Headquarters and Headquarter Company
January 24, 1971

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0630hrs Weather, Partly cloudy, temperature 70 to 79, humidity 70 to 90%, winds southeast 0-15 knots, outlook, increasing cloudiness through Sunday. At 0925hrs S-4 Dolphin 767 is on station for re supply. At 1130hrs S-4 Dolphin 767 is breaking station. At 1300hrs S-4 Dolphin 767 is on station for resupply. At 1513hrs S-4 Dolphin 676 is breaking station at this time. Legend: 1st Platoon 34-39, 2nd Platoon 04-09, 3rd Platoon 94-99, 4th Platoon 54-59, CO-16.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
January 24, 1971

Alpha Company has the Security Mission on LZ Liz. At 0804hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon checked are of Mechanical Ambush detonation with negative finding closed on BS715436. At 1025hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon providing Security for TMF people and to check out string 63 vicinity BS716436. At 1050hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon finished mission with TMF vicinity BS716436 and moving to 2nd String. At 1105hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon with TMF closed on BS713430. At 1155hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon patrol is moving to BS711412. At 1340hrs Alpha Company the Command Post with 3rd and 4th Platoons to LZ Liz. At 1420hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon patrol closed and 2nd Platoon is moving for LZ Liz and Alpha Company has taken over the Security Mission for LZ Liz.

 

Bravo Company
January 24, 1971

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 2020hrs Bravo Company Command Post 3rd and 4th Platoon BS683583, 3rd Platoon ambush BSBS684583, 1st Platoon BS676577, BS685577, and 2nd Platoon BS676581 and BS677580.

 

Charlie Company
January 24, 1971

Charlie Company used multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 2046hrs the VIP program by Charlie Company 1st Platoon vicinity BS693538 bought 1 60mm round, 1 20mm round, 2 home made Chi Com frag, 2 M-26 hand frag, and paid 2 boxes of C-Rations to 2 Vietnamese children ages 10 and 13, destroyed all rounds in place. At 2200hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon at OP Pax BS693538, thought they had movement in the wire, fired the area up with small arms, negative results.

 

Delta Company
January 24, 1971

At 0655hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon and blocking force moving out for BS739573. At 0820hrs returning from patrol vicinity detained 1 female age 24, wearing blue and black and she warned VC that US troops were in the area. They then spotted 3 VC evading to the east at 250 meters, they had packs, but could not confirm weapons and engaged with small arms fire with negative results, and evac detainee to Mo Duc. At 1025hrs Delta Company Command Post, is moving out for BS697457. At 1600hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 1 in vicinity BS757576. At 1855hrs 2nd Platoon patrol vicinity BS724439 sighted 6-10 VC, half with weapons moving west to east at a distance of 400 meters. They engaged with small arms fire and VC evaded to the East. Swept the area of contact and found blood trails and drag marks. At 1910hrs Delta Company reports their Night locations with Command Post and 3rd Platoon at BS719449, 2nd Platoon location BS712441 and 1st Platoon BS750568.

 

Echo Company
January 24, 1971

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2

Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 1835hrs Recon is moving out for BS756408. At 1925hrs Recon vicinity BS756409, moving to night ambush location has found a booby trap on a trail next to a hedgerow. It was a can of Petna with trip wire and smoke grenade fuse and trip wire. It was disarmed and will be blown at first light. At 1928hrs Recon reports they are in their night location vicinity BS757412. SP4 Alfred F. Thomas (11C20) attached to the 91st Evac Hospital.
