Headquarters and Headquarter Company
May 26, 1970

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0200hrs Radar 3 to 4 stationary personnel were sighted at BS820445 with Bravo Company informed. At 0435hrs Radar sighted 6 to 7 stationary personnel at BS825454 with Bravo Company informed. At 0530hrs Radar sighted 6 to 7 stationary personnel at BS725428. At 0820hrs Charlie Company 4-3 Infantry we are in location at BS760540 for their Land Clearing Operation with Charlie Company 26 Engineer. At 1020hrs to Charlie Company 4-3, MACV does not want a 2 click radius around Nui An Do destroyed. There are civilians who work around Nui An Do Ville. At 1115hrs Charlie Company 26 Engineer we hit a 30 pound mine at BS758539 with 1 D7 with maximum damage to the vehicle. They are trying to get the vehicle extracted at this time. At 1155hrs Helix was on station with negative finding in the mountainous area. At 1520hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC an artillery jeep blew a rear right tire causing the jeep to turn over and go off the road. There were 4 personnel in the vehicle at grid BS766439. At 1600hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC we request an Area of Operation extension from BS765480 to BS720600 from present to 150600hrs June 1970 for the purpose of combat operations. At 1725hrs Command and Control Helicopter we have 1 male detainee picked up at BS735432 and an ID and approximately 45 and will turn him in to Military Intelligence. At 1750hrs 25 Engineer a total of 22 acres were cleared (300 X 300 meters) at grid BS754538 and BS759532. 21 hours of working time with 400 gallons of fuel expended. 1 D7 hit a 40 pound booby trap with a track blown off. 1 D 7 is a combat loss. At 1800hrs 11 Brigade Colonel Insana will be on 29 May 1970 from 1245hrs to 1300hrs en route to LZ Liz, 1300hrs to 1400hrs at LZ Liz and Bravo Company for briefing and at 1400hrs depart LZ Liz. At 1810hrs Shark 9 has clearance to work grids BS8033, BS8034 and BS8035. At 2000hrs Brigade a convoy will leave Quin Nhon on 27 May 1970 and will cross into I Corp boundary at 1030hrs. They will stay in Chu Lai overnight and leave 28 May at 0800hrs en route to Quin Nhon no security will be required.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
May 26, 1970

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0040hrs Alpha Company the 25 element roving patrol, while walking along the area where the road had been repave, noticed that it had possibly been dug up again and will check it out in the morning. At 0645hrs Alpha Company the access road patrol checked out the culvert next to the one which was blown up and it had some bamboo splints in it and seems to be something to made pressure type device. At 1530hrs an Artillery jeep blew a rear right tire causing the jeep to turn over and go off the road there were 4 personnel in the vehicle at BS766439. At 1625hrs Alpha company we request a priority Dust Off for one US with a possible leg fracture from the jeep accident from the jeep accident on the access road, (Line # F6155) completed at 1645hrs at grid BS735438. At 2105hrs IOS sighted automatic weapons fire at BS776447 which was an Alpha Company element on the access road doing the firing.

 

Bravo Company
May 26, 1970

Bravo Company continued their work with ARVN Forces with multiple patrolling, saturation patrolling and Day and Night Ambushes in their Area of Operation. At 1752hrs Bravo Company the 22 element has one old Vietnamese civilian shot in the side by friendly fire at the Twin Ville at grid BS776443 completed at 1815hrs. At 1803hrs Bravo Company the 24 element has one Vietnamese who is suspected of being a VC at BS775455 and will take him to the Command Post and check him out. At 2015hrs Bravo Company 24 elements patrol is canceled due the PF no wanting to go. At 2025hrs Bravo Company the 42 element will have a mad minute at 2215hrs at the 05 location.

 

Charlie Company
May 26, 1970

At 0030hrs Charlie Company the 82 element had one of their Mechanical Ambushes go off and found one VC dog KIA. At 0521hrs Charlie Company the 42 element spotted movement 50 meters to their west and engaged with small arms fire and checked area with negative finding. At 1200hrs Charlie Company is at the Red ball ready for extraction. At 1225hrs Charlie Company the convoy is moving back to Bronco. Charlie Company is at Bronco for their Stand Down.

 

Delta Company
May 26, 1970

At 1000hrs Delta Company has replace Charlie Company and taken over the rice extraction project started by Charlie Company. At 1601hrs we have found approximately 15,000pounds of rice (unpolished) at BS738572. There was 6,000 pounds in a camouflaged rice bin, 3,000 under a pig pen bin and wrapped in plastic and 2,000 under a false floor in a hootch and 1,000 pounds in the open. All of it was locally grown. At 1920hrs Delta Company we request a routine Dust Off, for one US with an injury due to a fall from his hammock, Name SP4 Kirby, Delbert completed at 1945hrs. Delta Company reports PFC James F. Koch at 1930hrs was treated and released from Bravo 23 Medical with back injury. At 2026hrs Delta Company their multiple ambushes are all in location.

 

Echo Company
May 26, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0515hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Fire Mission 7 for a total expended of 117 HE and 5 C/S rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 1255hrs Recon Platoon the 01 and 02 elements are at BS739472 and the 03 element will be at BS720436 on 27 May 1970. At 2230hrs Recon Platoon is receiving shrapnel fragments from artillery from artillery which was landing too close to their location. At 2145hrs Recon the 01 element called and said they would not give situation reports until after midnight because their Kit Carson Scout would be monitoring their radio.
