Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0045hrs 1-20 Infantry Mo Duc was given a summary of Area of Operations events for 21 and 22 July. At 0155hrs Radar sighted 25 to 30 personnel moving east at BS725590 with negative clearance from MACV due to the proximately of a friendly Ville, Bravo Company was informed. At 0425hrs Radar sighted 1 to 5 stationary personnel at BS777504 with negative clearance and Recon Platoon was informed. At 1445hrs Bravo Company and the 26 Engineer at 0620hrs reports a mine, was hit by a dossier with negative damage or casualties at BS741681. At 1000hrs TMF at 0938hrs String 76 was activated by an undetermined number and fire on at 0951hrs with 8 HE of 105 Artillery rounds, a Visual Recon team was not available. At 1025hrs another 5 pound explosive was hit with negative damage or casualties at BS739684 (1’ X 2’ crater), and a flare tube with 4 to 10 pounds of C-4 with a trip wire at BS743687 (When blown in place it made a crater 5" X 2’). At 1517hrs Bravo Company and the 26 Engineer we found 1 M-1 carbine in poor condition at BS743689. It is too rusty to read the serial number and the engineer going to keep it. At 1716hrs the S-5 reports, PSYOPS in the 1-20 Infantry were canceled due to a priority on another mission. Organic Brigade PSYOPS were conducted last at the following grids: BS7467 and BS7559 with targets of C 65 and C 19 with 500 special leaflets dropped at BS7467 target at C 65. Along with 3-1 Infantry the 1-20 Infantry co sponsor a school project for a church, the Vietnamese church is located at BS767471, Vehicles from both battalions will departed for Quang Ngai to begin hauling sand for the cement to be used in instruction of the school. Materials to be used will be provided by both battalions to assist in the school project. At 1735hrs 26 Engineer land clearing report a total of 75 acres (400 X 700) was cleared in the area BS738684, BS743689, BS744686 and BS742686. Also 14 bunkers, 3 booby traps and 1 155mm Artillery round were found and destroyed. We have 8 D7 operational with 3 D7 deadline (2 with tracks off and 1 with a bent fan blade) also 1 CEV is operational with 1 AC operational and 1 M548 operational.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. LEGEND: 1st Platoon 24-29, 2nd Platoon 34-39, 3rd Platoon 54-59, 4th Platoon 14-19, CO 20.
Alpha Company

At 1155hrs Alpha Company the Lift from 4-3 Infantry is completed Alpha Company is now again in 1-20 Infantry Area of Operation. At 1500hrs Alpha Company the 34 element is moving to BS720612 and at 1510hrs the 23 element is moving to BS725608. At 1530hrs Alpha Company the 54 element is moving to BS733656. At 1720hrs Alpha Company at BS727610 the 24 element had detainee one Vietnamese Female with white top and black bottom and not ID She said there were 5 VC 2 AK47 and 2 M-16 in the Ville, turning her over to Military Intelligence. At 2109hrs Alpha Company elements Locations is 54 at BS719618, 24 at BS723607, 34 at BS724610 and 36 at BS722610.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their joint Operations with PF and RF units on their Hamlet Pacification and security of Highway 1. At 0555hrs Bravo Company reports block element is moving into their location with the 20 element moving to BS736624. At 0710hrs Bravo Company 20A element detained one Vietnamese female, 45, dressed in black, who was walking north at BS750629, she had no ID was questioned and released by interpreter. At 0847hrs Bravo Company the downed LOH has been extracted. At 0911hrs Bravo Company the 20 element found 4 Chi Com Hand fag and 1 pistol belt, all were destroyed in place. At 0958hrs Bravo Company 20 found a M-79 in good condition was found near down LOH, and round a US Pistol belt with a Chi Com grenade, M-79 belong to LOH Crew. At 1445hrs Late Spot Bravo Company reports and the Engineer at 0620hrs a mine was hit by a dossier with results negative damage or casualties at grid BS741684. At 1025hrs a 5 pound explosive was hit with negative damage or casualties at BS739684 (1’ X 2’ crater), and a flare tube with 4 to 10 pounds of C4 with a trip wire at BS743687 (5’ X 2’ crater) and all blown in place. At 1517hrs Bravo Company and the Engineer we found 1 M-1 Carbine in poor condition at BS743689, it is too rusty to read the serial number and the Engineer going to keep it. At 1914hrs Bravo Company an Urgent Dust Off for a ARVN who was hit in the head by a rock at BS748661, 2 PF got in a fight with one turning his back and other hit him with a rock he is from the 143 PF Platoon, completed by 1920hrs.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz along with the Access Road. Charlie Company requested a Dust Off for 4 Vietnamese civilians with badly cut faces due to a mortar incident at BS777445 completed at 1844hrs.
Delta Company
July 23, 1970
At 0650hrs Delta Company the 37 element is moving to BS746574, the 36 element is moving to BS761577, the 56 element is moving to BS754558, the 57 element is at checkpoint 2 at BS767565 and the 26 element closed with negative findings in the area of contact at BS747583. At 0656hrs Delta Company 56 element is at checkpoint 2 at BS753552, the 36 element’s day ambush is at BS761577 and the 37 element’s day ambush is at BS746574. At 0745hrs Delta Company 54 element are in our Day Logger at BS756566. At 1815hrs Delta Company 56 element took sniper fire at grid BS753558, 10-15 rounds, and returned fire and sweeping the wood line first by fire. We have negative finding in sweeping the area and they went to the south, fire from 2 AK-47. At 1845hrs the 54 element moved into grid BS753558 where the 56 element had contact and saw 2 enemy packs at 400 meters moving south, they engaged with negative finding. We noticed a Ville near the are of contact from which all the people were moving to the west across the rice paddies, there was about 200 villagers carrying work baskets, of all ages, about 800 meters from our location will Mo Duc have any knowledge. At 1945hrs Delta Company the 54 element is moving to the Night Defense Position spotted 3 enemy 200 meters south of the Night Defense Position. We engaged at some distance resulting in one VC KIA, 2 US hand frag and 2 light blue top and bottoms, with no ID and age 25-30. The others evaded in an undermined direction. At 2125hrs Delta Company the 20, 24 and 14 elements are in the Night Defense Position is at BS755576 and the 34 element is in the Night Defense Position is at BS760565 with multiply ambushes out.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 4.2 Platoon reports Fire Mission 1 for a total expended of 5 HE rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 0604hrs Recon Element is sweeping west toward highway 1 and request transportation when the road opens, the pick up grid is at BS762478. At 0725hrs Recon we are in our preplanned pick up location at BS762478. Recon Platoon reports their location on LZ Liz with their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
