Headquarters and Headquarter Company
December 27, 1970

Forward Area: (1-20 Infantry Headquarters) is located at LZ Liz and continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1010hrs S-4 reports Dolphin 671 is on station for resupply. At 1030hrs Primo 2 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 1040hrs Combat Assault of Alpha and Charlie Companies is completed and Battalion Commander is returned to LZ Liz. At 1808hrs Q Company bought 1 155mm Artillery round HE and 1 155mm Artillery HE booby trap, with a pressure release type device, paid 2 boxes of C rations to Vietnamese children, destroyed both of them in place. At 2305hrs MACV Mo Duc, Nui Cay OP vicinity BS753640 received 3 60mm rounds inside their perimeter from northwest. Results 1 RF WIA in stomach and groin area, died before Dust Off arrived, KIA from RF 937. At 2310hrs TMF String 72 C, has stationary target with metal confirmed and engaged with 8 VT fuze105mm Artillery. Legend: 1st Platoon 83-88, 2nd Platoon 33-38, 3rd Platoon 03-08, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 09.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
December 27, 1970

At 0745hrs Alpha Company reports their locations Command Post BS733453, 3rd Platoon location BS753568 and 2nd Platoon location BS731430. At 1040hrs Alpha Company was back hauled to LZ Liz to take over the Security Mission for LZ Liz.

 

Bravo Company
December 27, 1970

Bravo Company 1st Platoon detained 1 Vietnamese male, age 13-15, negative ID sent to Mo Duc. 3rd Platoon patrol engaged 5 VC with small arms fire at 150 meters and searched the area and found 1 bloody shot up rucksack, contained several AK 47 founds. The also detained 4 female’s ages 78, 50, 48, 9, 2, and males 12, 5 who were found hiding 400 pounds of rice and a rucksack. The Vietnamese destroyed the rucksack and rice. The 3rd Platoon at OP Frag spotted and engaged 4 VC, 2 had weapons, and received return fire as they evaded to the northwest. OP Frag received 1 M-79 round and 10 rounds of AK-47 fire later received 1 RPG round and 20 to 30 rounds of small arms fire. From an estimated 8 personnel, returned fire with small arms and M-60 fire, and received return fire from about 2 personnel, fired Artillery checked the area with negative results.

 

Charlie Company
December 27, 1970

At 1040hrs Charlie Company conducts Combat Assault of Alpha and Charlie Companies completed. At 1220hrs Charlie Company vicinity BS699563 requests Urgent Dust Off for 1 US with leg wound caused by mortar tube recoiled, has a large gash above the left knee. Had knee leaning against tube when round was dropped in, and it recoiled on him and caused the injury, PFC Allen F. Desrosters was completed at 1230hrs. At 1825hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon vicinity BS680573 received sporadic sniper fire, 20 to 30 rounds M-16 from BS680573. Estimate 2 personnel are firing and response was Artillery at this time as well as 81mm Mortar fire and engaged with M-60 and M-16 fire. The Forward Observer heard 2 secondary explosions when Artillery was fired, check the area out with negative findings. At 2023hrs Charlie Company Command Post, 3rd 4th Platoon at BS699563, 2nd Platoon is at BS660564, BS673572, with 3rd Platoon ambush BS702559 and 1st Platoon is at BS693538. SP4 Melvin K Hart was evac and returned on January 8, 1971. Charlie Company reports PFC Allen F. Desrosters Non Battle Injury was treated and released from B 23 Medical with FX Left Lateral Feneral Gondyie while firing Mortar.

 

Delta Company
December 27, 1970

Delta Company continued to use Multiple Patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1040hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon patrol closing at BS763385 and Delta Company 2nd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 1 in the vicinity BS745400. At 1331hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 3 vicinity BS746409, the 2nd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 2 vicinity BS740390. At 1930hrs Delta Company had moved into their Night Defense Position with Command Post 2nd and 4th Platoon at BS751399 with 3rd Platoon ambush BS744416 and 1st Platoon BS756385.

 

Echo Company
December 27, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0830hrs LATE SPOT DATE/ TIME/GRID Recon Platoon 261835hrs December 1970 vicinity BS762579, while searching the area Recon Platoon detained 1 Vietnamese female age 25, wearing all black. She did not have an ID, Recon Platoon believes that she is possible VC she will be evac to Mo Duc. At 1430hrs Bravo Company 3rd Platoon and Recon Platoon at OP Frag spotted 5 personnel with weapons moving toward their perimeter from the south southeast at 350 meters, engaged with small arms fire and M-79 fire. VC returned fire and evaded to the northwest contact broken at 1415hrs. Element was sent to check out the area. Saw 4 VC, 2 with weapons (AK-47) but they evaded south, element engaged and got return fire. At 2056hrs Recon Platoon is in location vicinity BS754567.
