Headquarters and Headquarter Company
October 27, 1969

Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0700hrs Recon Platoon Combat Assault to provide Security Mission for the 39th Engineer’s Paving Highway 1. At 0740hrs Charlie Company conducts a Combat Assault to grid BS708433 1st PZ at 0715hrs and Last LZ at 0740hrs. At 0905hrs Helix 32 FAC request clearance on grid BS722471 nearest friendly are Charlie Company 4 kicks to the south. At 1035hrs Helix 37 FAC request clearance on grid BS702465, nearest friendly 2 kicks south. We had one secondary fire with orange smoke, and also think there’s a good large trench and bunker complex in the same area. At 1400hrs Helix 31 FAC we spotted a couple of Vietnamese either burying or digging up something at grid BS831429. They evaded when they saw us. At 1544hrs 11th Brigade to S-2 needed information for friendly POW: Grid, Date time group, Unit picked up by, Reason, no questioning by pick up unit to POW, Evac to the 91st Evac Hospital. Alpha Company providing is Security Engineer for the Gaza Strip Operation.

Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion.

 

Alpha Company
October 27, 1969

At 0802hrs Alpha Company all element have moved out on for their Security Mission for the Engineer Clearing Operation.

 

Bravo Company
October 27, 1969

At 0820hrs Bravo Company the 76 element and Vietnamese have linked up the pick and shovel people (26th Engineer) and are pulling security (North Bridge). Bravo Company with Vietnamese conducted sweeps and road security on Highway 1. At 0910hrs Bravo Company we have a hit and run accident: 2 Vietnamese were killed, one female 25 years old and 1 girl 9 years old. The bodies were 50 meters apart and both on left side of the road: a US ¾ ton truck headed north from LZ Bronco hit them. The driver/passenger was an E-7, race Caus, about 5’ 8", 43-50year old, with graying hair. One US from Bravo Company said the above E-7 jumped out and looked around and then told the man from Bravo Company that he would go back to Bronco for a doctor. The man (Tolwe) from Bravo Company told E-7 not to go to LZ Bronco but he would get a doctor from Bravo Company Command Post. The E-7 refused and headed back to LZ Bronco. The Front of the truck was mess up and the RF at Bridge said the ¾ ton truck that hit the people continued north and a warning shot was fired but he didn’t stop. Bravo Company also did some patrolling late in day of their Area of Operation. At 1255hrs Bravo Company at BS780445 reports PRU found 1 (M-16) rifle and at BS589603 found 1 pistol belt and 3 magazines of M-16 Ammo. At 1725hrs Urgent Dust Off requested for 1 PF shot himself in the foot, it was accidental as the PF was walking with his weapon pointed at the ground with safety off (216 PF Platoon) pick up site BS778444, completed at 1735hrs. At 2105hrs Bravo Company Urgent Dust Off for 1 PF with frag in leg 217 PF Platoon from RPG or Mortar rounds at BS780423, Dust Off completed at 2130hrs.

 

Charlie Company
October 27, 1969

At 0740hrs Charlie Company conducts Combat Assault to BS708433 1st PZ 0715hrs and last LZ at 0740hrs. Charlie Company will be using Recon in Force and Day Loggers at BS722433. At 1900hrs Charlie Company 95 element is moving to grid BS714436 spotted 1 VC/NVA in a tree line. He fired 2 to 3 rounds at them and returned fire will check in the morning.

 

Delta Company
October 27, 1969

Delta Company Mission continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. PFC James J. Foster was evac to 91st Evac Hospital.

 

Echo Company
October 27, 1969

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0800hrs 4.2 Platoon no expenditures. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 0700hrs Recon Platoon conducts Combat Assault 1st PZ and LZ 0706hrs. At 0810hrs the National Police have been inserted into our location. At1055hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS811458. At 1316hrs Recon reports our Night Defense Position for tonight is BS814477. At 1445hrs Recon at grid BS811452 we received light AK47 fire from one weapon, no one was hurt and we are checked out the area with no results. At 1511hrs Recon Platoon we are moving out at this time. At 1722hrs Recon Platoon reports their present location at BS822459. At 1800hrs Recon Platoon reports their Night Defense Position at BS817471.
