Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0010hrs Spot Update on the contact in Thach-Tru Village Delta 1-1 Calvary engaged 4 to 5 (VC/NVA) with unknown results. Advisor believed that a VC sapper squad has penetrated the Village, with 1 Vietnamese male KIA. At 0300hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC LT Lewis reports a fragging incident had occurred, request Urgent Dust Off, Dust Off completed to LZ Bronco at 0320hrs. At 1-20 Infantry was inform that the 23 Military Police and a investigation by the CID which will be pick up at first light and to go to LZ Liz. At 0720hrs 1-20 Infantry was informed that CID was en route to LZ Liz by Jeep. At 0740hrs LT Dickerson (23rd Military Police) was informed to return to LZ Bronco the Road was not open. At 1430hrs CPT Parker 1-20 Infantry called Brigade stating that the mine dog handler with Bravo Company did not have rations for 2 days and LT Magruder arranged for the pick up of Dog food at the Southeast Pad at 1600hrs. At 1620hrs 1-20 Infantry reports a Routine Dust Off was requested for 1 RF from 425 RF Company with 102 temperature with Dust Off completed at 1625hrs to LZ Bronco. At 1915hrs 1-20 Infantry reported that a civilian came to LZ Liz at 1830hrs and reported Luc Luong Scout # 361 LE Phone was apprehended by 10 VC a above grid at 1600hrs. He was not carrying a weapon at the time, it is not US confirmed Individual was on leave in Duc My Village. At 1915hrs 1-20 Infantry from B 23 Medical at 1910hrs the Dust Off received small arms fire south of LZ Snoopy negative casualties or damage Aircraft speed 80 knots altitude 1,000’. At 2333hrs 1-20 Infantry Delta 1-1 Calvary has broke station with negative sighting in Box 61 and he was moving to 3-1 Infantry Area of Operations to work box 68. Charlie Battery 6-11 Artillery reports Lillard, Ross N 1LT at 0335hrs at 91 Evac with frag wounds to chest and back on LZ Liz.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1010hrs Base Defense (SGT Saltwater) said that Bunker 36 in Delta Sector on the south side of LZ Bronco had received 20 to 30 rounds of small arms fire to the left side of the Bunker. At 1030hrs Personnel at Bunker 36 spotted to their front 2 personnel no sure if they are men or kids, spotted 1 person running toward the wood line and is now laying down. At 1100hrs a small squad size patrol was going out to check area. At 2356hrs SGT Hayes Base Defense called that 4 GI in a jeep drove to C sector vicinity Bunker 32 and fired their M-16 automatic into the wire. Military Police had been notified. 1SGT Jackie L. Parker treated at 23 Med for multiple frag wounds arms and face at 1750hrs.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission on LZ Liz along with Road Security vicinity BS760435 to BS776435. At 0300hrs reports a fragging incident with Dust Off completed at 0320hrs to LZ Bronco.
Bravo Company
January 27, 1971
At 0816hrs Bravo Company reports their area of operation at BS683584. Bravo Company conducts multiple Day Ambushes at BS695574, BS698575, BS695570, BS684584, BS680585, BS674580, Bs673581 and BS675579 and conduct defense patrols in their Area of Operation. At 1720hrs Bravo Company triggered Booby Trap at grid BS680580. As soon as it went off, 4 to 5 VC opened fire, returned fire and 174th Gun ships scrambled at 1730hrs. Bravo Company received 10-15 rounds of semi automatic fire after Gun Ships worked area, checked are with negative finding. Dust Off 3 US with multiple frag wounds completed at 1745hrs. Bravo Company set up Night Defense Position at BS683584. Bravo Company reports that PFC Ellwyn C. Janke, PFC James T. Bray with multiple frag wounds both legs right arms and back, PFC Terrance Schilling Frag wounds to face, head, leg where evac to the 91st Evac Hospital.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued to work with multiple ambushes and multiple patrols in their Area of Operation and Charlie Company working with RF units with joint operations and working on OP at BS699562. Charlie Company set up their Night Defense Position at BS699562 and BS689533.
Delta Company
January 27, 1971
Weather: Mostly cloudy with light rain and drizzle, wind 8-10 knots, Temp 67-74. Delta Company 1st Platoon continued their mission from OP Frag. At 1007hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon Patrol is moving to BS722433, 1115hrs 3rd Platoon is moving to vicinity BS720445, and 3rd Platoon and Command Post vicinity BS670577. At 1140hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon vicinity BS723437 on patrol discovered 6 fresh graves. In four of the graves they found 1 VC each. In the remaining two graves they found 2 NVA each. Bodies had been dead 2-3days. All killed by small arms fire. These KIA are believed to be result of 2nd Platoon’s contact on day 24. VC where dressed in all black 4 KIA and NVA 4 KIA in green uniforms (See January 24, 1971). Delta Company reports their Night Defense Position locations Command Post and 3rd Platoon BS725446, 2nd Platoon BS716438, BS717429, 1st and 4th platoon BS755574.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry and LZ Liz.
