Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continue their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0750hrs 1-20 Infantry call gate guard 1 at time to open gate 1000hrs to 1100hrs and 1500hrs to 1600hrs. At 0800hrs Bronco reports Alpha Company 39th Engineer are going to blow a mine at BS795405. Bravo Company was informed. At 0830hrs Helix 38 FAC is on station, checking area. At 1710hrs 1-20 Infantry to Brigade: Charlie Company all Bunkers OK CPT Donovin, Artillery OK 1st SGT Dodds, HHC CPT Holmes and Rear OK LT Beening, all have plumb bobs. At 1825hrs Access Road Open 1000hrs to 1100hrs and 1500hrs to 1600hrs. Notify Charlie Company PFC Kuba, Artillery SGT Pluner, and Rear SGT Davis. At 1831hrs 137th Paving for Victor: 137th will resume paving tomorrow. Request security to be provided, Paving to start at BS488418 with Security to be position by 0900hrs Alpha Company 137 will coordinate local security and traffic control.
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion.

Bravo Company
December 23, 1969
Bravo Company will again be using Recon in Force patrols and Multiple Patrolling, Day and Night Ambushes, with some Sweep and Clear Operations in their Area of Operation today. At 0820hrs Bravo Company Ranger at checkpoint 3 vicinity BS809437 picked up 6 females Vietnamese, no ID will be taking them in for relocation by rural development people. At 1230hrs Bravo Company has insertion of troops, PZ BS783433 22 element 1st 1730hrs, 23rd element 2nd 1240hrs and 99th element 3rd 1249hrs. Then report LZ 1st 1235hrs BS820450, 2nd 1244hrs at BS810405 and 3rd 1235hrs at BS812409. At 1320hrs Bravo Company requested Urgent Duct Off, Ranger element while chasing 3 VC dressed in black (one with weapon) wounded one male VC, in is back by small arms fire, also have wounded two female civilians one in leg, the other in arm. One female wearing black the other blue blouse with black pants, the other 2 VC that they wear chasing escaped, Dust Off completed at 1328hrs. At 1405hrs Bravo Company 82 element found approximately 1,000 pounds of rice at grid Bs809417, Rice taken to Command Post BS783433. At 1435hrs Bravo Company Ranger element found a tunnel complex with air holes for breathing at grid BS813406. They also found approximate 1,000 pounds of rice complex 8’ high 30’ across with 8 air holes. At 1755hrs Bravo Company the bunker at BS813360 was blown, by the Rangers, they took a total of 24 100 pound of rice from the bunker. At 1812hrs Bravo Company reports 82 closed on Day Logger also Recon has closed on Day Logger with 13 moving out to BS769451. At 1855hrs Bravo Company reports 13 moving out to BS769451, the 25 element also is moving out to BS782436. At 2215hrs Bravo Company Chieu Hoi is at Command Position location BS783433, have one Chieu Hoi turned himself into assistant hamlet Chief. This person belongs to the Young Man’s VC Association and his wife brother was a guerrilla VC, the Bravo Company had killed earlier, Chieu Hoi turned self in at 1700hrs.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0630hrs Charlie Company the 35 element and at 0636hrs the 16 element is closing on LZ Liz. At 0700hrs the 86 element reports they have closed on LZ Liz. At 1950hrs Charlie Company 14 is in location at BS755410, the 26 in location at BS764436 and the 15 element is moving out to BS769439 with 85 in location at BS777444.
Delta Company

At 0916hrs Delta Company the 12 element and the 22 element starting sweeps inside BS7640, BS7840, BS7638 and BS7838. The 84 element is in Observation Post on high ground and the 82 element will start sweep from Night Defense Position BS772377. At 1045hrs the 14 element on sweep found a tunnel complex at BS771379 the complex has three entrances and tunnel runs about 20 feet and branches off, also has standing room. The 13 element has checked out trail and closed on their day larger at BS773387. At 1110hrs Delta Company spotted one person at grid BS758387 and now we are checking the person out at this time. Delta Company also check out area where there was reported to be a 51-cal position BS768377 had negative findings, however, found several old fighting position and two new ones. The 14 element who will set up as a blocking force, grid BS779379, took small arms fire from their northeast swept area; results, very heavy growth in the area. Delta Company 72 and 99 elements closing on Night Defense Position BS764387, and the 22 element is in vicinity of BS775402. At 1843hrs Delta Company requested urgent Dust off 1 US who charred his hand on trip flare. Name Glen Brewster suffered 3rd degree burns and the Dust Off, was completed at 1852hrs. At 1900hrs Delta Company 24 snake is moving into location at BS777398 and the 14 snake is in location at BS773381. At 2110hrs Delta Company spotted movement at grid BS773400, artillery working out in area.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0635hrs 4.2 Platoon reports total expend 65 HE rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. At 0915hrs Recon Platoon conducts a Combat Assault 1st LZ 0915hrs and last LZ at 1000hrs Insertion of Recon to BS847405. At 1030hrs Recon Platoon found a tunnel at BS847405. At 1140hrs Recon Platoon found one home made grenade at BS847408 and made up can packed with powder with firing device, grenade blown in place. At 1155hrs Recon Platoon is ready for extraction 1st PZ at 1254hrs and last LZ at 1325hrs to LZ Liz.
