Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0045hrs TMF at 0032hrs String 312 B unknown size element in stationary target with metal confirmed and engaged at 0038hrs with 10 HE Artillery 105mm. At 0103hrs TMF at 0050hrs String 311 B unknown size stationary target with metal confirmed and at 0054hrs engaged with 10 HE Artillery 105mm. At 0125hrs Blue Ghost 43 is on station and will check BS7439 (estimated company sized element picked up by radar and engaged by artillery at 2345hrs, at 2400hrs and at 0105hrs). Ghost 43 checked the area of impact, sighted no bodies and engaged wood lines with 50 caliber but had no results and at 0210hrs Blue Ghost 43 is breaking station. At 0703hrs S-4 Dolphin 639 is on station for re supply. At 0829hrs Primo 6 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 0900hrs S-4 Resupply bird is breaking station at this time. At 0913hrs TMF at 0912hrs Sting 312 B stationary target with metal confirmation, also with negative clearance due to RD Zone. At 1945hrs MACV Mo Duc vicinity BS755573 report a Company from 103 RF Battalion engaged 5 VC 300 meters to their east with 60mm mortar and 105 artillery, swept the area and found 1 black shirt, negative casualties. At 2215hrs Blue Ghost Black is on station for Box 67 and 69 and broke station at 2313hrs with negative findings. Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.

Alpha Company
January 22, 1971

Alpha Company continued to use Patrol Bases and multiple Patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1057hrs Alpha Company 2^nd Platoon patrol is moving out for BS719429 and 3^rd Platoon patrol is moving out for BS729448. At 1325hrs Alpha Company 2^nd Platoon patrol at checkpoint 2 vicinity BS735431, 3^rd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 2 at BS725453. At 1445hrs Alpha Company 2^nd Platoon patrol closed vicinity BS737426 and 3^rd Platoon patrol closed at BS728450. At 1550hrs Alpha Company 2^nd Platoon at BS737429 sighted 3 personnel vicinity BS737429. Point man opened up with small arms and they evaded to the southeast, engaged at a distance of 300 meters was wearing all black and the other 2 were dressed in green, all 3 had weapons and checked area with negative results. At 1729hrs Alpha Company 3^rd Platoon at checkpoint 3 and closing on BS735450 and 2^nd Platoon patrol is closing on BS718423. At 1820hrs Alpha Company Command Post with 3^rd and 4^th Platoon is moving to BS746443 and 2^nd Platoon moving to night location at BS736429.

Charlie Company
January 22, 1971

At 0621hrs Charlie Company 3^rd Platoon patrol is moving out for BS707568. At 0702hrs Charlie Company 2^nd Platoon stay behind ambush closed on BS665564 and 2^nd Platoon ambush closed on BS680571. At 0721hrs Charlie Company 3^rd Platoon vicinity BS706567, request 1 Urgent Dust Off for 2 US with minor frag wounds to leg and arms, SP4 Ronnie H. Ray and PFC Wendell, completed at 0739hrs. At 0745hrs Charlie Company 3^rd Platoon while on patrol detonated a booby trap a can of Petna with an AK47 cartridges used as shrapnel, had pressure release firing device and the results is 2 WHA. At 0951hrs 3^rd Platoon patrol closed on OP Wink vicinity BS699562. At 0756hrs Charlie Company 2^nd Platoon patrol has moved out for BS678578. At 0951hrs Charlie Company 3^rd Platoon patrol has closed on OP Wink. At 0952hrs Charlie Company 3^rd Platoon vicinity BS706567 detained 2 females with negative ID. They were detained at the location where Booby Trap was detonated and 2 US were wounded, Nguyon Thi Bon age 15, wearing orange and black and Nguyon Thi Hien age 9 wearing flowered blouse and black bottoms, will back haul both to Mo Duc. At 1252hrs Charlie Company 1^st Platoon vicinity BS707543, found 2 well concealed fighting positions recently used. Both positions were connected by tunnel, they were each just large enough to fit 1 person will destroy as much as possible. At 1630hrs Charlie Company Command Post vicinity BS699562 at OP Wink bought 40 M-60 rounds for 2 cans of C rations, 2 Vietnamese 8 and 10 years old destroyed the rounds in place. At 2112hrs Charlie Company 1^st Platoon ambush BS683548, and 2^nd Platoon in location vicinity BS680579. PFC George I Wendell was evac to the 91^st Evac Hospital with multiple frag wounds to both legs. SGT Ronnie H. Ray was awarded a Purple Heart and was evac to B 23 Medical with multiple frag wounds to both legs. Also 1LT David A. Hodges was treated at Battalion Aid station with minor frag wound to jaw.

Delta Company
January 22, 1971

Delta Company set up saturation patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 0706hrs Delta Company 2^nd Platoon closed on BS692482 their ambush location. At 1156hrs Delta Company 3^rd Platoon patrol is at checkpoint 1 at BS691478. At 1235hrs Delta Company 1^st Platoon patrol is moving out for BS745583. At 1710hrs Delta Company vicinity BS683482 checked out the area of artillery prep was pretty well torn up with the element having negative findings and returned to Patrol Base. At 1910hrs Delta Company locations Command Post and 3^rd platoon BS697469, 2^nd platoon BS696473, 1^st and 4^th Platoon BS753568 and 1^st platoon ambush BS753564.

Echo Company
January 22, 1971

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry.
