Headquarters and Headquarter Company
September 22, 1970

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0030hrs LZ Snoopy Radar at BS718618 sighted 5 to 6 stationary personnel, negative clearance due to build up area. At 0055hrs MACV Mo Duc Gold Report Tu Cuong 082/MD 220600hrs RF 315, PF 162 and 165, PF 150 and 250 at BS710615 to BS723578 to BS740605 to BS740578. With Alpha Company locations at BS721577 to BS733584 and Bravo Company from BS707616 to BS714605 to BS725595 along with Charlie Company from BS707616 to BS714605 to BS717610 to BS7336615 acting as security for rice harvest. At 0315hrs Jackal 49 on Station North Half Box 64, broke station at 0410hrs with negative findings. Also Legend: 1st Platoon 54-59, 2nd Platoon 84-89, 3rd Platoon 34-39, 4th Platoon 04-09 and CO 12.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion. 

 

Alpha Company
September 22, 1970

Alpha Company continued to work their Area of Operation. At 1935hrs Alpha Company and Recon at BS655576 requests Urgent Dust Off for US with Multiple Frag Wounds completed at 1955hrs (Dust off 4 WHA). Alpha Company received 6 60mm rounds 3 landed outside perimeter and 3 near Recon area. Recon was moving into their Night Defense Position, rounds come in and we counted with small arms and artillery with negative results. Recon Platoon reports SGT Thomas M. Day to Bravo Company B 23 Medical treated and released with frag wound to left Pelvis, SGT Carlo R. Marten to 23 Medical treated and released with frag wound to right forearm, PFC Robert H. Nagle to Battalion Aid treated and released with frag wound to left elbow and SGT Ruben L. Rojas to B 23 Medical treated and released with frag wound to head.

 

Bravo Company
September 22, 1970

At 1245hrs Bravo Company 56 element found booby trap in Combat Assault location, 1 pt size tomato can that was filled with Petna in a sandbag, blown in place. Bravo Company has a few patrols in their Area of Operation.

 

Charlie Company
September 22, 1970

At 1600hrs Charlie Company 88 element is in objective area at BS746421. At 1915hrs the 34 element is moving to BS730442. At 1920hrs Charlie Company 12 element is moving out for BS721438. At 1950hrs Charlie Company 54 element is in location BS738418, 34 at BS730442 and 12 closed on their location at BS721438. Charlie Company reports SP4 Phillip Loveless to B 23 Medical treated and released with frag wound right shoulder and ear.

 

Delta Company
September 22, 1970

At 0710hrs Delta Company 54 and 34 elements is in Day Logger location at BS739573 with the 84, 12 and 04 elements location at BS746574. At 0855 Delta Company this time the Command Post group has up to 4,000 pounds of rice to be bagged and the 34, 54 has found another area which looks like it was being prepared to store rice. At 1040hrs Delta Company at BS739572 the 34 and 54 elements found 2 wooden doors like those used to cover rice caches also found approximately 4,000 pounds of unpolished rice. It was in good condition found in boxes and bags and rice bins, this harvest it appears it and was being prepare to be cached. At 1641hrs Delta Company at BS746574, complete Rice count, of 9,300 pounds. At 1910hrs Delta Company 12 reports he has 50 rice bags at his location that the 54/34 elements have about 2500 pounds of rice to be bagged and extracted. At 2000hrs Delta Company 34 element is in location at BS739567 and the 54 element in location at BS737575.

 

Echo Company
September 22, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for (1-20 Infantry) TASK FORCE HONIJYO. At 0840hrs Recon Platoon at BS668578 requested routine Dust Off for US (Helton) stomach cramps, completed at 0930hrs (Possible SGT James R. Helton with Stomach cramps). Echo Company 12 at BS779442 requests Urgent Dust Off for 1 PF with gunshot wounds to head and shoulder completed at 1315hrs. At 1925hrs Alpha Company and Recon Platoon at BS665574 received 6 60mm rounds, 3 landed outside Night Defense Position and 3 landed near Recon Platoon as they were moving in their Night Defense Position. The incoming rounds came from 600 meters to their southwest, 4 Dust Off with multiple frag wounds, 1 Urgent and 3 routine, they countered with small arms fire and artillery with negative results and completed at 1955hrs. Echo Company reports from Recon SGT Thomas M. Day to Bravo Company B 23 Medical treated and released with frag wound to left Pelvis, SGT Carlo R. Marten to 23 Medical treated and released with frag wound to right forearm, PFC Robert H. Nagle to Battalion Aid treated and released with frag wound to left elbow and SGT Ruben L. Rojas to B 23 Medical treated and released with frag wound to head.
