Forward Area: (1-20 Infantry Headquarters) is located at LZ Liz and will continue to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0400hrs Blue Ghost 40 is on station working 78 East to coast 45 North to 78, spotted a campfire at BS813447 with possible bunker or tunnel entrance. Engaged the bunker at that time spotted 3 muzzle flashes 200 meters south, checked out the area with negative results and at 0500hrs Blue Ghost broke station due to rain. At 0915hrs (1-20 Infantry) AMC Ship is on station for Combat Assault of Recon Platoon. At 1000hrs S-4 reports Dolphin 639 on station for resupply. At 1000hrs Recon Platoon Combat Assault is completed. At 1145hrs S-4 resupply bird broke station at this time. At 1635hrs 1-20 Infantry Dolphin 8 on station for AMC ship, Battalion Commander departed LZ Liz for Combat Assault of Recon Platoon. At 1730hrs 1-20 Infantry Combat Assault completed and Battalion Commander returned to LZ LIZ. At 2145hrs TMF String 31 B, negative metal confirmation, with negative clearance due to proximity of friendly. At 2240hrs Blue Ghost 40 requests clearance for Box 65, cleared with negative friendly in the box, broke station at 2307hrs. Legend: 1st Platoon 83-88, 2nd Platoon 33-38, 3rd Platoon 03-08, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 09.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company Command Post closed vicinity BS699563. Alpha Company 3rd Platoon, vicinity BS693538 reports on last night contact reference last nights. Spot Report checked out the area where the trip flare went off and found 4’ in diameter 2’ deep freshly dug in the same area. The hole had two sets of sandal prints leaving to it and leading away from it. Alpha Company 1st Platoon is Patrolling in the Area. At 100hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon at OP Wood stock vicinity BS674577 received approximately 30 rounds of AK-47 semi-automatic and automatic fire from 1 weapon. Fire came from a location 700 meters to the northwest. The rest of Alpha Company was patrolling their Area of Operation. At 1120hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon at OP Wood stock had 2 Chieu Hoi brought to them by a Vietnamese woman. Element of the 1st Platoon, taking them to pick up personal effects and possibly more Chieu Hoi, name Le Hung age 40, wearing blue pajamas, Dam Dai age 46 wearing black pajamas, the well be taken to Bronco. At 1325hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon vicinity BS688525 found a booby trap sign dated 20 December it was 8" by 8" written in long hand on some split bamboo 24’ high (located on side of trail). At 1326hrs 1st Platoon vicinity BS668554 was being lead by Chieu Hoi to where a well concealed trail, which led up the mountains. Trail led vicinity BS665552 and ran in a westerly direction, into the mountains. Also had this location they found a checkbook with a red star in the center, check book was red and blue, 2 ammo cans with unpolished rice in them. At 1335hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon vicinity BS693526 found a over night Night Defense Position with 17 fresh foxholes, 5 sleeping position, an OP to the north and Command Post location, also some mackerel and some C-ration cans and 8 M-16 rounds. Located about 200 meters from where sappers were believed to be located a couple of days ago. At 1924hrs Alpha Company reports locations Command Post, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Platoons at BS699563 with 2nd Platoon ambushes BS704555, BS702564 and 1st Platoon ambush BS677567. At 1930hrs Alpha Company Rat Patrol moved out for BS677567.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company Command Post on patrol spotted and engaged 1 VC with pack, we recovered 1 pack, containing rice, 1 can of milk, 1 can of fish, couldn’t find VC. The 3rd platoon patrol pick-up 4 detainees 17-25 with negative ID, will extract to Mo Duc. Command Post patrol detained 1 38 years old pregnant female, Kit Carson Scout says her son is VC, and that she is a VC supplier will evac.

Delta Company

Delta Company will continue to use multiply patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0812hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon closed on their Patrol Base at BS757389. At 1331hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 1 at 762398 and 1st Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 2 vicinity BS755383. At 1345hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon patrol closed vicinity BS758393 and 2nd Platoon Patrol is at checkpoint 2 vicinity BS766392. At 1933hrs Delta Company reports Command Post 2nd and 4th Platoon BS755396 with 3rd Platoon ambushes BS740418, BS740415, 1st Platoon ambushes BS755586, BS759383 and 2nd Platoon ambush is BS760398.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0915hrs (1-20 Infantry AMC Ship) is on station for Combat Assault of Recon Platoon. At 1000hrs Recon Platoon Combat Assault is completed. At 1635hrs 1-20 Infantry Dolphin 8 on station for AMC ship, Battalion Commander departed LZ Liz for Combat Assault of Recon Platoon. At 1730hrs 1-20 Infantry Combat Assault completed and Battalion Commander returned to LZ LIZ. At 1838hrs Recon Platoon vicinity BS766568, while moving to Night Defense Position engaged 1 person 500 meters to their east, were unable to see weapons or clothing. At 1850hrs Recon reports contact with 5 to 8 personnel, taking small arms fire and RPG rounds. Fire is coming from their east. Requesting gun ships (Sharks and flare ships) approved at 1855hrs, Emergency resupply of ammo brought out to Recon at 1935hrs. At 1940hrs Recon reports still in heavy contact receiving fire from all directions. Sharks were unable to expend, due to the proximity of a friendly Ville.
