Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0915hrs Delta Company 19th Engineer at BS905267 mine sweep found rocks piled in roadway with cans buried under them as decoys checked out cans and found negative explosives. At 0940hrs Bravo Company 19 Engineer at BS998343 and 784427 found roadblock consisting of tin cans, rocks, branches, spikes and nails, was removed. At 1237hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC reports Delta Company 19 Engineer at BS920185 a 10 ton truck and a ¾ ton was proceeding back to LZ Lowboy, they received heavy automatic weapons fire and small arms fire and M-79 rounds. The 10 ton truck was disable the ¾ ton driver picked up the 10 ton driver and went on to LZ Lowboy. Aerial Scout is checking the area at this time. At 1703hrs the 10 ton truck was towed to LZ Lowboy, area was checked out with negative results. At 1955hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC have intelligence information that a sniper is firing at helicopters from old church just north of BS789422. Requested a Area of Operation extension DATE/TIME/GRID from 3-1 Infantry for BS281500 to 281400 August 1968 at coordinated BS780415-BS7843, BS8043 and BS8041, request was disapprove by 3-1 Infantry.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0905hrs 6th Support called and requested a mine sweep team check out the area in front of bunker 18 where the wire had been torn down. Charlie 26 Engineer will send a mine sweep team to 6th Support. At 2315hrs Base Defense reports that Dog in Bunker 53 was alerting, proceeded to fire 81mm H & I in area following small river and tree line in grids BS817396 and BS820394 using concentration #15 as point of origin Also LT Howard in Foxtrot Command Post would adjust fire. LT Howard’s adjustment was drop 100, second round was fired and point of impact was inside of perimeter on artillery hill between the Quad 50 and Bunker 63 and there was no damage or injuries from the round, the 81mm gun crew was from Alpha Company 1-20 Infantry.
Alpha Company

At 1030hrs Alpha Company is located a Bravo Company continued there Security Mission for LZ Dragon BS780402. At 1139hrs Alpha Company at BS776406 found 3 tunnels, 4 X 3 X 3 entrance is camouflage, found M-26 grenade and blew in place. At 1620hrs Alpha Company is located at BS780403. At 1703hrs Alpha Company at BS780415 found a lot of documents and a VC Flag under culvert was evac to LZ Thunder. At 1900hrs Alpha Company Night Defense Position is at BS781403 with ambushes at BS779398, BS775405, BS771410 and BS778414.
Bravo Company
August 27, 1968
Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Dragon and at 0815hrs with 10 at BS862308, 20 at BS841306 and 30 at BS852304. At 1620hrs Bravo Company is located at BS842306. At 1900hrs Bravo Company is at Night Defense Position at BS830302, with ambushes at BS849273, BS844275, BS755288, BS806303, BS817322 and BS822317. At 1915hrs Bravo Company at BS828298 received 4 rounds of small arms fire, return fire and started moving, received more small arms from south approximately 250 meters, return fire after checking area results 1 VC KIA. At 2145hrs Bravo Company at BS832302 engaged 2 VC who walked into Bravo Company Night Defense Position and with the results is 1 VC KIA. At 2203hrs, Bravo Company at BS830302 and 6 Night Defense Position received 4 rounds small arms west to east returned fire, results negative casualties. Fired Artillery in area and had 3 secondary explosions, will move in and check area tomorrow. PFC Harold L. Smith was evac to the 2nd Surgical Hospital at 1750hrs.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder with no change with the LRRP locations. At 1620hrs Charlie Company reports their locations 10 is at LZ Thunder SRRP Loner at BS732373 and SRRP Silent location is at BS826246. At 1900hrs Charlie Company will have ambushes at BS859344 and location LRRP Loner at BS744370 and Silent at BS826246. Charlie Company reports the following SP4 Allen C Boyce and PFC Sidney Kye where evac to 2nd Surgical Hospital.
Delta Company
August 27, 1968
Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown and at 0650hrs Delta Company at BS918242 detained 1 VCS name has been checked it appears on the black list as being VC. VC name Nguyen /Thiet, he is 27, had ID will evac. At 0815hrs Delta 10 with no change, D 20 at BS917264, D 30 at BS918207, D 32 at BS918203. At 1020hrs Delta Company at BS917260, inside hooch found a T&E Tech for a M-60, 1 luster bag, 5 wrenches, will evac to LZ Thunder. At 1409hrs Delta Company at BS 920254 found 5 tunnel entrances found nothing in them, found one Lensetic compass at BS917254 and 2 canteen cups at the same location and still checking out the tunnels at this time. At 1500hrs at BS919255 found 6 hand drawn maps of Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam, that shows streams and trails will evac documents back to LZ Bronco. Also found "C" ration box with medical supplies, some khaki pant and rain jacket. Most hooch’s in area are empty, the people moving out of the area. Some of the villagers are packing at this time. At 1900hrs Delta Company (-) is at LZ Charlie Brown, Night Defense Position at BS915265, with ambushes at BS898269, BS908266 and BS917243. At 1933hrs Delta Company at BS908264, 23 ambush moving to their position and was being observed by a VC, started to evac engaged with small arms fire now searching area.
Echo Company
August 27, 1968
Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). At 1620hrs Recon Platoon will be moving out of LZ Thunder. At 1718hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Recon Platoon is located at BS806341. At 1900hrs Recon Platoon reports night position at BS791320 with ambushes at BS794318 and BS788321.
