Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Thunder and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0110hrs Division reports North Vietnamese Trawler making for Batangan ETA 1 to 2 days Swift Boats on station. At 1800hrs at dark Delta Company will have a patrol coming down for LZ Thunder, will move to Red ball and then circle around LZ Thunder to position at BS864333, request we notify units on bridges and PF will notify when in position. At 1904hrs Tripoli OP reports lights in area asked to check.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0041hrs Duc Pho firing in Town, Bunkers 26, 27 and 28 took rounds and 4 rounds hit the Brigade S-3 tent. At 1945hrs 1-20 Infantry bunkers with a starlight scope had spotted lights in the LZ Carentan area, had OP on Tripoli check it out with negative results.
Alpha Company

At 0940hrs Alpha Company at BS813311 started their Search and Clear operation and at 1050hrs vicinity BS812310 found small tunnel. In which they found, 20 rounds carbine ammo, NVA pin, 3 packs, and helmet, 1 bicycle, some documents sketch map of Binh Son area showing US and ARVN locations will evac to S-2. At 1208hrs Alpha Company at BS813302 found recently used hootch containing 2 bar magazines, 1 M-14 magazines, old US pack containing school book, a pouch containing misc. ammo and cartridges rigged as detonators, gas mask US, hand grenade and 1 radio. At 1410hrs Alpha Company at 812312 reports found 600 rounds 30 caliber ammo, 382 rounds of line 7.62, 317 rounds 7.62 loose ammo, 80 rounds 7.62 Russian ammo, 17 rounds of M-1 ammo and 7 rounds 9mm pistol ammo. Also Alpha Company found 10 rounds loose carbine ammo, 9 full M-16 magazines, 31 rounds 5.56 ammo, 13 M-79 rounds, 1 French type bayonet and 1 M-14 bipod box of 30 caliber link, A-6 type along with 1 made shift spear, had 4’ wooden handle with 2’ metal spearhead. At 2100hrs Alpha Company reports their night locations BS801292, 10 at BS804290 and 20 at BS797296.
Bravo Company
February 23, 1968
At 0630hrs Bravo Company located at BS773366. At 1515hrs and grid BS787377 Bravo Company found 2 tunnels 150meters or longer going back under LZ OD. Bravo Company is checking it out using C/S and seal tunnel with demo. At 2100hrs Bravo Company is at BS765378, with 1st Platoon at BS767400 with ambush at BS764391, 20 at BS769396 with ambush at BS776413 and 30 at BS755381 with ambush at BS743371.
Charlie Company

At 0945hrs Charlie Company reports their location at BS707900. At 1700hrs Charlie Company reports found a 155mm round Bobby trap was destroyed, also detained 2 VCS, 1 was wearing a uniform. At 1800hrs Charlie Company reports 1 VC evading with results 1 VC KIA, had schoolbooks, and 1 US stretcher with him. At 1810hrs Charlie Company received sniper fire, with results 1 US WHA wounded in right shoulder, Dust Off call and completed SP4 Pate not serious also found 1 bouncing Betty mine Booby trap was destroyed. At 1945hrs Charlie Company 3 US WHA sniper fire 1 Both legs #0800, 1 left leg #092, 1 shell shock 065, Dust Off completed at 2015hrs. At 2305hrs Charlie Company is located at BS702919. Charlie Company reports SP4 Mark S. Pate, PFC Dale M. Dunham, PFC Ronald W. Haris, and PFC Anthony Broussard attached to 2nd Surgical Hospital Chu Lai.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Thunder. Delta Company will also run patrolling and their Search and Destroy operations in their Area of Operation. At 1000hrs Delta Company at BS886295 found 1 fairly new tunnel while searching area, destroyed.
Echo Company
February 23, 1968
Echo Company and 4.2 platoon where located on LZ Thunder to provide direct support to the Battalion. At 0940hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS835315. At 1449hrs Recon at BS839309 found in hut 1 VC rucksack, 3 GI jungle fatigues, 1 VC uniform gray, 1 Flashlight US, a pair of GI low quarters, assorted Ho Chi Minh sandals.
