Patrol to BS583430 and returned to LZ Vanguard at 1730hrs.

 

Echo Company
August 28, 1971

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Vanguard, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
