Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters reports their located at LZ Liz and will continue to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1150hrs 1-20 Infantry, while inserting the 1st lift of 103rd RF Company vicinity BS775571, AMC ship spotted 2 VC with weapons evading to the west. The enemy dropped their weapons in the brush and then returned to the east. He engaged with result 1 VC KIA. Recon Platoon moved north to investigate the contact area and search for the enemy KIA, body was recovered with documents. Guided by the AMC ship the 103rd RF pursued and made contact with the enemy. The 103rd assaulted the enemy position and captured 1 VC WIA (by his own hand frag). The 103rd RF Company has also detained 34 other males and evac to Mo Duc, the WIA passed away. At 1159hrs 1-20 Infantry Combat Assault is completed 1: PZ 1025 103 RF LZ, 2: PZ 1040 Recon LZ, 3: PZ 1055 Alpha 12, 4: PZ 1007 Alpha 62 LZ, 5: PZ 1100 Alpha 82 LZ, 6: PZ 1112 Alpha 44 LZ and 7: PZ 1120 Commandos LZ Completed at 1125hrs Battalion Commander returned to LZ Liz and AMC broke station. At 1420hrs 1-20 Infantry MACV Ship dropped off 2 VC from C-19 picked up earlier by the 103rd RF. The 2 detainees were dropped off at the Alpha Company Command Post location. Their objective was to find 2 tunnels near their point of pick up vicinity BS776574 (see Alpha Company). At 1500hrs Delta 1-20 Infantry Primo 3 on station for Command and Control Helicopter and breaking station at 1531hrs for total of 45 minutes. At 1523hrs Helix 31 on station and sent to Delta Company and had to break station at 1536hrs due to low ceiling and bad weather. At 1519hrs Q Company IOS spotted 3 personnel with weapons vicinity BS689579, they walked into a hootch in a hamlet. Delta Company sent 2 elements of the 1st Platoon to check it out. At 1550hrs Q Company and Delta Company 1st Platoon has 2 elements moving to check out the IOS sighting vicinity BS689579. At 1608hrs 1-20 Infantry, A read out form our S-2 and MACV and Mo Duc on 7 of the extracted personnel. 1 Hamlet Security Chief (Dam Thuy Nam), 2 Member of C-19, 1 farmers Association, Assistant leader, 1 Framers Association member, 1 VC teacher, and 1 Tax Collector (Duc Loung). At 1625hrs MACV Mo Duc S-2 reports 12 more position and job unknown makes a total of 15 unidentified. At 1925hrs Q Company purchased the following ordinance from 3 Vietnamese children, 1 82mm mortar round, 2 105 rounds, 1 dud M-72 Law, 1 RPG round 2 months old and paid 3 meals of C Rations. At 2000hrs Recon on Dragon prior to their Combat Assault purchased 3 M-79 rounds, 1 60mm round, 1 M-26 hand frag, paid 4 cans of C Rations. At 2010hrs 1-20 Infantry S-2 paid 1,000 Piasters for information to the following Nguyen Thanh Hai, Huynh Pham, Nguyen Van Xuan. This information resulting in 1 VC KIA, A Assistant Village Chief, CIA Pho Hghia Duc Pho Quand Ngai, 1 Hamlet Medic CIA (Van LY, Pho Nghia), Duc Pho Quang Nagi further information is expected from CIA. Payment to above individuals was with held until confirmation of status of detainees. Legend: 1st Platoon 12-18, 2nd Platoon 62-68, 3rd Platoon 82-88, 4th Platoon 32-38 and CO 44.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. SP4 James D. Dever was attached to 27th Surgical Hospital. And PFC Donald Jones was attached to 91st Evac Hospital Medic.
Alpha Company

At 0630hrs Alpha Company 1st and 2nd Platoon moving out to check out contact area vicinity BS765612 and BS760599. Alpha Company 3rd Platoon has two elements moving out to sweep vicinity BS765612 at this time. At 0805hrs 2nd Platoon vicinity BS757599 found 1,000 pounds of rice, locally grown unpolished and we are detaining 2 personnel, 1 male age 67, negative ID wearing red and white and 1 female age 45 searing red and white negative ID. These people were detained as they were burying the rice, they were evacuated to Mo Duc at 1238hrs. At 1230hrs 1-20 Infantry Combat Assault for Recon, 103 RF, and Alpha Company 1st PZ at 1040hrs and last LZ was at 1125hrs. Alpha Company upon landing in their LZ vicinity BS772564, the 1st Platoon of Alpha Company detained 2 males and 8 females, 2nd Platoon on their LZ BS768586 detained 5 males. The Mo Duc S-2 team was inserted to screen those that are VCI/ VC/VCS will be evacuated to Mo Duc on the re supply. At 1340hrs (READ BACK) vicinity BS768583 they found 2 holes they found 3 females, 1 male and 1male KIA names and ages follows. I male KIA THOI, he was a hamlet production chief, Male Bui DAO, age 50 wearing black pajamas. Female Nguyen Thi Loan age 16 wearing green and black. Female Tran THI Tien age 15 wearing blue and black, female Suynit Thi BA age 20 wearing black also in this hole they found 1 AK47. In the second hole the 1st Platoon found 3 males and 1 male was KIA, and 2 CIA. At 1515hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon had 2 VC from C-19 led them to tunnel BS758583, we fired small arms fire into the tunnel and then threw hand frag into the tunnel. The entered the tunnel and found 2 VC KIA, 1 AK-47, Documents. They are continuing to search the area. At 1546hrs Alpha Company 1st Platoon element with 2 C-19 detainees, found arrow and crossbow in a thicket with a charge underneath it vicinity BS770580. We destroyed it and had a secondary explosion moved in and found wire and scrap metal. Also request a crosscheck of following personnel, The Kit Carson Scout said all detained in booby trap area and send 3 detained in. At 1708hrs Alpha Company requests US with severe stomach cramp, Name Newton, Completed at 1725hrs. At 1853hrs Alpha Company 4th Platoon spotted 1 Vietnamese moving south of their location approximately 200 meters vicinity BS765599 and is heading south, the personnel has a flashlight, they are continuing to observe the area. They checked with the other elements sat their location and by the time this was completed the personnel spotted had disappeared. I was determined it was too late to reach the area. At 2022hrs Alpha Company 3 Platoon Night Defense Position vicinity BS765583, ambush BS766578, 1st Platoon, Command Post at BS760590, ambush BS762588, 2nd Platoon Night Defense Position BS768583, ambush BS768584 and 4th Platoon BS765599.
Bravo Company

At 0631hrs Bravo Company is moving to their blocking position BS755591 to BS768562. At 1107hrs Bravo Company reported that they had be receiving sporadic sniper fire from BS772571. This was the approximately location Shark 6 investigated and spotted 1 VC evading to east, shark engaged resulting in 1 VC KIA. Recon Platoon moved north to investigate the contact area and search for the enemy KIA, body was recovered with documents. At 1932hrs Bravo Company 1st, 4th and Command Post is at BS766566, 3rd Platoon Night Defense Position is at BS759575 with ambushes at BS762576 and BS762576. The 2nd and 1st Platoons Night Defense Position is at BS757580 with ambushes at BS759582 and BS761580 with the 1st Platoon ambushes at BS765570 and BS767566.

Delta Company

At 0900hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon is moving out for BS658567. At 0945hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon is moving out for BS661568. At 1145hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon while on patrol vicinity BS684574 received 2 warning shots. Checked out the area and found 3 mosquito nets, 1 blanket, some corn and 2 green uniforms. Checked the uniforms thoroughly and found negative unit IS. Kit Carson Scout says these personnel were definitely VC, will extract uniforms on back haul. At 1257hrs Delta Company 3rd Platoon patrol moving out to BS658567. At 1519hrs Q Company IOS spotted 3 personnel with weapons vicinity BS689579, they walked into a hootch in a hamlet. Delta Company sent 2 elements of the 1st Platoon to check it out. At 1625hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon converging on the IOS sighting vicinity BS689599. At 1709hrs Delta Company 2 elements 1st Platoon closed on and searching hamlet at BS689579. At 1746hrs Delta Company requested urgent Dust Off, vicinity BS685575, for 3 US there was 2KHA and 1 WHA. Runge and Zornes KIA, Glynn WIA and Dust Off completed at 1805hrs. At 1840hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon detonated 1 Booby-Trap vicinity BS685575. Booby trap was located on a trail, had a pressure release type fuse. The 4th man in file detonated it. 2nd, 3rd, and 4th men were injured. Believed to have been hand-frag grenade, resulting in 2 US KHA & 1WHA. At 1931hrs Delta Company reports their locations 2nd Platoon in location at BS665656, 1st Platoon at BS682567, 1st Platoon ambush vicinity BS684572, 3rd, 4th Platoons and Command Post at BS664563. CPL ROBERT CARL RUNGE COD MFW to chest AND CPL VERNON GLEN ZORNES COD MFW chest and left leg LISTED AS KHA. Delta Company reports that SP4 Thomas M. Glynn was Treated and Released from Bravo 23 Medical with MFW to left shoulder and right leg and PFC Vernon J. Cain was evac to 91st Evac Hospital unknown possible sick.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 1150hrs 1-20 Infantry, while inserting the 1st lift of 103rd RF Company vicinity BS775571, AMC ship spotted 2 VC with weapons evading to the west. The enemy dropped their weapons in the brush and then returned to the east. He engaged with result 1 VC KIA. Recon Platoon moved north to investigate the contact area and search for the enemy KIA, body was recovered with documents. At 1256hrs Recon found the KIA from the Alpha Company action vicinity BS775568 wearing black PJ with OD shirt and OD cut off underneath. Found a wallet and notebook, contained names and pictures of him in a OD uniform, and 1 with him and a girl. Negative identification on any of the clothing, both clothing and documents will be back hauled on resupply. At 1952hrs Recon 1st squad BS773568, 2nd squad BS773568 and 3rd squad is at BS776565. At 2000hrs Recon on Dragon prior to their Combat Assault purchased 3 M-79 rounds, 1 60mm round, 1 M-26 hand frag and paid 4 cans of C Rations.
