Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1645hrs 1-20 Infantry requested Area of Operation to extension to B-106 be extended to 191400hrs September 1970. At 2020hrs 1-20 Infantry requests Area of Extension Date/Time/Grid 250800hrs to 270800hrs BS6454 to BS6449 to BS7149 to BS710437, purpose Charlie Company 1-20 Infantry and 1 platoon Bravo Troop 1-1 Calvary operation in reaction to intelligence. Area of Operation was approved Major Fraces as follows BS5454 to BS5450 to BS7150 to BS710537 after 260800hrs to the rest of the request will be clear. Legend: 1st Platoon 54-59, 2nd Platoon 84-89, 3rd Platoon 34-39, 4th Platoon 04-09 and CO 12.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
September 24, 1970
At 1000hrs Alpha Company 86 found at BS663575 a satchel charge in a hootch, 1 foot long and ½ foot wide, also 2 PRC 25 batteries, and some shrapnel all items destroyed. Alpha Company at their Day Logger uncovered a 500’s of rice buried underground in tin cans, element is bagging it unpolished, this years crop, requesting 1 bundle of sand bags. At 1545hrs Alpha Company at BS670570 1 routine Dust Off for US Combs with social disease. At 1655hrs Alpha Company 04 element at BS672572 found partially buried near a wall, 2 pounds of an unknown type white powder will be evac to LZ Liz on back haul. Alpha Company 57 is at BS656575 found 10 pair of GI sox, 1 fatigue jacket, 2 VC ponchos, 1 blanket, 1 ammo can, all hidden inside the hooch. Also found boot tracks leading into the Ville, a day old with diamond design on the toe. At 1900hrs 34 is moving to BS685572, 54 to BS653576, 85 is moving to BS648589. At 2215hrs Alpha Company 54 element at BS653572 was setting up a preplanned Mechanical Ambush, heard movement in a tree line to their left, across the river. Platoon element was the first to see estimated squad size force enemy came across the river right into 54 at location. The M-60 machinegun opened up on the lead 3 of the enemy, resulting in 2 VC KIA and one VC threw a hand frag grenade resulting in 5 US WIA and we Dusted Off, 4 WHA. Alpha Company reports PFC Bruce D Harrison was treated and released from B 23 Medical with frag wound to head and record, PFC Eugene Gainey treated and released by B 23 Medical with frag wound right shoulder, PFC John H. Beacrtell was treated and released from Battalion aid with frag wound to neck, PFC Murray House was treated and released from Battalion Aid, Pvt. Carcie F. Derrero treated and released by B 23 Medical with frag wound right eye and SGT William C. Taylor was treated and released from Battalion Aid with frag wound left arm.
Bravo Company
September 24, 1970
At 0450hrs Bravo Company P84 element engaged 15 enemies located at BS663585 moving south to west at 100 meters with small arms fire, VC evaded east, check area at first light. At 0930hrs Bravo Company at BS738634 the 54 element while moving to Day Logger found what they believe to be a NVA meeting hootch, House #111 area NO 404. There was approximately 200 pounds of rice spread around in 5 different locations, 2 wool coats, several pair of black PF, Hootch had 2 7 X 10 rooms. At 0945hrs Bravo Company 36 element at BS738577 picked up 1 male 36, had ID by Vietnamese thought he was VC so he was evac to Military Intelligence. At 1520hrs Bravo Company 54 element received close sniper fire from BS733636 after returning fire and sweeping the area. They observed a woman, closer check showed that she was shot in left rear shoulder blood already dried, indicating she had been hot at least 30 minutes prior, by the medics estimate. They interviewed Vietnamese civilians, who said the woman had been shot by ARVN unit and they had earlier contact toward the southeast at BS757623 completed at 1533hrs. At 1945hrs Bravo Company 84 element spotted 2 groups of personnel right after dark, requested gun ships and flare ships, artillery and engaged the personnel, had negative finding, due to darkness and tall grass sweep again in morning.
Charlie Company

At 1730hrs Charlie Company at BS740445 the 34 element requests, routine Dust Off I US 103 temp #172 completed at 1757hrs.
Delta Company
September 24, 1970
At 0700hrs Delta Company 84, 04 and 14 element in location at BS753558, the 54 element is at BS745573 and the 34 element is in location at BS746553. At 0855hrs Delta Company 85 at checkpoint 1, found 700 pounds of rice after checking are completely evac with back haul. The rice was unpolished, this year crop, in good condition and was inside family bunker. At 1230hrs Delta Company 34 element closed on BS746553, the 57 element is moving out to BS739569. At 1820hrs Delta Company 85 element stay behind ambush in location BS733558 and 86 is now moving out for BS759569. At 1950hrs Delta Company 12 element reports is in location at BS760565, 34 to BS743556, 54 at BS730578 and 87 patrol 3 hours earlier.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for (1-20 Infantry) TASK FORCE HONIJYO. Recon Platoon continued their OP operations in their Area of Operation.
