Headquarters and Headquarter Company
October 24, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units their Area of Operations. At 0808hrs Aerial Scouts at BS864365 observed 3 VCS evading results 3 VCS apprehended, will be evac to POW cage LZ Bronco. At 0828hrs 1-20 Infantry Command and Control Helicopter at BS889325 observed 6 males VCS evading on beach results 6 VCS detained and evac to POW cage LZ Bronco. At 0830hrs Aerial Scouts detained 1 VCS at BS905302, at 0848hrs detained 1 VCS at BS893310, and at 0745hrs Aerial Scouts detained at BS873349 all where evac to LZ Bronco. At 1040hrs 11th Infantry Brigade request Aerial Scouts conduct a snatch mission in the Song Ve Village vicinity BS6148-BS6040 come upon brigade command push upon completion of snatch and perform a Visual Recon for Delta Company 1-20 Infantry at BS915212 come upon Skeimer 96 Gusty Insult. At 1156hrs 1-20 Infantry request Aerial Scout 25 October 68 work for Delta Company 1200-1300hrs for visual Recon vicinity BS904210, Work for Charlie Company from 1300hrs -1400hrs,work for Bravo Company from 1400-1500 738520, work for Alpha Company from 1500hrs -1600hrs vicinity BS743433. Alpha and Bravo Companies remain OPCON to the 3-1 Infantry.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1518hrs 6-11 Artillery on second covert north of Duc Pho found ¾ ton truck hit a hole is unable to return to this location under own power. Request a vehicle to asset believe it is from a red leg element at LZ Liz. At 1625hrs E Troop at BS816349 while returning to LZ Bronco an APC took 1 round of sniper fire, negative casualties, negative damage checked are with negative results. At 2200hrs the 173 Airborne request permission to position 1 battery of 105mm on LZ Lowboy 25 October estimate 30 days operation from that location no requirement for Area of Operation extension, any fire into 11 Brigade Area of Operation will be cleared as required.

 

Alpha Company
October 24, 1968

Alpha Company OPCON to 3-1 Infantry, Alpha Company (-) at BS799430, at BS799430, with 68 and 40 at BS784438 and at 1613hrs Alpha Company is at BS788421 and by 1814hrs Alpha Company on LZ Liz.

 

Bravo Company
October 24, 1968

Bravo Company (-) at LZ Dragon and has one platoon at LZ Dottie. Bravo Company is OPCON to 3-1 Infantry with 20 and 68 at BS725505.

 

Charlie Company
October 24, 1968

At 1147hrs Charlie Company center of mass BS860355 and at 1259hrs at BS863340 Charlie Company had one Vietnamese PF hit a booby trap 81mm round 2 US WHA (E) 1 Vietnamese WHA Dust Off was completed at 1313hrs. PFC Howard had frag wounds of chest legs and head sent to Chu Lai condition fair, SP4 Rodigues had possible fracture leg, frag in chest and legs sent to Chu Lai condition fair. The Vietnamese was DOA at 6th Support. Charlie Company was extraction from BS860337 to LZ Thunder 1st PZ 1610hrs Last LZ 1640hrs completed operation. Charlie Company reports the following SP4 Diego Rodrigues and PFC Garland W. Howard with frag wounds where evac to 312th Evac Hospital.

 

Delta Company
October 24, 1968

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown with the 68 and the 40 element at BS905208. At 1555hrs Delta Company 68 and the 40 element is at BS900207. Delta Company at 1800hrs PFC. WILLIE ROBERT TUCKER US5102301 drowned was crossing waterway at LZ Charlie Brown in a (rpund) Vietnamese boat with a Vietnamese paddling. The boat turned over and he went under. At this time he had not been found, Flare-ship to report on station to provide light for all personnel continued the search for the body. PFC WILLIE ROBERT TUCKER IS LISTED AS KIA.

 

Echo Company
October 24, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder and 2 squads on LZ Charlie Brown where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission with 1 Platoon from Bravo Company for LZ Dottie.
