Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0015hrs MACV MO Duc requested a Urgent Dust Off for 3 friendly Vietnamese with multiply frag wounds from friendly mortar fire. Dust Off completed at 0028hrs. At 0115hrs MACV at PF 140 Chu ME vicinity BS739519 made contact with a unknown size enemy force. Results: 1 PF KIA, 1 PF WIA, 1 PF MIA, and 1 M-16 MIA, 2 civilians WIA. Enemy results 3 VC KIA, 1 AK 47 CIA the results were not US confirmed. At 0255hrs Saber 44 is on station for Box 60 and broke station at 0335hrs with negative finding in Box 60. At 0450hrs Saber 44 came back on station vicinity BS794415 asked clearance to engage 1 lone hootch with bunkers and ammo boxes, received clearance LT Lewis. Engaged area and received 2 secondary explosions, the second causing a large fire. It was a pit approximately 20 meters from the hootch. At 0518hrs Saber 44 is on station for Box 61. At 0611hrs PF 169 Duc Pho vicinity BS786424 at compound received unknown number of B-40 rockets, M-60 and small arms fire. Did have ground attack with results 1 PF WIA, and 1 RDC WIA, enemy casualties where unknown and enemy evaded in a unknown direction. At 0715hrs Minuteman 26 is on station for AMC Ship. And at 0720hrs Helix 38 is on station. At 0838hrs 26 Engineers report Access Road is Open. At 0902hrs Primo 3 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 0935hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC Delta Company Combat Assault: 1 LZ 1st Platoon 0833hrs at BS643566, 2 LZ Command Post with 4th Platoon 0851hrs at BS643566, 3 LZ 3rd Platoon 0926hrs at BS645568 (4 ships). At 1015hrs Primo 3 is breaking station. At 1128hrs MACV Mo Duc, PF 277 vicinity BS728652 in ambush location engaged 2 males, 1 female VC with results 2 male VC KIA and 1 female VC WIA, CIA 2 AK-47 negative friendly injures, US confirmed. At 1535hrs S-4 Hornet 663 is on station for re supply. At 1450hrs IOS at OP wink sighted 3 VC with weapons vicinity BS713570 mingling with civilians in a rice field. Artillery cannot engage due to civilians, enemy is being kept under observation, will engage as soon as civilians are clear of area. At 1610hrs Primo 4 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter and broke station at 1830hrs. At 2040hrs TMF at 2034hrs String 311C target B has stationary target with negative metal confirmed, and at 2036hrs we engaged with 6 VT HE rounds Artillery 105mm. At 2135hrs Saber 40 is on station and at 2210hrs vicinity BS751448 he sighted 1 individual evade into a hootch. He continued to Visual Recon the area, then broke station for fuel with negative further findings. Legend: 1st Platoon 02-07, 2nd Platoon 42-47, 3rd Platoon 92-97, 4th Platoon 52-57, CO-01.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
February 26, 1971
At 0706hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon moving out for LZ Liz and at 0728hrs Alpha Company Command Post, 2nd, 4th Platoon moving to LZ Liz and closed on LZ Liz at 0939hrs and took over the Security Mission for LZ Liz. SP4 Johnny Childers was attached to the 91st Evac Hospital.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0911hrs Bravo Company Command Post with 2nd and 4th Platoon is moving to BS741437 and the 1st and 3rd Platoons is moving to BS743417. At 1000hrs Bravo Company Command Post with 2nd Platoon and 4th Platoon is in their Patrol Base at BS743417. At 1103hrs Bravo Company has Day Ambushes in place 1st Platoon at BS735411, 2nd Platoon at BS735434, 1st and 3rd Platoon in Patrol Base vicinity BS743417. At 1110hrs Bravo Company 2nd Platoon vicinity BS741370 while moving to their Patrol Base detained 1 Vietnamese male 40 years old wearing all maroon. Upon searching the detainee they found a map of North Vietnam and Laos plus misc. papers. In the immediate vicinity they found 20 pounds of rice hidden in heavy brush. The detainee had no ID and will be brought to MACV Duc Pho, paper work to Military Intelligence at Bronco. At 1300hrs Bravo Company 2nd Platoon vicinity BS736437 sighted and engaged 1 VC was pack. The VC was wearing all black and was moving to the west at distance of engagement was 175 meters, with results 1 VC KIA 21, no ID, CIA 25’ trip wire, 3 blasting caps, 6 smoke grenade fuses and 3 pounds of Petna. At 1420hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 1 grid BS644566 and 3rd Platoon patrol is checkpoint 1 grid BS639567. At 1510hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon vicinity BS745416, while on patrol sighted 3 personnel moving in southwest, they pursued the personnel and detaining all three. There was 1 male, 40, no ID, 2 females 16 and 18, bad ID, male wearing white and black, females wearing blue and black and all will be evac to Duc Pho MACV. At 1600hrs Bravo Company completed leaving LZ Liz and at 1750hrs Bravo Company vicinity BS742478, 3rd Platoon detained 1 male 12 years old wearing blue, he was evading to the south. The Kit Carson Scout questioned him and he said that at BS739424 to BS752444 there is 7 VC (5males and 2 females) moving within these grids and Bravo Company will check this area. At 1930hrs Bravo Company Command Post, 2nd and 3rd Platoon Night Defense Position is at BS738431, 1st Platoon BS740416, BS740411, 2nd Platoon at BS739432 and 3rd Platoon are at BS734416.
Charlie Company

At 0725hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon closed on Wood stock. At 0930hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon moving out for BS681549 and at 1310hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon closed on OP Wood stock. At 1825hrs Charlie Company all patrol have close at this time. At 1930hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon has ambush in location at BS682535.
Delta Company

At 0926hrs Delta Company after gun ship spotted a freshly used 51cal position, the 2nd Platoon of Delta Company was diverted from their preplanned LZ to BS645568 and the 2nd Platoon is now checking the area. Delta Company conducts their Combat Assault 1st PZ at 0812hrs and Last LZ at 0926hrs at BS645568. At 1102hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon vicinity BS646535, found a 51 Cal position, it was surrounded by 5 additional position 4’ X 6’ in addition they found 1 NVA shirt (green) with no unit marking, no blood stains or frag holes. Their sweep and clear operation is continuing. Also found a tunnel 11/2’ wide and 3’ in length and went down approximately 3’. It was camouflaged with brush, was destroyed. At 1303hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon is moving to BS646563 as Delta Company continued their multiple patrolling and Sweep and Clear operation in their Area of Operation. At 1340hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon patrol vicinity BS644566 and 3rd Platoon is at BS639567. At 1450hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon vicinity BS639564 on patrol found 1 US claymore with wire and negative firing device. At 1615hrs Delta Company Command Post, 3rd and 4th Platoons are moving to Night Defense Position at BS642565. At 1730hrs Delta Company at BS652554 sighted 6 VC/NVA moving east with packs and weapons engaged with artillery they where unable to observer results, personnel moved to the south and out of view (they were in all back). At 1855hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon on patrol vicinity BS644562 located 1 booby trap 60mm round with pressure release device located in tall grass, blew it in place. At 1935hrs Delta Company Command Post 3rd and 4th Platoon at BS642565, 1st Platoon at BS638561 and 2nd Platoon is at BS646565.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
