Headquarters and Headquarter Company
April 23, 1968
Forward Area 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Ross for Operation WHEELER-WALLOWA and are OPCON to the 198th Light Infantry Brigade. As the 196th Light Infantry Brigade moves north to support the Marines.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. S-4 section moves a team to LZ Ross, which will become part of the Rear Area forward.
Alpha Company
April 23, 1968
Alpha Company continued their Search and Destroy operations in their Area of Operation. At 0845hrs Alpha Company OP sighted 7 personnel with weapons at coordinates AT044401 wearing black shorts and shirts no hats are firing artillery at coordinates.
Bravo Company
April 23, 1968
Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Ryder and OP in their Area of Operation. At 0656hrs Bravo Company 10 returned from ambush to Company Night Defense Position and received small arms fire at coordinates AT978356, returned fire and now searching area for sniper. At 1029hrs Bravo Company re supply ship received 2 to 3 small bursts of small arms fire at coordinates AT984345. Bravo Company is sending out elements to check area with negative hits. At 1630hrs Bravo Company report a Platoon is pinned down by automatic weapons fire Guns ships called on station at 1650hrs and broke station at 1700hrs. SP4 Jerry Luna was attached to the 2nd Surgical Hospital.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued to use their Search and Clear operations in their Area of Operation.
Delta Company
April 23, 1968
Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Ross and their Road Security for the 535 road.
Echo Company
April 23, 1968
Echo Company is located at LZ Ross where Battalion Forward is located and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and the Base Defense or LZ Ross. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Ross where they continue to provide direct fire support for the Battalion. At 1830hrs Recon Platoon at AT002237 observed 22 NVA at AT987378, had OD uniforms carrying packs and weapons, camouflage helmet. Requested gun ships, 1-20 Infantry reports on station at 1903hrs and broke station at 1920hrs, did not received fire artillery now. At 1920hr Recon at OP Cobra at coordinates AT037389 fired 81mm mortar at 7 VC in open, 1 round was on target, 2 VC fell, the other VC drug the bodies away, more 81mm was fired, VC dispersed left on body.
