Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0748hrs Helix 34 is on station and is breaking station at 0814hrs. At 0830hrs 1-20 Infantry Combat Assault of Delta Company: 1. Oscar 92 LZ 0845hrs BS743412, LZ Oscar 02 0850hrs at BS721437, 3. LZ Oscar 42 BS721437, 4. Oscar November 52 LZ 0856hrs at BS721437 5. LZ Oscar November 52 LZ 0915hrs at BS721437 Combat Assault is completed. At 0840hrs Primo 6 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 2101hrs MACV Mo Duc vicinity BS766470, Thach Tru people in the Village said they spotted 3 VC/NVA coming toward village, they blew mine, checked the area with negative results, no US confirmed. Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

At 0750hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon vicinity BS713469 had a Mechanical Ambush detonate approximately 300 meters to northwest of ambush location and engaged with M-79 fire, will check area with aid of scout dogs shortly. At 0850hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon checked Mechanical Ambush detonated and found 1 KIA approximately 25 years of age, dressed in khaki with green scarf, CIA 1 AK47, 1 Chi Com pistol belt with ponchos. The park contents 3 Chi Com grenades, 1 uniform, 2 pair of PJ, 1 black, 1 purple, 30 AK 47 rounds, 1 parachute, medical supplies, first aid bandages and anti bacteria soap. Also found 1 pound of polished rice and 1 hammock and 4 ponchos. At 0935hrs Alpha Company reference to last nights Booby Trap, it was believed to be a hand frag in a coke can, with a 4" stake tied to a bush with black nylon trip wire. At 0955hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon patrol at BS701478, 2nd Platoon patrol at BS714468, Command Post 2nd, 4th Platoon Patrol Base BS717466, 1st Platoon BS683487 and the 3rd Platoon BS690500. At 1045hrs Alpha Company vicinity BS689501, 3rd Platoon requested Urgent Dust Off for 4 US who hit booby trap all with multiple frag wounds completed at 1100hrs. Alpha Company 3rd Platoon vicinity BS689501 while moving out of their Night Defense Position tripped a booby trap. Bobby Trap was on shrubs was not on a trail element was breaking a new trail when they tripped it, booby trap was a 105mm round with trip wire, results 4 US WHA with multiple frag wounds to the body. Alpha Company continued to use multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1955hrs Alpha Company Command Post, 2nd, 4th Platoons at BS717464, 1st Platoon at BS705480 and 3rd Platoon at BS693538.

Charlie Company
February 24, 1971
At 0700hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon vicinity BS667578 at OP Wood stock received 18-20 incoming RPG rounds, 5 inside perimeter, from the northwest and east, engaged the area with 50 Cal, 60mm and small arms fire. At this time IOS sighted approximately 15 VC/NVA, vicinity BS685574 moving to south, engaged with 4.2, 81mm and Artillery 105mm, results unknown damage, 1 bunker with light damage, negative casualties. Wrap up of Spot contact 2nd Platoon checking area of suspected enemy location found the following grid BS669578 found where 82mm RR (T-21) had been and also found trail section BK-881 heat cartridge. At BS672577 found where 82mm base plate had been settled. At BS665578 found 1 booby trap can of Petna with a trip wire release, placed across a trail, chest high blew it in place. OP Wood stock received 20 82mm RR rifle rounds, 3 RPG rounds and 3 82mm mortar rounds with one of them being a dud and blew it in place. The RPG fire came from the same location as the 82RR position. At 0730hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon patrol closed on BS675540 and 3rd Platoon ambush closed vicinity at BS608562. At 0855hrs Charlie Company EOD and 1st Platoon moving out to blow 250 pounds bomb. At 1442hrs Charlie Company vicinity BS667578, 2nd Platoon OP Wood Stock received 5 rounds of 82mm mortar from location above grid, engaged the area with artillery. At 1440hrs Warlord 7 has come on station to Visual Recon the suspected location. At 1510hrs Warlord 7 has broken station due to bad weather, with negative findings. Engage with artillery and was then continued and the 2nd Platoon will search the area ASAP. At 1805hrs Warlord 7 located vicinity Wood stock conducting a last light visual Recon received 5 rounds 51caliber fire, vicinity BS654564. The round hit a rocket pod and exploded on in pact. The cobra landed at OP Wood stock, they started to receive 51cal fire. As the cobra left, the 2nd cobra took 1 hit at the same grid, both ships departed for Chu Lai. At 1930hrs Charlie Company vicinity BS673572 received 6 unknown type of incoming rounds. The hit out outside perimeter but did not detonated, will check in morning fire came from BS681572.
Delta Company

At 0830hrs Delta Company conducts Combat Assault and completed it at 0915hrs. At BS748432 immediately after the 3rd Platoon was pick up Gun ship Stinger 88 spotted 3 VC/NVA hiding in tree line vicinity BS743421, receiving approval to engage, Stinger 88 engaged the area with mimi Guns and rockets. In the mean time 3rd Platoon was inserted into the preplanned LZ. The 1st Platoon, 14 men reacted to sighting and were inserted at BS743421 at 0853hrs. The lift ships then returned to PZ and finished Combat Assault. Delta Company 1st Platoon results of Stringer 88 3 VC/NVA KIZ dressed in all blue with 75 pounds of medical supplies, clothing food, blasting caps, time fuse, and 1 written document. At 1036hrs Delta Company vicinity BS743422, 1st Platoon patrol found 100 pounds of grain in 5 plastic bags and 150 pounds of unpolished rice in 7 plastic bags, buried 6 to 10" deep outside of hooch. Also concealed in false ceiling 8’ by 8’ 1 feet deep found 3 M-60 ammo cans with parachutes, cut into strips, possible for use as bandages. Also found buried medical supplies and a small bottle of pills, also a small vial with unknown contends. Detained 1 female age 33 to 35 years of age dressed in black and purple, no ID suspected VC to be back hauled to Duc Pho. At 1145hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon is moving to BS690453 and 2nd Platoon is moving to BS720423. At 1410hrs 3rd Platoon moving to BS687453 and the 2nd Platoon closed on BS706458. At 1850hrs Delta Company changes 1st Platoon is at BS712434, 2nd Platoon Command Post and 4th Platoon in their Night Defense Position at BS701452 with 3rd Platoon at BS689452.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 1740hrs Recon Platoon is moving out for BS738422.
