Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0230hrs Nighthawk 49 on station at box #63 and at 0312hrs At 0935hrs Recon Platoon 4-21 Infantry Night Defense Position at BS796451, 54 element ambush at BS788323, 54b ambush at BS793319, Command Post has ambush at BS795324 and Command Post b ambush at BS796326. At 1200hrs 1-20 Intelligence at BS746454, 5 VC just entered hamlet, they are to pick up rice and other supplies, it is believed they will stay over night. They are all male dressed in blue PJ, ages 24 to 40 and they are in the hamlet of Hiep An. They said were staying in Mr. Do and Mr. Ai's’ and Mr. Su' house, this is the first time they’re been out of the mountains in a month armed with 1 pistol, Intelligence from Duc My Security Chief, element is moving out to react. At 1400hrs Operation Rice Knights scheduled 1500hrs. At 1500hrs Recon Platoon 4-21 Infantry closed on LZ Liz. At 1600hrs summary Operation Rice Knights running from 1030hrs to 1600hrs with results 20 males detainees age 18 to 34 with 2 females 18 to 34 years of age. At 1845hrs Bravo Troop 1-1 Calvary at BS668577 found fruit that was hidden and a well-camouflaged trail running east to west. Found 400 pounds of rice, destroyed because they had no way to bag it. Found an additional 500 pounds, which they would like to bag like bags for and away to evac. Rice was found in 50 gallon US Type drums inside some hootches, unpolished, good condition this year crop. There is a small paddy nearby where it had been grown, it was in a well-camouflaged hootch which was destroyed, rice will be gabbed and evac tomorrow. At 1940hrs Charlie Company and Bravo Troop 1-1 Calvary in location at BS692531, 12 element in BS685524, 34 element at BS688528, 54 element at BS681529 and 84 element in location at BS688523. Legend: 1st Platoon 54-59, 2nd Platoon 84-89, 3rd Platoon 34-39, 4th Platoon 04-09 and CO 12.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

At 1200hrs Alpha Company 12 element at 665574 requests a routine Dust Off for Vietnamese female very undernourished. At 1212hrs Alpha Company 54 element found 1 home made hand frag made of Petna with shrapnel in C-ration can. Alpha Company 54 element is moving into their Night Defense Position at location BS653574.
Bravo Company

At 0736 Bravo Company 38 element has 1 female detainee, 15, no ID evac to Military Intelligence. At 0827hrs Bravo Company 38 element at 1756hrs found 125 pounds of rice in hootch also 3 boats and 1 reinforced bunker 10 X 8’ blown in place.
Charlie Company

At 0711hrs Charlie Company 84 element is at BS654500, 34element is at BS669506 and the 54 element at BS688512. At 1025hrs Charlie Company 54 element at checkpoint 1 at BS688512 found a slab of ground used to harvest rice, another 1 150 X 75 meters about 30 meters away. Also found 2 sleeping positions about 2 days old and a grave about 3 weeks old, dug up body was too decomposed to tell how he died. At 1010hrs Charlie Company 54 element at checkpoint 3 at BS704516, the 34 element at checkpoint 2 at BS680505, the 84 element at BS680509 and found 2 2man bunkers 6’ X 3’ about 2 years old, both were destroyed. At 1940hrs Charlie Company B 1-1 Calvary in location at BS692512, the 12 element is at BS685524, the 34 element at BS688528, the 54 element located at BS681529 and the 84 element at BS688523. At 1025hrs Charlie Company reports the 54 element at checkpoint 1 at BS688512.
Delta Company

At 0712hrs Delta Company 54 will check Delta Company 84 area of contact negative finding, moving to C/S area at BS719549, with 34, 12 and 04 element’s all in their Day Logger. At 0738hrs Delta Company 54 found booby trap at BS709564, Petna in milk can with a 3 prong pressure device destroyed in place. At 1450hrs Delta Company reports the 85 element is moved out checked their objective area and closed and the 35 element is at checkpoint 1 at BS667547. At 1717hrs Delta Company 86 element closed on BS719549 with 84 Night Defense Position at BS719573. At 1943hrs Delta Company 54 element in location at BS715561, 84 in location at BS715545, 36 Rat Patrol moving out for BS707559, 04, 34 and 12 elements in location at BS715557. At 1210hrs 36 Rat Patrol moved out into an open field, but ran into deep mud and consequently made a great deal of noise. Illumination was popped to their north and west, have negative findings and will close back on Night Defense Position and at 2050hrs report they have closed.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for (1-20 Infantry) TASK FORCE HONIJYO. At 1225hrs Recon Platoon is moving out for BS660584 and BS670585. Recon in objective area and will continue to search villages nearby.
