Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0745hrs OP on Tripoli observed people on beach, some have stopped, 6 individuals started digging a hole, others coming from beach, have also stopped, carrying baskets, looks suspicious. At 0837hrs 1-20 Infantry Command and Control Helicopter at BS859362 received small arms fire while sitting ship down, took round in rotor blade, negative casualties, element form Recon is going tot check it out. At 0838hrs E Troop at BS913250, mine sweep team is at Bridge 97, 22 elements is receiving sniper fire. At 0850hrs 1-20 request chopper to lift 34 Packs from LZ Thunder to vicinity BS867365, sent 1 ship from 174th and Command and Control Helicopter from 3-1 Infantry and by 1947hrs 45 packs lifted into BS867365 completed. At 1055hrs LZ Liz OP at BS769392 observed 7 men, believed to be a carrying party wearing white hats and black pajamas. 1-20 Infantry Command and Control Helicopter check out with negative results. At 1105hrs FSA Major Brown two barges broke loose last night and drifted to BS926177. 1 Barge is loaded with 35,000 pounds of fuel and one has small amount of JP4 and requests security for boats until tug boats can get up from Quin Nhon to remove.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1906hrs Bunker 40 received 1 round sniper fire and fired M-79 round in suspected area, cemetery with no results. SP4 Larry D. Elliott was attached to the 67th Medical Evac. At call from MACV concerning curfew on civilians vicinity bunker 24, suggested fire near to warn, fired small arms and individuals should depart.

 

Alpha Company

Bravo Company
February 26, 1968

Bravo Company at BS798340 will use a Recon in Force to BS785348 and at 1040hrs 1 US who had a .45 caliber pistol discharge, which resulted in wound. Dust Off completed at 1048hrs by Command and Control Helicopter. At 1045hrs Bravo Company reports their location at BS798340. Bravo Company set up their Night Defense Position at BS791342 with ambushes at BS786349 and BS799330.

 

Charlie Company
February 26, 1968

At 0950hrs Charlie Company at BS663883 made contact with approximately 5-7 VC are calling in Artillery contact broken at 1020hrs negative results. At 1135hrs Charlie Company observed 2 VC moving to rear of element, appeared to have packs and weapons took under fire results 1 VC KIA. At 1230hrs Charlie Company is at BS661877 and at 1715hrs Charlie Company at BS661882 received 4 rounds sniper fire, calling in Artillery. At 1835hrs Charlie Company moved into their Night Defense Position at BS660882 with ambushes at BS658591 and BS664880.

 

Delta Company
February 26, 1968

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder. Delta Company will use multiple patrolling and their Search and Destroy operations in their Area of Operation. At daylight Delta Company conducts a Search and Destroy operations to BS887306. At 1120hrs LZ Thunder EM shot self in foot with M-16, evac to LZ Bronco. At 1445hrs Delta Company at BS862361, detained 20 VCS all military age. At 1445hrs at BS854364, found well camouflage tunnel, large enough for 6 men will destroy. At 1730hrs Delta Company informed the Military Intelligence determined the 20 VCS where innocent civilians and all were released. At 2005hrs Delta Company ambushes are at BS856366 and BS862362.

 

Echo Company
February 26, 1968

Echo Company and 4.2 platoon where located on LZ Thunder to provide direct support to the Battalion. At 0730hrs Recon Platoon reports near the location of contact at BS859361, found 1 M-14 rife, modified. At 0837hrs Command and Control Helicopter at BS859362 received small arms fire while sitting ship down, took round in rotor blade, negative casualties, element form Recon going to check out the area. At 0850hrs 1-20 request chopper to lift 34 Packs from LZ Thunder to vicinity BS867365, sent 1 ship from 174th and Command and Control Helicopter from 3-1 Infantry and by 1947hrs 45 packs lifted into BS867365 completed. At 1045hrs Recon reports their location at BS856366. At 2005hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at LZ Charlie Brown.
