Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0002hrs Saber 40 is on station to check an IOS sighting of 30-40 at BS713558 (scrambled by brigade). At 0010hrs Saber 40 in area of OP Wink is receiving small arms fire from, north, northeast and northwest. At 0035hrs Saber 40 observed supper half of VC body KBA at BS7055 by Charlie Battery 6-11 Artillery. At 0042hrs Saber 40 received small arms fire approximately above grid, engaged the area with unknown results. Saber 40 broke for fuel and to rearm at 0115hrs. At 0130hrs Saber 40 back on station and area of IOS sighting. At BS705552 Saber 40 engaged a unknown number of enemy with packs and weapons. Results to date 13 VC/NVA KIA, also observed secondary explosions in the area. At 0252hrs Saber 40 has sighted numerous drag marks out of the area of contact, also movement at BS705550. At 0350hrs Hornet 16 on station for Combat Assault as AMC ship and at 0339hrs Saber 40 has 1 KIA there are now 8 bodies in area of contact 5 have been drag away. Combat Assault is completed at 0424hrs, at 0430hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon have found 9 NVA KIA, 4 AK 47 and 1 RPG launcher CIA. At 0545hrs total results to date Saber 40 has 14 KIA and at BS705552 and 2 KBA by C 6-11 Artillery at Bs705565 and other at BS704568. Charlie Company conducted the Combat Assault with 2 Lift ships and one flare ship with two Gun ships. At 0035hrs South OP vicinity BS748423 observed 6 personnel with starlight scope, requested 4.2 Fire Mission, reported 4 down and 2 up and requested Fire Mission repeat and engaged with M-60. After 2nd Fire Mission reported negative movement, results unknown. At 0308hrs Combat Assault by Charlie Company 2 Gun ships Stinger 89 and 1 Flare ship Hornet 28, 1 AMC ship Hornet 16, 2 Lift ships, at 0624hrs Sabre 40 is breaking station. At 0725hrs PF 165 vicinity BS698563, after being warned not to enter an area, a member of PF 165 was wounded when he detonated a friendly Mechanical Ambush, the PF was attempting to recover a parachute, Dust Off was completed at 0733hrs. At 0819hrs Minuteman 13 is on station and breaking station at 0830hrs. At 0836hrs Primo 3 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 0837hrs Helix 33 is breaking station. At 1055hrs 1-20 Infantry Combat Assault of Charlie Company vicinity BS70715507, 3rd Platoon 1. LZ 0410hrs at BS70715507, 6 packs, 2, LZ 0416hrs at BS70715507 6 packs, 3. LZ 0424hrs BS70715507 6 packs total of 18 packs where inserted. At 2040hrs MACV vicinity BS763477, Urgent Dust Off for 2 Vietnamese 1 with wound to head and I with wounds to stomach (frag wounds), received these in a contact completed at 2105hrs. At 2128hrs MACV Mo Duc vicinity BS763477, RF 103 received small arms fire from 250 to 300 meters to the south east of OP, from approximately 5 to 6 VC. RF request fire mission and returned small arms fire. Results 2 VC KIA, CIA 1 M-16, 3 RF WIA, 2 Urgent Dusted Off at 2105hrs. Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company

At 0800hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon ambush closed on BS703479, Command Post, 1st, 4th Platoon Patrol Base at BS711478, 1st Platoon Patrol Base at BS689499, with 3rd Platoon Patrol Base at BS660500. Alpha Company continued their multiple patrolling in their Area of Operation. At 1045hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon patrol at checkpoint 2 at BS717474, 1st Platoon patrol at checkpoint 1 at BS684504 with 3rd Platoon at Patrol Base at BS671501. At 1655hrs Alpha Company 3rd Platoon is at checkpoint 1 at BS673503, 1st Platoon Patrol is at checkpoint 1 at BS693507 and 2nd Platoon patrol is moving to BS675563. At 1941hrs Alpha Company 2nd Platoon ambush location is at BS710489, Command Post, 1st, 4th Platoon is at BS712425, 1st Platoon ambush at BS717433, 2nd Platoon ambush at BS706428 with 3rd Platoon at BS729424.
Bravo Company

At 1210hrs Bravo Company closed on Nui Vong and 1420hrs Bravo Company closed on LZ Liz to take over the Security Mission for LZ Liz.

At 0810hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon while checking contact area vicinity BS706552 sighted movement, they engaged the area with small arms fire and hand grenades. They continued their sweep finding a bunker, check they bunker they capture 1 NVA WIA/CIA size of bunker 3’ X 3’ and it was destroyed. At 0845hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon vicinity BS707551, litter captured to date 5 AK-47, 1 45 Cal pistol, 1 RPG complete (launder and pad) misc. rucksacks, hand frag and rice. At 1055hrs Charlie Company a Combat Assault vicinity BS70715507, 3rd Platoon PZ at BS699562 and additional 18 personnel where inserted into the area. At 1115hrs Charlie Company the following is a list of items CIA during their contact at BS70715507 at 0410hrs 22 February 1971 of IOS sighting of 30 to 40 individuals: 2 NVA rucksacks, 3 NVA canteens, 1 claymore firing device, 8 bandages, 2 NVA shovels, 13 AK 47magazines full. Also 7 NVA helmets (pith), 9 NVA belts leather, 19 homemade Chi Com grenades, 2 NVA ponchos, 2 B –40 rockets, 1 RPF launcher, 8 AK 47, 1 NVA holster, 80 pounds of rice, 14 NVA KIA Night hawk, 2 NVA KBA Charlie Battery 6-11 artillery. At 1325hrs Charlie Company request routine Dust Off for 2 US with high temp completed at 1335hrs. At 1505hrs Charlie Company 1st Platoon moving out for perimeter patrol closed 699563.At 1816hrs Charlie 1st Platoon security patrol closed 699563. At 2125hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon brought 8 60mm mortar rounds from 10 year old Vietnamese child paid him 4 boxes of C Rations. Rounds were brand new 5, were kept by Vietnamese element and 3 were destroyed.
Delta Company

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0750hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon is in their Patrol Base at BS709434 with 1st Platoon patrol at 0810hrs moving to BS720437. At 1236hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon is moving to BS705431 with the 2nd Platoon is in their Patrol Base at BS710424. At 1420hrs Delta Company moving off of LZ Liz with Delta Company 3rd Platoon at BS721418 and at 1925hrs Delta Company Command Post is in the Night Defense Position at BS712435, 1st Platoon ambush at BS717433, 2nd Platoon moving to BS706428 and the 3rd Platoon moving out for BS729424.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for 1-20 Infantry. At 0705hrs Recon is in their Patrol Base vicinity BS825425.
