Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0755hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC Phoenix E Troop element request Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese National Civilian shot in both legs, came from a Village northwest of Bridge 107. Vietnamese said was shot by the VC, Dust Off completed at 0715hrs. At 0745hrs Bravo Company 19th Engineer at BS751503 found a mine on western side of road, estimated 10 pounds charge blew in place. At 0845hrs Delta Company 19th Engineers at BS911264 Dust Off 2 Vietnamese children from Bridge 98, 1 head and 1 with leg wound believed to be frag wounds. At 0815hrs Delta Company 19th Engineer at BS884302 Vietnamese brought a 105 rounds and 2 60mm mortar rounds to mine sweep team and Rounds where destroyed. At 0945hrs Military Police will be conducting a small operation in vicinity BS885305 in conjunction with National Police, will make contact with 1-20 Infantry prior to going in. At 1400hrs Military Police when moving through village vicinity BS865315 noticed that no workers were in field with no Vietnamese on roads and the village of Thry Thach (2) was empty. The lack of people was noticed all the way to Sa Huynh. At 1415hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC Request 1 Platoon of APC to act as blocking force due east of LZ Thunder and would like APC to come to LZ Thunder request was denied. At 1530hrs Bravo Company 19th Engineers at BS752504 a 5 ton truck hit a pressure type mine. Two US WHA and 2 Vietnamese WHA, Dust Off by 3-1 Infantry Command and Control Helicopter to LZ Bronco, will tow truck back to LZ Max, blew left front tire off. At 1605hrs 174th Aviation during the extraction of Alpha Company guns ships received heavy ground fire. Gun Ships have 6 VC KIA at this time. Gun ships will request an air strike in area of automatic weapons fire at BS547750. At 2110hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC D Radar picked up 1 individual moving at BS912206 after evading the 20 Night Defense Position, fired 4.2 HE and will send element out to search the hootches tomorrow for we feel target was covered well.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 2245hrs Late Entry Bronco Base Defense at BS81153920 1 ea 81mm from LZ Bronco where shot rounds. At road junction of personnel and Artillery Hill Road, results negative casualties and light damage, ceased Firing of Ammo MA-113.
Alpha Company
July 27, 1968
Alpha Company will continue with their Security Mission for LZ Thunder. Alpha Company conducts a Combat Assault, which is complete at 0925hrs with one Platoon and LZ is cold. At 1015hrs Alpha Company at BS527740 received sniper fire from 2 snipers engaged with results is 1 VC KIA and chasing the other one. KIA has some documents and a few medical supplies. Report from the 174 AVN 0940hrs at BS550720 Dolphin 888 while conducting CA came under intense sniper fire, 25 rounds or more. The chopper was hit 4 times with negative injuries. He was just taking off from the LZ and Shark 66-1522hrs flying at 300'’took 3 hits (1 in main rotor blade, 1 in the sync elevator) negative injuries. At 1110hrs Alpha Company at BS527741, in tunnel now, came across second booby trap a Chi Com grenade disarmed it. At 1543hrs Alpha Company extraction completed at 1540hrs. At 1605hrs the 174th AVN during extraction of Alpha Company gun ships received heavy ground fire. Gun ships have 6 VC KIA at this time. Gun ships call in air strike at BS547750. At 1630hrs Air Strike 6 500pound bombs dropped. At 1515hrs Alpha Company found 1 VC in tunnel, would not come out and results is 1 VC KIA.
Bravo Company
July 27, 1968
At 1810hrs Bravo Company at BA To with ambushes at BS553398 and BS483312. Bravo Company 3rd Platoon had a sighting about 500 meters northwest of their location, 12 men with weapons and packs. They are planning an operation in the morning to round them up, did not call Artillery because didn’t want to give away his position.
Charlie Company

At 1009hrs Charlie Company at BS768409 found a tunnel with VCS hiding inside. Also found several rounds of semi auto ammo, continued to search tunnel questioning VCS in field. At 1810hrs Charlie Company Night Defense Position is located at BS780375 with ambushes at BS765364, BS764375 and BS777368.
Delta Company
July 27, 1968
Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown. At 0920hrs Delta Company at BS930250 called Dust Off for 1 Vietnamese Innocent civilian female shot in breast. The Dust Off was completed at 0930hrs was shot by interpreter. At 1810hrs Delta Company (-) is located at LZ Charlie Brown with ambushes at BS907201, BS928251 and BS927260 and have a element at bridge 94. At 2110hrs Delta Company Radar picked up 1 individual moving to BS912206 after evading 20 Night Defense Position, fired 4.2 HE will send element out to search hooch tomorrow for we feel target was covered well.
Echo Company
July 27, 1968
Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder where they continue to provide direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0915hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS532679 where they are searching and clear area. At 1110hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS525676.
