Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0116hrs Nui Vong, at 0105hrs Nui Vong had a practice alert achieving 100% at 0108hrs, they fired preplanned Defense Targets and illumination, hand illumination with M-79, negative small arms, Quad 50 fired, Called back to 50% at 0116hrs Alert was judge satisfactory by Hill Officer in Charge. At 0252hrs Alpha Company LZ Liz Bunkers 7, 8 and 9 were inspected by LT Waugh, everything found satisfactory. At 0452hrs LZ Liz Access Road, bunker # 1 had trip flare ignite 50 meters to south of road, engaged with small arms fire and checked area with negative findings. At 0854hrs LZ Liz Access Road mine swept being conducted at this time. At 1030hrs MACV Duc Pho mine sweep team at BS776454 found 2 booby traps both located and dismantled both 105 rounds. At 1050hrs MACV Mo Duc vicinity BS766535, man dressed in PSDF uniform threw grenade into Ville resulting in 5 civilians WIA, Dust Off completed at 0828hrs, Bird #88 4 taken to Quang Ngai and 1 to Chu Lai. At 1115hrs Warlord 5 is on station for Air Calvary Box 62. At 1245hrs 1-20 Infantry Division Commanding General while on LZ Liz discussed Recon contact of last night. Also subjects the closing of LZ Bronco and a brief discussion on drugs. It was a brief visit, mainly to let the 2 nurses he had with him see the Fire Support Base. At 1400hrs Warlord 33 is on station for Box 51, Americal Rules of engagement, fire for fire. At 1540hrs MACV Mo Duc at 1515hrs reports traffic on Highway 1 taking sniper fire from BS727597. Major Gregg MACV Senior Advisor reported after his arrival at the scene, they received approximately 50 to 100 rounds of M-16 and AK 47 automatic small arms fire from estimated 3 to 4 VC results was 3 ARVN WIA. At 1550hrs Warlord 33 while working in Box 51 at BS758323 found 2 hootches and bunkers, engaged the area with resulting a possible 2 KIA, At BS759326 inserted Blues who are sweeping the area. At 1630hrs 1-20 Infantry at BS758323 Blues swept area and have 2 KIA and 1 WIA detainee and 3 other detainees, still sweeping. At 1640hrs 1-20 Infantry Box 51 Warlord 33 leaving Box 51, Blues extracted at 1620hrs found AK 47 magazines, pistol belts, rucksacks and Chi Com grenade vicinity BS758323. At 1645hrs MACV PF Platoon 185 and 176 while on patrol vicinity BS806337 tripped Mechanical Ambush resulting in 9 PF KIA, 3 PF WIA, 3 M-16 damage, loss Vietnamese SOI and Duc Pho area map, 1 VC KIA, PF Recon area with negative results (NKF). At 1700hrs 1-20 Infantry Primo came on station at 1600hrs broke station at 1700hrs. At 2052hrs Warlord Black on station in Box 62 Americal Rules of engagement fire for fire. At 2125hrs Black broke Box 62 wit negative findings. At 1226hrs entered box 61 and at 2154hrs broke for POL with negative findings. At 2215hrs Warlord Black into Box 64 and 66, at 2300hrs out of 64 and 66 with negative findings. At 2310hrs Alpha Company LZ Liz, LT Waugh checked bunkers 7, 8, and 9 and were all satisfactory. Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Chau Lai.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0252hrs Alpha Company LZ Liz Bunkers 7, 8 and 9 were inspected by LT Waugh, everything found satisfactory. At 0452hrs LZ Liz Access Road, bunker # 1 had trip flare ignite 50 meters to south of road, engaged with small arms fire and checked area with negative findings. At 2310hrs Alpha Company LZ Liz, LT Waugh checked bunkers 7, 8, and 9 and were all satisfactory.
Bravo Company

At 0729hrs Delta Company Command Post and 2nd Platoon are in their Patrol Base at BS726452. At 1125hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 1 BS726454. At 1305hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon patrol closed vicinity BS726452. At 2005hrs Delta Company in Night Defense Position with 2nd Platoon at BS713433 and Command Post element is at BS717436.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0635hrs Recon moving back to area of contact found 1 football type frag with secondary safety gone a rubber band was taking place of secondary safety vicinity BS738432. At 0920hrs Recon has closed on LZ Liz at this time. At 1040hrs Recon vicinity BS751449, while on patrol saw female talking to VC in khaki uniform, VC evade northwest, female was detained. At that time observed another VC with pack, engaged with small arms fire swept area with negative findings, detainee was back hauled to Duc Pho. At 1845hrs Recon is moving to Night Defense Position at BS735425. At 1952hrs Recon vicinity BS733444, while moving to Night Defense Position engaged 3 VC, 2 with packs and weapons, 1 with pack at approximately of 30 meters, resulting in 1 VC KIA dressed in green camouflaged, 2 VC evaded to the southwest and Recon swept the area with negative results. CIA was 1 rucksack, 2 football type grenades, documents, and 1 dink bush hat, will be back hauled to LZ LIZ on re supply bird. At 2105hrs Recon in changed of Night Defense Position to vicinity BS733448.
