Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0405hrs Brigade there will be a convoy 24 September 1970 from Qui Nhon, will get time later this morning. At 1210hrs Primo 3 picked up 1 Vietnamese at BS833438, just walked out of a wood line alone had a large pair of pants and a hat that he tried to hide. Picked him up, pants had documents in pocket. At 1450hrs Rice Knights birds is on station, at 1500hrs departed LZ Liz to Companies Operation underway. At 1510hrs Rice knights is at BS711552, 1 male 21 blue pants, unknown ID, at BS688583 4 male detainees 14 to 18 years of age for at total of 26 detainees. Legend: 1st Platoon 54-59, 2nd Platoon 84-89, 3rd Platoon 34-39, 4th Platoon 04-09 and CO 12.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0100hrs DOC Control all 4 US dusted off at 1935hrs Recon Platoon released from 23rd Medical and returned to the 1-20 Infantry Rear.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company at 0945hrs Charlie Company Patrol 85 at BS648578 found 5 Chi Com and 100 AK 47 rounds in a plastic bag, in good condition all items destroyed. We are patrolling Area of Operation today.
Bravo Company
September 23, 1970
At 0702hrs Bravo Company E-18 at BS753619 engaged 5 enemy with weapons, we engaged with small arms fire and enemy evaded to the west with E-18 trying to maintain contact. At 0710hrs Bravo Company 54 element at BS735625 conducting preplanned sweep with 34 element in blocking position encountered 3 VC sleeping, captured 1 M-1 carbine, 20 rounds of ammo, 2 35 and 1 18 all with no ID and continued the sweep. At 0935hrs Bravo Company 54 element is at BS735625 and request routine Dust Off of US with frag wounds to the ear and foot, received when VC threw a Chi Com out of spider hole, completed at 0947hrs. At 0930hrs Bravo Company and M-18 uncovered 800 to 1000 pounds of rice unpolished, locally grown, this year crop, it had been in the cache for about a week, found in hole covered with plastic. At 1015hrs Bravo Company 37 and 34 elements received a heavy volume of fire from 2 locations to their southeast, vicinity BS725610 request gun ships on station, first put artillery in and it was fired by Helix worked out. The 34 element swept the area until they encountered numerous land mines and discontinued the sweep. Total from of Bravo Elements 69 and 34 operations 8 VC CIA, 1VC KIA, 2VC WIA, 2AK47 CIA, M-16 CIA, M-1 Carbine CIA, C Chi Com grenades CIA, Documents, clothing, small amount of rice. At 1200hrs Bravo Company the 34 element is at BS713584 Routine Dust Off requested US Bullet lodges in wrist, resulting from contact earlier this morning Dust Off cancelled and will be evac on back haul. Bravo Company reports 1LT James P. Ellis treated and released in field with frag wound right arms and right foot, SGT Dale J. Reike treated and released from B 23 Medical with frag wound right foot and left ear, PFC Kelly B. Westover treated and released from field with frag wound to right arm and neck, PFC George E. Bowden treated and released field with frag wound right arms and right hand, also CPT Francis E. Powers treated and released at Battalion Aid with frag wound to right arm.
Charlie Company

At 2032hrs Charlie Company 54 element is in their Night Defense Position at BS742416, all mechanical ambushes out and Patrolling in their Area of Operation today.
Delta Company
September 23, 1970
At 0735hrs Delta Company 34 and 54 elements is at BS739573 and 84, 12 and 04 is at BS754558. At 1530hrs Delta Company 54 at BS742573 while digging for rice found 2 claymores, 8 blasting caps and 2 wires, 1 was US, and locally made. At 1620hrs Delta Company 34 in Day Logger took sniper fire at BS742565, they sent Delta Company 35 to check it out. They encounter and engaged 2 personnel who were dressed in green, 1 was wounded the found blood trail, until they lost it in thick brush. Delta Company 35 found 1 flashlight and green plastic sheets. Delta Company 12 had a small wooden replica of an M-16 given to them precise, it will be back hauled. At 1800hrs Delta Company 12 link up with the PF. At 2000hrs Delta Company 34 element in location BS743567, the 54 element at BS739578, 84, 04, and 12 elements is in location at BS756568. SP4 Charles S. Fine sick was attached to the 91st Evac Hospital.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for (1-20 Infantry) TASK FORCE HONIJYO. At 0100hrs DOC Control all 4 US dusted off at 1935hrs Recon Platoon, released from 23rd Medical and returned, to the 1-20 Infantry Rear. At 1845hrs Recon Platoon reports their Night Defense Position at BS678575 and closed at 1935hrs. .
