Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Vanguard and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0458hrs OP Nui Vong is on alert, has report 100% at 0500hrs and off Alert at 0503hrs Alert was caused by accidental firing of Red Star Cluster. At 0449hrs Bravo 123 Aviation Inferno is working Box 67X, then Bronco perimeter, at 0513hrs LZ Liz Perimeter, 0521hrs LZ Snoopy and broke station at 0534hrs. At 1100hrs Commanding General arrived at LZ Vanguard. At 1130hrs Commanding General departing LZ Vanguard, discussed Personnel strength. He walked LZ Vanguard he had no derogatory remarks about the position, he did discussed personnel strength with the Commanding Officer of 6-11 Artillery about the options that 6-11 Artillery had. At 1600hrs Resupply Bird broke station. At 2230hrs Charlie Company 3-1 Infantry will Combat Assault to OP Wood Stock at 271600hrs August 1971. At 2250hrs OP Nui Vong is on alert and at 100% at 2251hrs and cease-fire at 2253hrs and back to normal alert status. Alert caused by Red Star Cluster person believed he saw something in wire, checked the area, negative findings OK and satisfactory. Legend: 1st Platoon 59, 2nd Platoon 56, 3rd Platoon 89, 4th Platoon 97 and CO-29.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for Chu Lai.
Alpha Company
August 26, 1971
At 0715hrs 1st PZ Alpha Company 1-20 Infantry with 1st LZ at 0728hrs and 2nd PZ at 0719hrs with 2nd LZ at 0752hrs. Alpha Company is setting up defense perimeter for LZ Vanguard at BS577433. At 2000hrs Alpha Company found old 250 pound bomb with Petna at LZ Vanguard, will blow in place when we depart. It was rusty with no lot # on it. LZ Liz turned over at 1300hrs for ARVN, Alpha Company set up Security Mission LZ Vanguard.
Bravo Company
August 26, 1971
Bravo Company conducts a Combat Attack from a PZ at LZ Liz at 1405 to LZ at BS649413 completed at 1600hrs. Bravo Company has the Security Mission for LZ Vanguard at BS577433 and 1-20 Infantry established their Security for LZ Vanguard.
Charlie Company

At 0500hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon 56 V Patrol is moving out to BS653401, At 1100hrs Charlie Company 56H Patrol is moving out and at 1115hrs Charlie Company requests for Scout Dogs has been approved for 0600hrs August 27 at 198th Pad.
Delta Company
August 26, 1971
Delta Company has the Security Mission for LZ Vanguard and working on the perimeter defense positions LZ Vanguard located at BS577433. At 1105hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon is moving to BS575428 and closed at 1630hrs. At 1735hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon closed on LZ Vanguard.
Echo Company
August 26, 1971
Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Vanguard, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
