Headquarters and Headquarter Company
March 23, 1968
Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ O’Connor with new call sign Cougar. At 1010hrs Bravo Company 2-1 Infantry OPCON to 1-20 Infantry at AT937260 set up an ambush and observed 1 man evading from bushes engaged with small arms fire with results 1 VC KIA. At 1217hrs Alpha Company with 118 Packs moved to LZ O’Connor and at 1535hrs Delta Company joint the Battalion at LZ O’ Connor. Battalion still has Bravo and Delta 2-1 Infantry OPCON. Artillery elements located on LZ O’ Connor, is a mix 3-82 Artillery and D 1-14 Artillery.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
March 23, 1968
At 1217hrs Alpha Company with 118 PAX move form LZ Colt to LZ O’Connor with Cougar the new Call sign for the 1-20 Infantry Battalion completed lift at 1345hrs. Alpha Company moved out to join Recon and Bravo Company 2-1 Infantry in their Search and Destroy operation in their Area of Operation. Delta Company 2-1 Infantry remains OPCON to the 1-20 Infantry.
Bravo Company
March 23, 1968
Troop C & 1 Platoon Bravo Company 1-20 continued their OPCON to 1-1 Cav with 2 Platoons of Bravo Company with the Security Mission for 1-1 Cav Hawk Hill.
Charlie Company
March 23, 1968
At 1020hrs Charlie Company at BS656893 found booby trap Bouncing Betty mine, destroyed. At 1600hrs Charlie Company is at their Night Defense Position at BS647904 with ambushes at BS644918 and BS651916.
Delta Company
March 23, 1968
Extracted Delta Company 1-20 Infantry, next stop LZ O’Connor working for the 1-20 Infantry which is now OPCON to 196th Infantry Brigade completed move at 1435hrs from BT225475 PAX 131. Delta Company took over Security Mission for LZ O’Connor (AT933243) leaving Delta Company 2nd Platoon on LZ O’ Connor. Delta Company (-) moving off in a Northwest direction into the valley on Search and Destroy mission and at LZ O’Connor the new forward Tactical Operations Command Center of the 1st Battalion at 1800hrs Delta Company one platoon and Command Post for LZ Security Mission.
Echo Company
March 23, 1968
Echo Company and 4.2 platoon where now located on LZ O’Connor and set up to provide direct support to the Battalion. Recon continued to carry out the security mission for LZ O’Connor. At 1245hrs Alpha Company arrives at LZ O’Connor and start conduct Search and Clear Operations in their new Area of Operations with their new Call Sign Cougar.
