Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Ross for Operation WHEELER-WALLOWA and are OPCON to the 196th Light Infantry Brigade. At 0730hrs Delta Company 3-1 Infantry will be airlifted at 0730hrs by CH47 from LZ Ross to LZ Baldy and then by C7A to Duc Pho returning to OPCON to the 11th Light Infantry Brigade.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 1700hrs at BS789418 4-21 Infantary reports a ¾ Ton vehicle was ambushed by 4 to 5 VC with results vehicle received few rounds, 2 flat tires with negative casualties.
Alpha Company
May 22, 1968
Alpha Company has the Security Mission for LZ Ross. One platoon from Alpha Company will established a block vicinity BT012346, while 1 platoon from Alpha Company and 1 platoon F Troop 17 Calvary swept into the block and all units will then returned to LZ Ross. Delta Company 3-1 Infantry is airlifted at 0739hrs to LZ Baldy and by fixed wing from LZ Baldy to return to control of their parent unit.
Bravo Company

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Ryder and will be conducting local Security Patrols in their Area of Operation.
Charlie Company
May 22, 1968
At 1431hrs Charlie Company vicinity BT042315 received fire from 2 automatic weapons position 700 meters northeast negative casualties or damage, called in artillery. At 1450hrs observed 2 VC evading to the west and shifted artillery on them with unknown results.
Delta Company
May 22, 1968
Delta Company begins to use multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation sweeping north and at 1134hrs Delta Company vicinity AT981377 detained 50 year old VCS, hiding in a cave was 12’ wide, 22’ long, 6’ high, with a room to the right 10’ X 4’. Inside found 4 bags of rice, 1 NVA Uniform, 1 NVA pack, towel, documents and 2 books. There was 3 automatic weapons position around the cave with a single strand of barb wire around cave. VCS says 3 VC cadre left this morning, will destroy cave, evac equipment and VCS. At 1320hrs vicinity AT984380 found a medical supplies and will evac.
Echo Company
May 22, 1968
Echo Company is located at LZ Ross where Battalion Forward, is located and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and the Base Defense on LZ Ross. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Ross where they continue to provide direct fire support for the Battalion. 1-20 Infantry Recon Platoon manned OP Tiger, Cobra and Dragon.
