Headquarters and Headquarter Company
February 27, 1970
Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0410hrs 1-20 infantry Radar at 1945hrs sighted 8 to 10 personnel moving west at BS756456 with negative clearance and at 2007hrs TMF spotted 8 to 10 stationary personnel at grid BS848403 with negative clearance. At 2020hrs at grid BS729469 and engaged with 9 HE of Artillery 155mm and at 2100hrs 10 to 15 personnel were sighted moving northwest at BS725461 and engaged with 8 firecracker rounds. At 2230hrs 7 to 8 stationary personnel were sighted at grid BS724445 and engaged with 8 HE rounds of 4.2 Mortar. At 0105hrs 5 to 6 stationary personnel were spotted at BS804471 and engaged with 12 HE rounds of Artillery 105mm. At 0713hrs The Battalion Commander has left LZ Liz on a Visual Recon and returned at 0820hrs. At 1005hrs Charlie Company all snakes and SRRP have closed on LZ Liz. At 1340hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC the Battalion Commander left LZ Liz and returned to LZ Liz at 1422hrs. At 1800hrs 1-20 Infantry all bunkers are in satisfactory and all have plumb bobs. Charlie Company inspected by CPT Donovan, 1-82 Artillery by 1SGT Thompson, Headquarters and Headquarter Company by CPT Holmes and Rear by SGT Talimino. At 1825hrs 1-20 Infantry do not destroy Vietnamese building (not bunkers). Only the National Police, RF, PF or local Vietnamese are authorized to destroy Vietnamese structures.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
February 27, 1970
Alpha Company began the day by sweeping operation in their Area of Operation. At 1035hrs Alpha Company 61 has picked up four VC detainees, three wearing white and one wearing black, ages from 25-50, they were picked up in the vicinity of 6 evading VC in the morning operation at grid BS785372. At 1338hrs Alpha Company 21 element picked up three Vietnamese detainees 2 females and one male, all three have bad ID by the National Police and turn over detainees to the Military Intelligence. Alpha Company has moved into their Night Defense Position at BS777374 with the 04 snake going to BS783371, the 23 snake to BS769388 and the 63 snake to BS771359.
Bravo Company
February 27, 1970
At 0634hrs Bravo Company the 02 element will be blocking from BS805425 to BS820420 and 903417 and the Bravo Company 24 element is waiting for their sweep to BS805420 and will move out at daybreak. At 0657hrs Bravo Company we are at BS807418 and have 1 slightly wound VC age 20, he dropped an AK47, pistol belt, a baseball hand frag, a one magazine for an AK 47. He dropped these in a ditch in a hedgerow. At 0730hrs Bravo Company we request a Urgent Dust Off for 1 US with multiple frag wounds from BS800420. He tripped a booby trap, a Chi Com type completed at 0741hrs, Name PFC Kenneth M. Noftz (multiple frag wounds left arm and left buttocks at B 23 Medical). At 0835hrs Bravo Company the 21 element request an Urgent Dust Off for 4 US and 10 Vietnamese civilians from grid BS787433, they tripped a 155 round booby trap, also resulting in 6 Vietnamese civilians KIA. A Civilian trip on a wire or stepped on a pressure device about 20’ to 30’ from the US. At 0915hrs Bravo Company late report at 0700hrs the PF from BS785372 spotted (6) VC all with weapons, two with green uniforms and two had packs the PF pursued them for 400 meters and they refused to go farther. At 1655hrs Bravo Company Urgent Dust Off is required for one Vietnamese child with fractured skull, grid BSBS783433 Dust Off completed at BS0704hrs. At 1920hrs Bravo Company 25 element is moving to BS794448, the 03 element to BS813410 and the 63 element to BS787462. Summary of day, Bravo Company Dust Off for 5 US, ten VC civilians with frag wounds from a booby trap 155 rounds, 10 Vietnamese civilians with frag wounds, 6 Vietnamese KIA and one VC with an AK-47. Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0430hrs Charlie Company the 21 element is moving to their block position at BS762404 and closed at 0610hrs. At 1805hrs Charlie Company the 63 SRRP is moving to BS753456. At 1955hrs the SRRP is at BS753456, the 23, 23a, and 23b, are roving patrol on access road.
Delta Company
February 27, 1970
Delta Company conducts a Combat Assault with 1st LZ was at 0832hrs at grid BS778445 and Recon PZ 0804hrs from BS827451, Delta Company LZ at 0804hrs at LZ Lisa 4.2 Mortar was picked up at 0805hrs and last PZ of Delta Company to BS827451 was at 1050hrs. At 1351hrs The Battalion Commander spotted two hootches on the Gaza Strip. The Delta Company will send an element out to destroy the hootches. At 1750hrs Delta Company we are moving our Night Defense Position to BS833439. At 2002hrs Delta Company are all in position 21 snake at BS790463, 24 at BS794467, 25 to BS790463, 61 at BS800452, 62 at BS810443, 63 at BS815435, 02 at BS818425, 03 at BS829410 and the 01 at BS840404.
Echo Company
February 27, 1970
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0605hrs 4.2 Mortar Platoon reports Supporting Fires 4 and Observed Missions 2 for a total expended of 17 HE and 18 Illumination rounds. At 0805hrs 4.2 Platoon was pick up and taken to Chu Lai for their Stand Down. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0550hrs Recon Platoon all snakes have closed and are moving to the LZ for extraction to Chu Lai from grid BS828426.
