Forward Area 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder as the Battalion returns to Control of the 11th Light Infantry Brigade Control in the Duc Pho Area of Operation. 1-20 Infantry reports Delta Company 4-21 Infantry found 105mm Dud, and destroyed in place. At 0833hrs Bravo Company 19 Engineers at BS748508 people showed our northern mine sweep approximate location of batteries and smoke grenades, approximately 150 meters western side of the road, result 10 PRC 25 Batteries CIA and 14 smoke grenades CIA. At 1115hrs 1-20 Infantry Command and Control helicopter picked up man from Delta Company 4-21 Infantry possible malaria case. At 1300hrs MACV reports from LT Swaney say they had two similar reports regarding the following location at BS744412, BS742408 and BS747407 approximately 14 VC in area, with weapons, 1 Bar, 4 carbines, 1 M-4 and 4 .36 caliber rifles and 6 tunnels with explosives. MACV says PRU can lead US troops to exact location call 1-20 infantry to coordinate with this report. At 1600hrs Delta Company 4-21 Infantry at BS689525 and BS684521 found 15 spider holes, 8 of which had covers, had not been used in quite some time, will destroy. At 1830hrs Delta 1-52 Infantry reports their location at LZ Liz with 1st Platoon and Command Post with the 20 ambush at BS782418 and the 30 ambush at BS748418. At 1830hrs 4-21 Infantry at LZ Dragon with 1st Platoon ambush at BS798518 and BS683510. At 1900hrs Delta Company requested Dust Off for 1 US with high fever, Dust Off completed at 1900hrs. At 2325hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC PF in village at base of LZ Thunder reports PF shot in left leg, by sniper fire, is real serious condition. The PF are bringing the Combat Youth to LZ Thunder perimeter and Dust Off is in progress.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0043hrs 81mm Mortars on Montezuma Mountain, firing H & I Targets, Mortar Round target at BS796376 Def 58802 range 2300 meters, one short round WP landed in 6 Support Hospital Area with negative damage and negative casualties due to old ammo lot #MA55-1 & on 53-8. Don’t know which one of the two was being fired at time of short round. At 0240hrs Flare ship 174 Aviation 0130hrs to 2000hrs received 15-20 rounds small arms fire from scattered location in grid BS8243, negative hits, Artillery will fire H & I into grid at 0250hrs. At 0415hrs "Yellow Alert", 1 unknown type round hit a barge down at the sand ramp, Condition "Green " goes into effect at 0425hrs. At 1825hrs Sector C reported bunker #27 setting off trip flares while removing from ammo box. Flare set ammo box on fire exploding M-79 and 1-16 rounds. Damage Sandbags in corner of bunker burned and bags will need replacing.
Alpha Company

Bravo Company
June 23, 1968
At 0806hrs Bravo Company at BS705415 spotted 6-8 Vietnamese about 1000 meters away, can’t determine uniforms or weapons. They are keeping him under observation, going to call artillery on them and check them out. At 1329hrs Bravo Company at BS798499 engaged 3 VC evading results 3 VC KIA, CIA 2 in serious condition, dressed in black, negative weapons or packs, no ID, Dust Off called and completed. At 1830hrs Bravo Company moved to their Night Defense Position at BS799509 with ambushes at 10 BS791501 and 30 BS742402.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company at 1630hrs at BS892329 found a hootch with a life like dummy. It was dressed in an NVA Uniform has GI socks and HO Chi Minh sandals and also found 10 pounds of rice destroyed. Charlie Company has move into their Night Defense Position with ambushes at 10 BS806326, 20 BS804319, and 30 BS803327.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder. At 1330hrs Delta Company at BS900303 found 105mm dud destroyed in place. At 1345hrs Delta Company at BS682521 found 1 well constructed bunker 3’ X 3’ also tunnel leading into bunker. Also found 3 spider holes all destroyed. At 1820hrs Delta Company at LZ Thunder with 30 ambushes at BS845293 and BS861299. At 2022hrs Delta Company 12 at BS823328 has received 1 burst of automatic weapons fire and 2 60mm 100-150 meters from their location, have not been able to determine the direction. At 2325hrs 1-20 Infantry TOC reports PF in village at base of LZ Thunder reports 1 PF shot in leg by sniper fire, in real serious condition, the PF bringing the combat Youth to Thunder perimeter for Dust Off is in progress and Delta Company is ready.
Echo Company
June 23, 1968
Echo Company is located at LZ Thunder where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Thunder. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Thunder where they continue to provide direct fire support for the Battalion. At 1610hrs Recon Platoon at BS933233 found the remains of a campfire, also had a lot of footprints. At 1830hrs Recon Platoon reports their position at Charlie Brown. At 2317hrs Recon at Charlie Brown has picked up movement at BS933228, will fire artillery at this time.
