Headquarters and Headquarter Company
January 23, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 1120hrs MP patrol at BS838364 observed 2 Vietnamese males inside our perimeter wire. When they were approached they fled. The commo wire was vitrified. At 1425hrs Division G-3 to 11th Brigade S-3 frag order is being prepared which will require Task Force Barker to move tomorrow consisting of 2 rifle companies, Bravo Company 4-3 Infantry will closed on LZ Uptight as of 1420hrs. At 1430hrs 1-20 Infantry at 893318 picked up draft dodger, released to local police at Duc Pho. At 1635hrs SP/4 SP4 Lacroix was top graduate of NCO Class and Command General Americal Division wishes to promote this man to SGT E-5 with permission from Commanding General 11th Brigade. 1-20 Infantry and Commanding General gave permission for this man to be promoted (SP Lacroix is from Charlie Company 1-20 Infantry). At 1750hrs Military Police guard at checkpoint, LZ Bronco received about 3 rounds small arms fire. Rounds landed approximately 50 meters away from Checkpoint. At 1910hrs 1-20 Infantry at BS847326 found 1 leaflet will turn in tomorrow to S-2. Task Force Barker was formed to be committed in Operation Muscatine on 24 January 1968 with Headquarters element from Headquarter 11 Brigade and Alpha Company 3-1 Infantry, Bravo Company 4-3 Infantry and Charlie Company 1-20 Infantry with LTC Frank Barker Commanding.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0840hrs Military Police reports at BS835366 ¾ Ton driving on Beach Road had a round of unknown type drop behind his truck, left a hole about 2' wide and 1' deep. Driver was SP4 Sylvester of Bravo Company 6th Support, round landed off side of road approximately 7 meters about 20 meters from the Bridge going to LZ Bronco.

 

Alpha Company
January 23, 1968

Alpha Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder and used multiple patrolling and night ambushes in their Area of Operation At 0700hrs Alpha Company conducts their Combat Assault 1st LZ 0700hrs and 2nd LZ at 0707hrs. At 0940hrs Alpha Company reports found home made grenade made of C-Rations a cap on both end with wood handle, Battalion request keeping for EOD to check it out at grid BS895312. At 1345hrs Alpha Company reports location near LZ Thunder.

 

Bravo Company
January 23, 1968

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ OD and continued to use multiple patrolling and night ambushes in their Area of Operation. At 1430hrs Bravo Company on their Combat Assault with Military Intelligence team reports picked up draft dodger, released to local police at Duc Pho.

 

Charlie Company
January 23, 1968

Charlie Company continued their Search and Destroy Operations in their Area of Operation and is working in a southern direction toward LZ Bronco and LZ Carentan. Charlie Company is at LZ Carentan as they prepare to move north to join Task Force Barker. Task Force Barker was formed to be committed in Operation Muscatine on 24 January 1968 with Headquarters element from Headquarter 11 Brigade and Alpha Company 3-1 Infantry, Bravo Company 4-3 Infantry and Charlie Company 1-20 Infantry with LTC Frank Barker Commanding.

 

Delta Company
January 23, 1968

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Charlie Brown and conducts patrolling in their Area of Operation.

 

Echo Company
January 23, 1968

Echo Company and 4.2 platoon and radar platoon where located on LZ Thunder to provide direct support to the Battalion. At 1012hrs Recon Platoon found base camp reports negative contact, nothing in camp. At 1012hrs Recon Platoon reports found Base Camp with negative contact or anything found in camp at BS779325.
