Headquarters and Headquarter Company
August 28, 1968
Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. Bravo Company 19 Engineer reports that this morning at 0750hrs vicinity BS775451 found roadblocks with 1dud mortar rounds, at 0755hrs at BS752501 to BS748508 found propaganda leaflets stuck in piles of sand. Also at 0815hrs vicinity BS777444 found a roadblock that consisted of rocks with cans and 6 trenches, also pulled a dud mortar round out of road. At 0835hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC reports at 0826hrs Delta Company 19 Engineer at BS913165 found a road block made by rocks, inside of barricade was 8-105 rounds duds and 4 4.2 mortar rounds duds. At 1016hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC reports Delta Company 19 engineer mine sweep at BS917204 while moving south had one of the tracks received 5-10 round of automatic weapons fire from western side of the road, negative casualties and returned fire with negative results. At 1245hrs Delta Company 19 Engineers at BS911164 were taking lunch break on bridge 88 and received automatic weapons and small arms fire, came from the southwest. There were some E Troop elements also on the bridge and the returned fire and called in 4.2 mortars for LZ Lowboy, with negative casualties or assessment. At 1610hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC have extracted SRRP Silence and SRRP Loner elements and have two new elements SRRP Bonnie t BS767355 and SRRP Clyde at BS880227. At 1615hrs Delta Company 19 Engineer reports at BS919169 a 2 ½ ton truck moving south received 50 rounds of small arms fire with negative casualties and returned fire with negative assessment.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
August 28, 1968
At 1019hrs Alpha Company at BS785378 found an empty M-16 magazines and a pair of Ho Chi Minh sandals in a hedgerow. Also found 2 firing devices for M-26 grenade and at 1045hrs Alpha Company at BS783386. At 1854hrs Alpha Company is moving into their Night Defense Position at BS783386 with ambushes 31 BS775386, 31A BS780396, 32 at BS773280 and 33 BS785379.
Bravo Company

At 1210hrs Bravo Company is located at BS822262, and at 1245hrs Bravo Company at BS829271, saw 2 VC hiding in tree, yelled at them to come down, they jumped down and started to evade were engaged, results is 1 VC KIA and 1 VCS WIA. The WIA got away. The KIA was wearing a pistol belt with 1 bag of US medical supplies, toilet articles, and 2 tablets with Vietnamese writing on them, also had some propaganda leaflets and some papers. At present time are following the blood trail of the WIA. At 1859hrs Bravo Company is in their Night Defense Position at BS822263, ambushes at 31 BS820287, 32 BS811296, 11 BS811269, 12 BS797283, 21 BS830305 and 22 BS845287.
Charlie Company
August 28, 1968
Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder. At 1210hrs Charlie Company reports their locations 20 at BS863340, 23 at BS855348. At 1401hrs 1-20 Infantry requested gun ships at LZ Thunder to extract and insert Battalion LRRP. At 1610hrs have extracted LRRP Silence and Loner and put in 2 new elements LRRP Bonnie at BS767355 and LRRP Clyde at BS880227. At 1854hrs Charlie Company snake at BS868347 and rest of Charlie Company at LZ Thunder with SRRP Bonnie at BS761354 and Clyde at BS880228. Charlie Company reports the following SP4 David Hommerson and PFC John J. Michon is evac to 2nd Surgical Hospital.
Delta Company
August 28, 1968
Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown. At 0621hrs Delta Company at BS908266 detained 1 VCS male approximately 37 years old. Had on white pants and blue shirt, has ID but will check his name against the black list. At 0855hrs at BS922269, detained 1 VCS was in 20’s had ID which said he was 29 we will take him in and check him against the black list. At 1210hrs Delta Company located at BS921246. At 1302hrs Delta Company located at BS913203 received small arms fire, negative casualties, returned fire with 4.2mm mortar, and have negative assessment at this time. At 1854hrs Delta Company reports night locations Command Post and 30 at BS916251, 32 at BS930250, 35 at BS921264, 21 at BS909265 and 23 at BS928263.
Echo Company
August 28, 1968
Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). At 1210hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS787328. At 1854hrs Recon Platoon reports their Night Defense Position at BS784333 with the 10 ambush at BS783337.
