Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ O’ Connor. At 1517hrs Delta Company vicinity AT955302 at 0730hrs received a Report on the Chieu Hoi from 383 NVA Battalion states they have been in South Vietnam since late December 1967. They came in the Khe Sanh area, then they turned east till they were near Hue, then they slowly made their way south. He knew none of the provinces, Districts or hamlets through which they passed. He says his unit is a replacement unit and their unit will be broken down and sent to other units. Only 1 out of 4 had weapons for practicing then used for fighting. He was unable to give us his unit location, but said it was a day’s walk west of where he was picked up and that it was on east side of son thru Bon River. He heard cadre say there are 3 other battalion in the same general area of his Battalion the 156 anti tank Battalion, 154 Suicide Battalion and the 155 unknown Battalion they are well dispersed. At 1630hrs Bravo Company has rejoined the Battalion at LZ O’Connor and the 1 rifle Company that we here OPCON to the Bravo Company 3-21 Infantry was extracted. Leaving only Bravo Company 2-1 Infantry still OPCON to the 1-20 Infantry. Bravo Company will conduct their Search and Destroy Operations west of Fire Support Base and south of river. Alpha Company, Recon Platoon and Bravo Company 2-1 Infantry will Search and Destroy operations northwest AT8925 to AT8826, at 1010hrs Bravo Company reports 2-1 Infantry at BS937260 heard noise in bushes and set up a ambush and 1 VC came out the bushes and evaded results 1 VC KIA evading. Delta Company will leave 1 Platoon on LZ O’Connor for Security and will Search and Destroy Operation south of LZ and secure a PZ for Bravo2-1 Infantry for their extraction.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
March 24, 1968
Alpha Company, Recon Platoon and Bravo 2-1 Infantry will Search and Destroy operations in Northwest direction from AT8925 to AT8826. At 1345hrs Alpha Company reports their Combat Assault is completed with LZ cold.
Bravo Company
March 24, 1968
Troop C 1-1 Cav & 1 Platoon Bravo Company 1-20 Infantry
2 Platoons Bravo Company 1-20 Infantry secures Hawk Hill to be extracted to
rejoin 1-20 Infantry, Bravo Company 1-20 Infantry from BT228464 continues Search
& Destroy in Extraction Area. Total Casualties for Bravo Company and Delta
Company 1-20 Infantry with 4 days with 1-1 Calvary was 1 KHA, 10 WHA.
Bravo Company is moved from the 1-1 Cav and OPCON Area of Operation Extension
(North of Thang Binh) to Fire Support Base O’Connor (AT933243) returning to
control of 1-20 Infantry closing at 1630hrs.
Charlie Company
March 24, 1968
At 0935hrs Charlie Company reports their location at BS705900 and received small arms fire results was 1 US WHA Dust Off has been called at this time, SP4 James H. Emerson. At 1215hrs Charlie Company Searching Loc Son village found some VC documents and evidence that people had been living there. Requested permission from District Chief to burn village, are burning it now. At 1735hrs Charlie Company found bag with assorted tools at BS689889 and moved into their Night Defense Position at BS688888 by 1850hrs. SP4 James H Emerson attached to 2nd Surgical Hospital Chu Lai.
Delta Company

Delta Company has the Security Mission for LZ O’Connor and continued their Search and Destroy operations to the Northwest and Northeast of the LZ AT918235 to AT905244 to AT912267.
Echo Company
March 24, 1968
Echo Company and 4.2 platoon where now located on LZ O’Connor and set up to provide direct support to the Battalion. Alpha Company, Recon Platoon and Bravo 2-1 Infantry will Search and Destroy operations in Northwest direction from AT8925 to AT8826.
