Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0600hrs Command message (Observe Safety in the Field). At 0915hrs CS Drop, Aircraft for CS drop on station at 0915hrs. First25 barrels completed at 0930hrs and second drop completed at 0955hrs CS was dropped on grids BS690433 to BS700448 4-3 Infantry Area of Operation. Dropped CS on grids BS706474 to BS709452 (notified Dragon of all 4 grids). At 1315hrs Command and Control Helicopter broke station for Combat Assault. At 1840hrs LZ Liz reports on access road coming into LZ Liz convoy received sniper fire at BS765434.
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion. At 0830hrs 11 Brigade UPDATE on Ambush August 22, 1969 CPT Maxhum reports Delta 19 Engineer at BS814358 August 22, 1969 1 Platoon from Delta Company at 1430hrs reports a Vietnamese Vehicle hit by enemy rockets the Engineer moving to assist the Vietnamese received heavy small arms fire, RPG and mortars. A reaction force from Charlie Company 19 Engineer augmented with elements of Delta Company accompanied by 3 x Dusters moved from LZ Debbie to area of contact vicinity BS826339 the reaction force was ambushed. The Forward element received mortars, RPG and heavy small arms fire. 2 Dusters received a total of 5 direct hits. A Vehicle from 45 Engineer Group (NF1) was destroyed by enemy fire (1 US KIA and 8 WIA (E) from 19 Engineer, 1 US KIA and 1 US (E) from 19 Engineer, 1 US KIA and I US WIA from 45 Engineer Group, 1 PF WIA (E), 1 Civilian KIA and 11 civilians WIA (E) 5 NVA KIA and 2 POW CIA by S-5 11 Brigade 2 AK-47 CIA. At 09445 Charlie Company 19 Engineer at BS915245 while on mine sweep found seven obstacles in the middle of the road consisting of mounds of dirt and rocks, 1 mound was booby trap with 2 pull type grenades, destroyed and continued Mine Sweep. At 1115hrs UPDATE Delta Company 19 Engineer reports after sweep of yesterday contact area reports add 10 NVA KIA, 1 AK-47, 1 AK-50, 1 M-16 and 1 RPG-7 CIA.
Alpha Company

At 0555hrs Alpha Company the 46 snake has closed on the perimeter. At 2015hrs Alpha Company 1 man burned hand on a trip flare, the band aid man said, he could stay out there tonight. They would like him Dust Off, tomorrow morning by Command and Control helicopter.
Bravo Company
August 23, 1969
At 0610hrs Bravo Company is moving to our Day Logger at BS790436. The 84 element sweep to BS789443 and returned at 0756hrs. The 44 element is now starting on their Recon in Force to BS799441. At 1045 the 444 element returns to Day Logger at 1945hrs Bravo Company we are moving into our Night Defense Position. At 0359hrs Bravo Company reports that about 10 minutes ago the (rear security) of my 64 snake open fire on 2 VC/NVA carrying packs. They will check the area in the morning as of now there is unknown results, location BS780437. Bravo Company the 84 and 64 elements are leaving their location at this time, at 0612hrs the 64 element checked out the area of contact during the night. They report 1 NVA KIA dressed in green uniform, carrying a pack, pistol belt, 1 Chi Com grenade also, some bags of rice, it appears on the rice was dropped by his companion when the 64 element opened fire location BS780437. On further search one bag of rice contained poncho, shirt and some papers. The Bravo Company 64 then closed on Night Defense Position.
Charlie Company

Delta Company
August 23, 1969
At 0605hrs Delta Company preparing to move out to Day Logger at BS733447 and the 85 element is leaving on Patrol. At 0830hrs Delta Company Request Dust Off for man with high temp and vomiting Hayden possible malaria. At 2055hrs Delta Company in Night Defense Position with 64 and 84 snakes in position. Delta Company reports the following where evac PFC Jack W. Hayden and PFC Walter N. Webb where evac to 91st Evac Hospital.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 4.2 Platoon reports Defense Targets 1, total expend 2 HE, 1 WP rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon reports that they are leaving their snake location at this time and by 0700hrs they are closing on LZ Liz at this time.
