Forward Area: (1-20 Infantry Headquarters) is located at LZ Liz and will continue to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0625hrs Weather: Partly cloudy with increased cloudiness, light rain, the temp 79 to 73, with winds north to northwest, 8 to 10 knots, outlook through Saturday little change. At 0915hrs S-4 reports Dolphin 671 on station for resupply. At 1145hrs Primo 4 breaking station, 2 hours 45 minutes. Legend: 1st Platoon 83-88, 2nd Platoon 33-38, 3rd Platoon 03-08, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 09.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

At 0716hrs Alpha Company Command Post BS699563, 1st Platoon OP Wood stock vicinity BS673563, 3rd Platoon on OP PAX BS693538 and Alpha Company Command Post vicinity BS699563. Requested a routine Dust Off for PFC Leo Knuckles with fever of 102 Medic suspected Malaria or severe case of the flue, Dust Off completed at 1733hrs. At 1927hrs Alpha Company Command Post 1st 2nd, 3rd Platoon BS699563 with 3rd Platoon ambush at BS699563, 2nd Platoon ambushes BS703558, BS698567 and 1st Platoon ambushes BS684575, BS676576. At 2013hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon at OP Pax vicinity BS693538, potted 12 VC/NVA east of their perimeter proximity 100 meters. They received incoming small arms fire, requests illumination at 2015hrs shot at 2018hrs. Requests HE vicinity BS683535 at 2025hrs, shot at 2027hrs VC evaded to the south into a wood line. At 2050hrs 3rd Platoon moved out to check the area and Sweep the area with negative results. It had been Rome plowed and was difficult to check will check again in morning.
Bravo Company

At 0735hrs Bravo Company 3rd Platoon at OP Frag sent out a small patrol to check out the Mechanical Ambush that went off last night, found foot prints and drag marks, that went to the south about 10’ more before they stopped, no blood trails or other finding. At 0820hrs 3rd Platoon at OP Frag ran into 3 VC, 1 carrying an M-79. He fired one round at the patrol; however they could not engaged because he was out of range. Fire came from and he evaded to the southwest. At 0945hrs Bravo Company 3rd Platoon at OP Frag received 15-20 rounds of AK-47 semi-automatic fire from the northeast at BS753568 approximately 5-600 meters, estimated 6 VC to the northeast and 2 more to the west. At 1600hrs the 3rd Platoon at OP Frag took 1 unidentified type of rocket and 50 rounds of small arms fire, requested Urgent Dust Off for 4 RF with gunshots wounds, Gun Ships requested with Dust Off. There was 1 RF KIA as a result of the now identified RPG round, the other 3 wounded by same round. At BS754574 several US/RF soldiers where washing at a well and estimated 2 squads of VC/NVA fired 5 RPG and small arms at them. VC/NVA evaded to the east, and friendly element was not prepared to return fire. We requested a Fire Mission and received shot at 1809hrs 1st Platoon vicinity BS728435, spotted and detained 1 Vietnamese female 36 years old and will extract tomorrow.

Delta Company
December 25, 1970
0001hrs Delta Company, vicinity BS758393 detained 1 old male dressed in red on red, needs a shave badly. Have many satchels with him in a makeshift rucksack. Has 9 animals with him, looks like small water buffalo, one has a sick nose, it all red. Has ID name is Kringle. Delta Company 3rd Platoon Patrol closed BS753383, 2nd Platoon Patrol BS754399 and 1st Platoon closed BS754386. At 0625hrs Weather: partly cloudy with increased cloudiness, light rain, temperature is 79-73, winds north by northwest, 8-10 Knots, outlook through Saturday little change. At 1530hrs Delta Company Command Post vicinity BS758393 had young Vietnamese male bring them a nose to a 250 pound bomb, paid 2 cans of C-rations and it was blown in place. The Kit Carson Scout questioned him and he would give no indication of where he got the round. He approached their position from the south. At 1942hrs Delta Company 2nd, 4th Platoon in location BS758393, 1st and 3rd Platoon at BS757388.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon will continue their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry.
