Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0415hrs Weather Report DATE/Time 250130 October 1970 Typhoon Kate 90 nautical miles east to northeast of Chu Lai is moving west at 9 knots, will hit shore 251200hrs to 1300hrs 35 to 45 miles north of Chu Lai. By 0400hrs there will be 30 knots winds, by 0700hrs 50 knots winds. Sea level 6 to 10 feet above normal by late morning, 4"to 8" rain in the next 24 hours. At 0820hrs Weather Report increasing rains today with winds at 20 knots gust to 30 knots. At 24 October 2010hrs radar picked up a target at grid BS744382 of 20 to 25 a stationary target Charlie Battery 6-11 Artillery shot at 2017hrs 48 HE VT rounds 105 Artillery. 1 hour later at grid BS746385 radar again sighted movement and dragging at 2113hrs, Artillery engaged at 2119hrs and a 3rd sighting again at BS741388 and shot at 2142hrs. After last sighting, 1 round was fired every 5 minutes until 0600hrs on the target. Recon moved out at 0845hrs to check radar sighting. They found 1 NVA KBA, Khaki uniform with NVA rucksack, 18 Chi Com in good condition, 1 Bangalore torpedo in good condition, 1 anti tank mine. Also found 2 first aid pouches, pistol belt, 15 packs NVA type (sandbags with straps, documents, medical supplies, 100 pounds of rice each man had 5 to 10 pounds polished rice. Along with 1 60mm mortar tube with 6 rounds, 4 105 Artillery duds rounds found on trail leading north toward LZ Liz and south OP and all items will be brought to LZ Liz. At 1855hrs Radar spotted 15 to 20 personnel where moving northeast at grid BS665608, given negative clearance due to proximity of friendly. At 1918hrs Radar spotted 8 to 10 personnel at grid BS685607 and 8 to 10 personnel at grid BS676604. Artillery fired on the second target 32 HE VT rounds 105 Artillery, negative clearance for target number 1 due to proximity of friendly. At 1927hrs 1-20 Infantry request Area of Operation Extension Date/Time/Grid 260600hrs to 302400hrs, from BS6743 to BS7243 to BS7137 to BS6737 to BS6742, Purpose of Operation for Delta Company to conduct Combat Assault (is a go). To Brigade time 2204hrs received by Richardson Area of Operation B 81 approved as follows Bs7043 to BS6737 to BS7137 to BS710404 to BS720404 to BS720418 along boundary to start. At 1950hrs Radar reports Nui Vong Provisional PF spotted suspected movement to south and southwest of defensive wire. Legend 1st Platoon 03-08, 2nd Platoon 53-58, 3rd Platoon 83-88, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 43.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

At 0925hrs Alpha Company lost SOI was found at 0920hrs in same area as reported lost. No evidence of compromise, Alpha Company 43 element is now moving to BS758567. At 1312hrs Alpha Company detained 8 females at grid BS758567 until after the Kit Carson Scout has questioned them. They decided to detain only 2 of them, and will back haul to Military Intelligence. Military Intelligence reported back, both are members of the Woman’s Association. Alpha Company picked up a 14 years old male carrying a home made rucksack containing 1 set of black BJ, a piece of green parachute, and a homemade flashlight at grid BS755561 and was brought to Military Intelligence. Also the 55 element received 10 rounds of AK 47 fire 150 meters to their north at grid BS767564 and returned fire, checked out area found 2 male detainees age 40-45 dressed in all black, one is TRAN TRI believed to be a tax collector in area (info from civilians), both had negative ID back hauled to Military Intelligence. Alpha Company reports locations 85 element in location at BS764546, 05 at BS754564, 55 at BS767556, 53 at BS754564 and 83 at BS754564.

Charlie Company

At 1920hrs Charlie Company reports locations 53 in location at BS728599, the 55 element moving to BS741563, the 86 element location is at BS742558 and the 03 element is in location BS742577.
Delta Company
October 25, 1970
At 0850hrs Delta Company the 53 element is moving to BS742567 with the 85 element is moving to BS756559. At 1103hrs Delta Company the 06 element moving to BS741566 and 86 closed on BS765560. The Ville in area checked area and found to be deserted, with no trace of 2 NVA. Earlier, the Delta Company report that 86 element at BS748601has spotted 2 NVA, who evaded into a mangrove; they were dressed in green uniforms. At 1620hrs Delta Company 56 is moving to BS742564, 86 is moving to BS744555 and at 1715hrs 05 is moving to BS746576. At 1900hrs Delta Company reports 83-63-02 in Night Defense Position at BS743557, 53 BS728599 and 83 BS737607.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0845hrs Recon is leaving LZ Liz for BS744382. At 1935hrs Recon Platoon (in reference to event at 211200hrs) while searching the 16 rucksacks, found parts of human intestines indicating another KBA which would bring the total of 2 KBA. Recon Platoon believed that at least 14 other enemy were wounded. This observation was made after a careful analysis of fragment spray, mated grass, the dispersion of packs in the area and fragmented packs with bloodstains (15). It appears that 1 KBA was a medic due to the fact 3 sterile bandages and 5 sterile surgery blades were found on the body. CIA 16 rucksacks, 1 60mm mortar tube and 8 60mm mortar rounds, 1 anti tank mine 4 pounds circular, 23 chi com ¼ homemade and ¾ manufactured. Also 1 bangalore torpedo 5’ long and OD color, 200 AK 47 rounds, 1 drum with 70 rounds from RPD machinegun, 100 pounds of polished rice. There was a hasty attempt to conceal these items.
