Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0121hrs MACV Mo Duc vicinity BS765474, at 0015hrs on January 23 the Duc My village was attacked by an unknown sized VC/NVA element. PSDF at that location received incoming small arms fire and they returned fire. They requested that Artillery be fired to the east of their location and the mission was given to LZ Dragon. PSDF report 1 VC KIA and 1 weapon CIA (unknown type of weapon) rating F-1, also the VC came from the east and evaded to the east. At 0143hrs MACV Mo Duc Requested a Urgent Dust Off for 1Vietnamese female was wounded and the Dust Off was completed at 0159hrs. At 0820hrs Primo 4 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 0925hrs Primo 4 is breaking station at this time. At 0930hrs S-4 Dolphin 359 is on station for re supply. At 1055hrs Helix 37 is on station and sent to BS6755 to BS6550 for scanning of foothills eastern Iron Mountain. At 1150hrs MACV Mo Duc vicinity BS735536, at 2300hrs on 22 January that 9 VC from an unknown unit knocked on the door of a RD group Leader # 54 (Mr. Huynh Tuan). The VC all entered his room and killed him with a pistol shot through the chest. VC then went next door to the home of Huynh Tan (National Police). Took him from his house about 50 years and killed him, also with a pistol. Then the VC departed, they also threw propaganda sheets in English and Vietnamese location Thiet Troung Hamlet. All VC were very young, approximately 14 years old, wearing black tops and shorts, confirmed by US, National Police Field Force and RD cadre. At 1335hrs Q Company Radar personnel bought 1 81mm and 1 M-26 frag from 2 Vietnamese children ages 10 and 11 we paid 2 cans of C Rations and destroyed ordinance in place. At 1752hrs Warlord 7 is on station with last light Visual Recon in Box 54A with negative findings, Warlord broke station at 1805hrs. At 1930hrs TMF at 1910hrs String 314 B, has unknown number of stationary personnel, with metal confirmed and at 1918hrs engaged with 12 HE rounds Artillery 105. At 1913hrs Sting 311B has unknown number of stationary personnel with metal confirmed and engaged at 1919hrs with 8 HE Artillery 105mm. At 1922hrs String 311 B unknown number of stationary personnel with metal confirmed engaged at 1924hrs with 8 HE Artillery 105mm. At 2000hrs Blue Ghost 43 is on station to check out TIMF sightings (Strings 311 and 314), took 2 bursts of fire from BS653564 and broke for fuel and to rearms at 2100hrs. Ghost 43 is back on station at 2125hrs for Box 67 was diverted by Brigade for sighting vicinity BS656550, had negative findings and broke station at 2245hrs.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. Legend: 1st Platoon 34-39, 2nd Platoon 04-09, 3rd Platoon 94-99, 4th Platoon 54-59, CO-16.
Alpha Company

Alpha Company continued to use Patrol Bases, with multiple Patrolling and Saturation Patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0707hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon patrol closed on BS737447 and at 0730hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon in resupply location at BS736429. At 0732hrs 2nd Platoon ambush closed on their location at BS736429. At 0846hrs Alpha Company Command Post with 3rd and 4th Platoons at their resupply location at BS741453. At 1000hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon patrol is at BS736429 with (Colonel Brogan) 1-20 Infantry Commander. At 1201hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon patrol closed on BS741453. At 1705hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon at BS736429 bought 1 155 round from 10 Vietnamese children. Paid 5 cans C Rations and destroyed the rounds in place. At 1738hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon ambush in location at BS712430, BS708427, Command Post with 3rd and 4th Platoons at BS733449 and 3rd Platoon ambush is at BS739453. At 1910hrs Alpha Company BS715436 had 2nd Platoon Mechanical Ambush go off, are checking the area out now. Results false alarm, 2 groups from the 2nd Platoon split. I group set Mechanical Ambush and the other stayed behind, Mechanical Ambush detonated because of a short.
Bravo Company

At 0820hrs Bravo Company is moving out for LZ Liz, and took over Security Mission for LZ Liz today.
Charlie Company
January 23, 1971
At 0744hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon ambush closed on BS693538 and 2nd Platoon ambush closed on BS673572. At 1145hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon Patrol closed on BS673572. At 1351hours Charlie Company 2nd Platoon element at BS687578 received 1 round sniper fire from the northeast at 400 meters with no casualties, attempted to engage the area.
Delta Company

Delta Company set up for saturation patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0737hrs Delta Company Command Post and 3rd Platoon is moving to their Patrol Base at BS698467. At 0745hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon is moving out at checkpoint 2 at BS738569 to BS753568. At 1102hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon closed on BS698467 and the 3rd Platoon patrol is moving to BS697462. At 1355hrs Delta Company 2nd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 2 vicinity BS690463 and the 1st Platoon patrol is at checkpoint1 vicinity BS751581. At 1919hrs Delta Command Post and 3rd Platoon at BS697468, 2nd Platoon at BS697468. 1st Platoon is at OP Frag.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
