Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. 1-20 Infantry LZ Liz received small arms fire and 4 rockets believed to be B-40, all rounds were directed at the Artillery, negative casualties or damage, rocket position picked up by radar at BS75554355, fired artillery with unknown results. At 0450hrs LZ Liz received 1 more B-40 rocket, with result of 2 US WIA evac at 0515hrs. At 0810hrs Delta Company 19th Engineer at 0754hrs vicinity BS857319 mine sweep team north found bridge 106 blown on southwest corner still passable, 3 stringer blown and caps damages, use by pass. At 0754hrs Alpha Company 19th Engineer vicinity Bs767469 blown culvert, 124 Bridge Blown 100% destroyed road still open one way on east side 2 weeks to repair. At 0950hrs 1-20 Infantry Bravo Company 3-1 Infantry reports their location 44 at BS831359, 74 at BS838382, 14 at BS826367. At 1030hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC Recap of attack on LZ Liz DATE/TIME 240100hrs 2 VC spotted in west perimeter engaged with small arms fire with negative results at 240300hrs observed 15 VC to northeast engaged with small arms fire negative results. At 240450hrs received 82mm mortar rounds from vicinity BS755433, results 5 WHA, received 2 rounds of 60mm mortar rounds VHF antenna knocked out. At 240500hrs took 5 rockets, two hit artillery position with negative damage and 3 went over the hill, and had movement to the front of bunker 13, engaged with small arms unknown results. At 1159hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC Bravo Company 3-1 Infantry vicinity BS843384 received small arms fire with negative casualties, Command and control Helicopter conducted a Visual Recon of area with negative assessment. 1-20 Infantry reports Charlie Company 3-1 Infantry location at BS797349. At 1330hrs 1-20 Infantry Bravo Company 3-1 at 1325hrs vicinity BS797349 observed 3 possible with weapons, engaged with mortar and small arms fire results unknown. Charlie Company SRRP at BS779395 received machine gun fire with negative casualties, return fire with negative results. 1-20 Infantry insert Ajax at 1509hrs into grid BS902217. At 1700hrs Quang Ngai Air strip 4 WHA and 1 from 11th Bridge unit unknown. At 1830hrs Charlie Company 3-1 Infantry at BS803346 observed 4 VC engaged hit 1 and found blood trails, all had carbines.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1010hrs E Troop in the vicinity BS895269 PF from SA Huynh on 2 ½ ton truck (civilian) heading north on Highway 1 hit 25-30 pound pressure type mine in middle of road results 5 PF KIA with 3 PF WIA. Results 2 EVAC to Duc Pho by lambretta, 1 WIA treated by E Troop medic and released. At 1125hrs at BS825342 4 tracks heading south on highway 1 hit a command detonate mine 35 pounds charge negative dame 1 US WHA (M) picked up 1 VCS (35 year old male) with some documents will evac to LZ Bronco. At 1630hrs Alpha Company 19th engineer report at BS788417 a 5 ton truck received 7 rounds of sniper fire, results 2 US WIA (M) and APC on station returned fire with negative results.

 

Alpha Company
January 24, 1969

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown with 14 on Bridge 94 and 19 on Bridge 95. At 1700hrs Alpha Company SRRP Ajax is inserted PZ 1505hrs and LZ at 1509hrs to vicinity BS902217. At 1625hrs LZ Charlie Brown Priority Dust Off for US with burns on left arm, injured on KP, Bott Carl C E-4, Dust Off completed at 1630hrs. At 1800hrs Alpha Company moved into their night locations with 44 on Bridge 94 and 45 on Bridge 95 with 78 at BS923225 and 18 at BS936228.

 

Bravo Company
February 24, 1969

At 0330hrs LZ Liz received small arms fire and 4 rockets believed to be B-40’s, all rounds were directed at the Artillery, negative casualties or damage. Rocket position picked up by radar was from BS75554355 fired Artillery with unknown results and at 0450hrs received 1 more round B-40 rocket results 2 US WHA, and evac, 0515hrs. Bravo Company continued with their Security Mission for LZ Liz with 17 on Bridge 124. At 0830hrs Bravo Company detained a VC suspect for questioning and evac to LZ Liz. At 1030hrs 1-20 TOC Recap of attack on LZ Liz DATE/TIME 240100hrs 52 VC spotted in west perimeter engaged with small arms fire with negative results. At 240450hrs received 8 rounds 82mm mortar. At 240300hrs observed 15 VC to northeast engaged with small arms fire with negative results. At 1240hrs Bravo Company at BS780430 detained 1 VC suspect for questioning. At 1130hrs Bravo Company at BS758438 detained 1 VC suspect hiding in a spider hole. At 1700hrs 1-20 Infantry inserted Ajax at BS902217, with other SRRP Detroit BS642535.

 

Charlie Company
February 24, 1969

Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder. At 1401hrs Charlie Company at BS855329 engaged 1 NVA with mortars with results 1 NVA KIA, and at 1430hrs Charlie Company 15 at BS891310 detained 3 VC suspects for questioning. At 1700hrs 1-20 Infantry inserted Ajax at BS902217, with other SRRP Detroit BS642535. At 1800hrs Charlie Company 15 is set up at BS566324. At 1945hrs Charlie Company report on Bridge 106 pick and shovel people observed 15 VC.

 

Delta Company
February 24, 1969

Delta Company OPCON to 4-21 Infantry continued their Security Mission for LZ Dragon. At 1200hrs E Troop has closed on LZ Dragon. At 2215hrs Delta Company at BS642593 spotted boat moving west on river and called in Artillery with negative results.

 

Echo Company
February 24, 1969

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Charlie Brown, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz.
