Headquarters and Headquarter Company
August 28, 1969
Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0632hrs Battalion Command Message passed on to companies and Recon Platoon. "Don’t Lose You SOI, Check Your SOI, to be sure it is tied to your person". At 2215hrs LZ Liz Delta Company reports Bunker reports 2 personnel 175 meters in front of their position response putting in 81mm mortars at this time.
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion. At 2320hrs Charlie Company 39 Engineer at BS757477 received 2 82mm mortar rounds with negative casualties or damage.
Alpha Company
August 28, 1969
Alpha Company at 1805hrs is working on Security Mission for Pavement of Highway One, south on left side to grid BS722582 and South on the right side to BS721585. At 1913hrs Alpha Company request routine Dust Off for 1 US who burned his hand the trip flare he was setting up ignited (Madry) ETA 10-15-min. completed 1929hrs. At 2005hrs Alpha Company our OP 87 element has spotted 12 personnel approximately 300 meters east of their location. We are working up data for our 81mm to fire. Some moved south when we fire 81mm on them, check out tomorrow. Alpha Company reports (I believe PFC Eugene J. Madry was treated).
Bravo Company
August 28, 1969
At 0652 Bravo Company Dust Off completed of 1 US personnel injury last night. At 0632hrs the 64 closed on today Logger position which will be the same as yesterday (BS789416) and will accept re supply here. The 49 element is now moving out for a Recon sweep of the Red Ball. At 1845hrs we are moving to our Night Defense Position at this time and by 1915hrs we are in at BS788428. At 2000hrs the 85 element at northern bridge site reports they have received 2 incoming M-79 round negative casualties. At 2140hrs the 49 snake element was moving to their snake location and took a break spotted 3 VC dropped 3 to 4 bags of rice, and did not get a good look at them as far as weapons, clothes etc, there is negative results on them. At Bravo Company 2155hrs my 49 element is returning to the Night Defense Position, one of the RF with them took a friendly frag wound in the back and they now are bringing him back for treatment. At 2243hrs Bravo Company and the RF with the 49 element received information by Villagers that 2 VC had crawled into their Ville and died. The 49 element thinks they were part of the 3 VC that they had fired on, and will check out the area at first light. There was 120 pounds of rice found which was destroyed in place.
Charlie Company

At 0815hrs Charlie Company now leaving perimeter of LZ Liz and at 0935hrs Charlie at BS735448 we have closed on our Day Logger for today. At 1030hrs Charlie Company sent out a roving patrol 44 element will not go further, then 500 meters from the perimeter. At 1055hrs Charlie Company picked up 1 male VCS age 45, no ID card will evac to LZ Bronco. At 1810hrs Charlie Company we are now moving out and at 1915hrs we moved into our Night Defense Position BS725452 with all snakes in position by 2049hrs.
Delta Company

Delta Company moving out of Night Defense Position heading for LZ Liz all snakes had closed at 0540hrs. At 0624 Delta Company is closing on LZ Liz. Delta Company takes over the Security Mission for LZ Liz.
Echo Company
August 28, 1969
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. 4.2 Platoon reports Scheduled fires 9, Observe Missions 1 expend 43 HE and 3 WP rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon has left their snake location and we now in our 0600hrs location at BS825434. At 0850hrs Recon Platoon is moving out at this time. At 1005hrs Recon reports their location at BS839416. At 1150hrs Recon reports we are moving out at this time. At 1240hrs Recon is now located at BS834405 with PZ at BS838405. At 1531hrs Recon will be picked up at BS838405, 1500 PZ 1520hrs and LZ 1520hrs 1lift 4 ships AJAX 24. LOOK FOR RECON.
