Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. Nui Vong, vicinity BS690575 fired on lights moving northwest and southeast expended 14 HE 81mm Mortar and 5 HE ARVN Tank rounds. At 0110hrs South OP had an alert and mad minute, engaged with 1 Defense Target’s at 0115hrs alert ended, everything satisfactory. At 0115hrs Nui Vong called a practice alert, when spotting 2 lights at grid BS669585. Alert was called at 0100rhs and was over at 0115hrs fired on grid of lights, expended 4 rounds HE from ARVN tank and 5 HE rounds from the US tank. Also fired hill Defense Target’s with illumination and Quad 50’s fired to west. At 1345hrs Warlord Blue is on station for Nighthawk Box 64, at 0435hrs spotted an unknown size enemy force of VC/NVA on trail evading into a bunker. VC/NVA had packs, Warlord Blue engaged area and received a small amount of small arms fire. Results 7 VC/NVA with packs confirmed KIA. At 0445hrs broke station to refuel and reload. Warlord Blue couldn’t confirm weapons vicinity of expenditure BS717496. At 0823hrs LZ Liz Access road is open at this time. At 0900hrs 1-20 Infantry Primo 5 is on station at this time. At 0947hrs Warlord 33 is on station to work Upper Left 7051 and lower Right 7447. At 0958hrs Warlord 33 checked special Air Calvary Box, negative findings, bodies were gone. At 1136hrs Warlord 01 is into Box 52. At 1324hrs 1-20 Infantry Med Cap in location at this time. At 1333hrs Warlord 33 in Air Calvary Box 62, military targets, packs, and weapons evading type of clearance. At 1400hrs Warlord 33 vicinity BS620260 spotted hootches and bunkers destroyed. At 1410hrs Helix 35 is on station at this time. At 1430hrs 4 ARVN Recon held down by Company size element at BS2549, gun ships were requested at 1440hrs and cancelled at 1450rhs due to weather conditions and negative US on the ground. Stated they had been in contact for quite some time with negative friendly casualties. At 1437hrs Warlord spotted some hootches at grid BS635265, also at grid BS620260 destroyed 8 hootches. At 1445hrs 1-20 Infantry AMC Bird, 2 slicks and guns on station at this time Combat Assault for Charlie Company. At 1445hrs 1-20 Infantry Warlord 33 is leaving box 62, going to Duc Pho for fuel. At 1453hrs Helix 35 is breaking station at this time. At 1500hrs Dolphin 20 broke station at this time. At 1505hrs Warlord 33 entering Box 50, Rules of engagement: fire for fire, packs and weapons evading Duc Pho (ww). At 1700hrs 1-20 Infantry Primo 5 broke station at this time. At 1815hrs H Troop with RF 172, Mechanical Ambush was tripped vicinity BS731604 during the night, have negative knowledge of what time, found blood trails, requested tracker team with negative results. At 1842hrs Charlie Company Combat Assault 1st PZ 1454hrs and 7th (Last) LZ at 1830hrs. At 2240hrs PF 169 vicinity BS786426, ambush contact, results 1 VC KIA, 1 AK 47 CIA negative friendly casualties. At 2355hrs Nui Vong spotted moving lights vicinity BS694577, engaged with 81mm Mortar and ARVN Tank, Expended 8 HE and 5 Illumination 81mm Mortar and 5 HE from tank. Legend: 1st Platoon 17, 2nd Platoon 44, 3rd Platoon 56, 4th Platoon 23 and CO-64.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

Bravo Company has continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. Bravo Company has moved to LZ Bronco and taken over a Security Mission for the Brigade.
Charlie Company
June 22, 1971
Charlie Company continued to use Patrol Bases and Multiple Patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0713hrs Charlie Company Command Post, 3rd and 2nd Platoon is on the move to Patrol Base vicinity BS723427. At 0812hrs Charlie Company and Recon have link up, all in Patrol Base vicinity BS723427. At 1445hrs AMC Bird, 2 slicks and guns is on station at this time for Charlie Company Combat Assault with 1st PZ at 1454hrs and last LZ at 1830hrs. At 1900hrs Charlie Company OP observed 12 bearing 1 VC was KIA of Charlie Company last night contact, at BS729432. At 1940hrs 3rd Platoon vicinity BS737425 after moving through Night Defense Position site to check out area spotted 8-10 VC/NVA some are carrying packs. The 3rd Platoon received 5 rounds AK 47 fire, Recon by small arms fire and M-79, called for illumination to check area and found 8 basket type packs with 3 NVA ponchos, bananas, and bunches of grass for making hooch’s and one rope. The VC/NVA evaded in trench north to south. At 2207hrs LATE SPOT At 1940hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon at LZ grid BS696525 at 1650hrs observed 6 VC/NVA with packs and weapons at a distance of 300 meters, engaged and pursued. Gunnies were non-available due to armament problems, when guns returned on station engaged the area of evasion and received 2 secondary explosions at BS697528. At 2100hrs Charlie Company is in their Night Defense Positions Command Post and 2nd Platoon at BS737430 and 3rd Platoon at BS739425.

Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0713hrs Recon is on the move to link up with Charlie Company at vicinity BS723427. At 0812hrs Charlie Company and Recon have link up, all in Patrol Base vicinity BS723427. At 1800hrs Recon is moving out to vicinity BS758395.
