Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0725hrs FAC 33 is putting preplanned Air Strike into grid BS733468 grid is cleared. At 1630hrs Skator 30 location LZ Liz need urgent Dust Off for 1 VC/NVA with m-16 bullet wound in buttocks, Dust Off was completed at 1643hrs.
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion. At 0715hrs Charlie Company 39 Engineer at BS757489 was blown. There was 1 Culvert 402V was blown (by pass) was blown, 1 culver tube was flown form inside of the road from 1 side of the road to the other side, 3 Charges were used, crater was 15’ V 17’ and 6 to 7 ‘deep and approximately size of charge was 50-75 pounds (unknown type). Culvert on the (By Pass) blown by estimate 10 pounds charge the crater 6’, road is passable.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company at BS732454 their Day Logger and will be using multiple patrolling in their Area of Operations. The 83 element at BS732457 while setting up ambush spotted approximately 6 VC/NVA coming down the trail. The 83 element opened fire and believe they pinned down at this time and where bring in mortars. At 2305hrs Alpha Company BS733463 the 83 element spotted 10-15 VC/NVA carrying rice from Ville and put 4.2 Mortar fire on their position.
Bravo Company

At 0632hrs Bravo Company moving out at this time for Day Logger, Bravo and Charlie Companies, Bravo Company our 67, 66, 85, 87 elements are moving out for to day’s patrols. At 0824hrs location of BS825442 Bravo Company Urgent Dust Off for 2 US gunshots wounds, one with wounds in the stomach and back, second US gunshot wounds in are Bivains wound in wrist. Herrinca wounds stomach and left forearm. Pick up site BS825442 Dust Off complete at 0850hrs. The 66 element has made contact with an unknown size enemy force near grid BS825442, The 83 element has 1 NVA/VC KIA had a Chi Com grenade at BS823428. Shot as he evaded, had on black shorts and shirt, when hit Chi Com he was carrying blew up, no ID or any papers on his person, between the ages 25-35. At 0945hrs Bravo Company Dust Off requests for 1 US with heat exhaustion stomach craps, etc Command and Control Helicopter will pick up the man at BS825442. At 1000hrs Bravo Company Bravo Company report on contract fire from both the right and left flank about 2 weapons on each side believed there was 3 AK-47 and one 30 Cal. Machine Gun. At 1045hrs Bravo Company sweeping area where air strikes were put in indications of the area being a villa where VC made residence here. The air strike did a good job on the Ville, destroying bunkers and burning hooch’s. Bravo Company made sweep through the remaining area of Air Strikes with negative further results, moving back to Day Logger at this time. Tonight Night Defense Position grid BS821445 and tomorrow morning plan a Cordon and Search Operation at grid BS801451 at 0100hrs. At 1930hrs Bravo Company at BS816447 spotted 4-5 VC/NVA, we have possible wounded VC/NVA Checking at this time. At 1938hrs request Priority Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese woman and I Vietnam child with gunshot wounds in stomach Dust Off 80 drew fire while attempting extraction and forced to back without patients. At 1931hrs we have 1 KIA VC negative ID and approximately 35 years old, we think we wounded another but he got away. He was wearing a pack, they evaded from US and we fired on them 2 civilians caught in cross fire. At 2025hrs location BS814447receiving heavy automatic fire coming from the west when Dust Off came in, thought we spotted some 51 Cal tracers fire on our flacks, Requests gun ships. At 2125hrs Bravo Company location BS814447, have just received a couple of bursts of AK 47 fire from the wood line will fire some laws on the position. Bravo Company reports that SGT Patrick Herringa and PFC William L. Bivins where evac to the 312th Evac Hospital.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company set up their Day Logger with Recon in Force patrols in their Area of Operation. At 2020hrs Charlie Company moved into the Night Defense Position at BS730490 with the 85 snake at BS727495 and the 65 snake at BS737490.
Delta Company

Delta Company closed on LZ Liz will continue their security mission for LZ Liz.
Echo Company
July 27, 1969
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Mortar Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0700hrs 4.2 Platoon reports DT 4 total expand: 4 He 4 WP rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 0632hrs Recon is preparing to move out at this time. At 0653hrs Recon Platoon at BS854376 found 7 bunkers and 4 hootches under construction. At 0810hrs Recon is located at BS845370 and moving and at 0905hrs Recon Platoon is moving into their Day Logger at BS849375. At 1400hrs Recon element will be clover leafing northeast about 800 meters. At 1530hrs Recon at BS858378 we have a wounded VC and a captured VC. My sub element encountered them while on their patrol. They were eating and when my element came near, one of them evaded. They had 2 weapons and 3 hand grenades. We may have a KIA, but we aren’t sure yet. There were 3 of them all together. My sub element has the weapons and the grenades they were wearing civilian clothing, the Weapons 45 caliber pistol (serial # 2092617) and a SKS (serial #8164613). At 2030hrs Recon Platoon at BS850375, we are receiving AK fire. My element is split at this time but we will move north when we are back together. At 2100hrs Recon at BS865373, the contact that we had left US with 7 US with wounds. One has a large cut on his leg, but the others are minor. Size of enemy force was approximately 8 with small arms and hand grenades. We are moving at this time. At 2115hrs Recon at BS865373, requests Urgent Dust Off 4 US with wounds in the legs received from grenades and small arms fire. Dust Off the following: Horner Frag face, legs and buttocks, Rutland Frag legs and arms, Mitschednko frag both legs and buttock. SP4 William L.Dozier can’t see through left eye, frags arms and legs. Still in field Kempf frag arms and leg, Moore frag wound of leg and Blackwell frag in back of legs, and area, Dust Off completed at 2140hrs. At 2247hrs Recon Platoon we spotted some dinks 5 or 6 and fired on them. We think we saw them drop some weapons we may have killed a couple of dinks. At 2325hrs Recon Platoon report their Night Defense Position at BS865373. Echo Company reports SP4 Ewgenij Mitschanko, PFC Herbert N. Horner and PFC Ollie D. Rutland JR. at 2300hrs to 23rd Medical Battalion and then evac to 312th Evac Hospital (11B10).
