Headquarters and Headquarter Company
February 25, 1969

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0045hrs 2nd ARVN-Colonel Hutter, senior advisor to 2nd ARVN Div, Called Colonel Donaldson informing him that 2nd ARVN Division is requesting the 11th Brigade to send 1 Battalion into Nghia Hanh area. Colonel Donaldson agrees with Colonel Hutter, at this time that there is no evidence of a major battle and that the 11th brigade should not be committed now unless the present tactical situation changes. If the enemy forces can be better located or in the event the enemy attacks on either Nghia Hanh or Quang Ngai in such a force the 2 ARVN Division units are unable to hold the attacks. At 0030hrs SRRP Delta Company SRRP Detroit at BS639561 heard much movement to southwest of Night Defense Position, also observed 3 unknown type flags moving within 75 meters of their position. SRRP called for extraction, sharks, flare ship and two slicks for extraction made pick up at 0148hrs and closed on LZ Dragon at 0155hrs. At 0430hrs LZ Liz received 4-5 rounds unknown type rockets, (believe to be B-40), fired was directed towards the artillery, negative casualties, fire came from vicinity BS756436, called in artillery with unknown results. 1-20 Infantry reports Charlie Company 3-1 Infantry at 0724hrs vicinity BS782396 engaged 7 VC evading toward Duc Pho with results 2 VC KIA male, 18-25 with black PJ and negative ID. Bravo Company 3-1 Infantry is located at LZ Bronco. At 1425hrs 1-20 Infantry reports Charlie Company 3-1 Infantry locations 14 is at BS798350, 44 at BS782375, 74 at BS768402 and 19 SRRP Bill. At 1906hrs LZ Liz Bunker #6 spotted 1 VC 500 meters to front, wearing gray and fired 81mm mortars, negative assessment. At 2000hrs Charlie Company 3-1 Infantry at BS743527 received small arms fire, negative casualties called in artillery with unknown results. At 2030hrs Charlie Company 3-1 Infantry at BS826362 sprang ambush on at least 4 VC received M-79 and small arms fire, negative casualties, Harks on station engaged area with unknown results.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1155hrs LZ Bronco received 3 140 rockets and impacted inside perimeter results no casualties or damage.

 

Alpha Company
February 25, 1969

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown. At 0205hrs LZ Charlie Brown received 12 rounds 82mm mortar, results 7 US WHA (4 from Alpha Company, 2 from E Troop 1-1 Calvary and 1 serious from the navy at Gilligan’s Island). Gilligan’s Island also received 1 dud 4.2 round, and 3 82mm, Dust Off completed at 0315hrs Sharks on station reported negative sightings, 4.2 was friendly. At 1025hrs vicinity BS933228, 1 US broke his limb fell off track, Dust Off to Bronco completed at 1104hrs. At 1123hrs E Troop at Charlie Brown hard stand tracks received small arms fire and M-79 rounds return fire with 4.2 mortars. At 1220hrs Alpha Company has 44 on Bridge 94 and 45 on Bridge 95. At 1713hrs at BS885295 tracks and convoy in contact Helix 33 and Radish 5 are in the area. At 0905hrs E Troop at BS934230 found 750 pound bomb, EOD will destroy. Alpha Company reports SSGT Kenneth H. Kruse was attached to 312 Evac Hospital.

 

Bravo Company
February 25, 1969

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0800hrs Bravo Company at Bs754438 found 3 NVA killed by artillery, less than 24 hours old, also found pistol belt, 2 packs, 12 Chi Com hand grenades, 1 RPG round, 1 7.62 pistol NS: 11036 CIA. At 0910hrs Bravo Company at BS764448 engaged 1 VC evading results 1 VC KIA. At 0935hrs Bravo Company at BS760441 engaged 3 VC evading with result 1 VCKIA and 2 detained for questioning evac to LZ Liz. At 1025hrs Bravo Company at BS777437 detained 5 VC suspects for questioning. At 1220hrs Bravo Company has 15 at BS777437 and 45 BS760442. At 1906hrs LZ Liz Bunker #6 spotted 1 VC 500 meters to front, wearing gray, fired 81mm mortars negative assessment.

 

Charlie Company
February 25, 1969

Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder. At 1220hrs Charlie Company 74 is at BS890306 and at 1425hrs Charlie Company 46 is at BS873312. At 1710hrs Charlie Company at BS885295, truck convoy in contact Helix 33 and Radish 5 are in area.

 

Delta Company
February 25, 1969

Delta Company OPCON to 4-21 Infantry continued their Security Mission for LZ Dragon. At 0030hrs SRRP Detroit at BS639561hear much movement to southwest of the Night Defense Position, also observed 3 unknown type flags moving within 75 meters of their position. Called for extraction, with Sharks, flare ship and two slicks for extraction made pick up at 0148hrs and closed on LZ Dragon at 0155hrs. At 1700hrs Delta Company at BS735522 detained 3 VC suspects for questioning. At 2100hrs 1-20 Infantry requested two scout dog teams for 1000hrs 26 February 69, to work in area around LZ Dragon Pick up LZ Budweiser pad at 1000hrs. Alpha Company reports 1LT Leslie T. Smith and SP4 David J.? was attached to 312 EVAC.

 

Echo Company
February 25, 1969

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Charlie Brown, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 1120hrs E Troop 1 Cav received M-79 and small arms fire and returned fire with 4.2 Mortar rounds with unknown results. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz.
