Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0400hrs MACV Duc Pho at BS790385 1 PF squad was ambushed by 1 VC squad with results 1 PF KHA and 1 M-1 carbine lost. At 1830hrs 174 Aviation Gun Ships at BS772425 engaged 1 VC evading into tree line with results 1 VC KHA with negative ID or weapons. At 2120hrs Recon Platoon were receiving small arm, automatic weapons fire and hand grenades, 1-20 Infantry scrambled Gun Ships contact at 2130hrs with negative casualties or damage with negative assessment. At 2230hrs Based on investigation it was determined that 3 US WHA was caused by enemy 82mm mortar fire rather then possible friendly Artillery fire (Check Delta Company).
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1530hrs Charlie Company 39 Engineer at BS726563 found a command detonated mine 30 pounds, commo wire with electrical blasting cap used to detonate. A Vietnamese Civilian showed unit where mine was, blew mine in place, crater 5’ deep and 8’ wide.
Alpha Company

At 0230hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon is moving to their Blocking Position which is to be established with Day and Night ambushes and the 51 element will remain on LZ Dragon for Security Mission. At 1200hrs Alpha Company is at BS624586 and at 1515hrs Alpha Company at BS665572 CIA 1 VCS male, black PJ, no ID and evading he will be evac to LZ Cork and then to LZ Bronco. 1-20 Infantry reports Alpha Company unscheduled Combat Assault with PZ at BS661524 at 1414hrs to LZ at BS613585 completed at 1452hrs LZ was cold. At 1951hrs Alpha Company moved into their locations 51 element is at LZ Dragon with Alpha Company (-) at BS643602.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0714hrs Bravo Company conducts Combat Assault from PZ LZ Liz to LZ at BS835415 completed at 0748hrs LZ cold. At 0750hrs Command and Control Helicopter detained 1 VCS male, picked up at BS843403, detained 5 VCS all females at BS825414 negative weapons or ID for all VCS evac to LZ Liz. At 1130hrs Bravo Company at BS834415 detained 8 VCS for questing with negative weapons, ID or packs and evac to LZ Bronco. At 1245hrs Bravo Company at BS827425 detained 7 VCS, evac to LZ turned them over to Vietnamese Nation Police. At 1320hrs Bravo Company at BS816417 checking area where Artillery was called for found 4 VC KBA with negative weapons or ID. At 1727hrs Bravo Company at BS846403CIA 2 VC with negative ID or weapons and evac to LZ Bronco.
Charlie Company

Delta Company
December 23, 1968
At 1435hrs Delta Company at BS755571 reports 3 VC KIA in Village, fire put in Artillery and was KBA by Artillery fire. At 1650hrs Helix 33 at BS757577 reports 6 structures and 1 Bunker destroyed and at 1655hrs Helix 33 at BS755568 bomb hedgerow and trenches, destroy 6 structures and 1 bunker. At 1750hrs Delta Company at BS755569 received sniper fire from all sides Artillery fire on them now. At 1845hrs Delta Company from Swift boat spotted some movement in Delta Company Area of Operation and wanted to lay down fire if it alright with Delta Company. At 1831hrs Delta Company at BS755569, while conducting a contact with Artillery fire Mission, had 3 WHA and Dust Off completed at 1903hrs, Rounds where either 81 or 60mm mortar rounds fire. At 2020hrs Delta Company reports their Night Defense Position at BS755569. At 2230hrs Based on investigation it was determined that 3 US WHA was caused by enemy 82mm mortar fire rather then possible friendly artillery fire.
Echo Company

Echo Company is located at LZ Liz where Battalion Forward is located and coordinates the Battalion Rear elements and Base Defense element on LZ Liz. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Liz where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). At 1515hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS772515. At 1620hrs Recon Platoon at BS772513 found large complex 3 VC KIA negative ID and weapons. At 1810hrs Recon Platoon received sniper fire 1 dink with single shot weapon. At 1835hrs Recon Platoon at BS772508 3 dinks 1 with weapon engaged with small arms fire with negative results and at 1844hrs point man from Recon ran into a dink results 1 VC KIA negative weapon or ID card. At 2020hrs Recon Platoon reports their Night Defense Position at BS773508. At 2120hrs Recon Platoon were receiving small arm, automatic weapons fire and hand grenades, 1-20 Infantry scrambled Sun Ships contact at 2130hrs with negative casualties or damage with negative assessment.
