Headquarters and Headquarter Company

Forward Area: (1-20 Infantry Headquarters) is located at LZ Liz and will continue to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0800hrs Primo 4 is on station for Command and Control Helicopter. At 0805hrs 26 Engineers, road is open at this time. At 0945hrs Primo 4 is breaking station at this time. At 1035hrs S-4 Dolphin 215 is on station for resupply. At 1110hrs Warlord 23 is breaking station with negative finding. At 1155hrs Helix 34 is on station and sent to work for Alpha Company. At 1356hrs Helix 34 reports sighting several digging going on near a former hamlet. Believes I could be a 50 Caliber position. He also saw some people moving around in the area, all children and women they were not involved in any unusual activity. At 1415hrs 1-20 Infantry Battalion Commander departed Fire Support Base Liz for Combat Assault, Warlords 21 and 6 on station. At 2306hrs MACV Mo Duc at BS743667 an argument between PF 251 and PF 276 occurred resulting in a fire fight between the elements. This resulted in 2 PF WIA, 1 in the shoulder, 1 in the hip Urgent Dust Off was called and completed at 1725hrs the cause of the argument was not known at this time. At 2355hrs MACV Mo Duc vicinity BS757639, a (squad size) element from RF 937 Company engaged approximately 30 VC/NVA, unit designation was unknown. RF element with drew to the Nui Cay OP and broke Contact, Ambush resulted in negative friendly injured and negative results. Legend: 1st Platoon 83-88, 2nd Platoon 33-38, 3rd Platoon 03-08, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 09.
Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco.
Alpha Company
December 22, 1970
Alpha Company again will be using Multiple Patrols in their Area of Operations. At 0900hrs Alpha Company intelligence from Village Chief of Duc Son as told to Alpha Company. Suspect Platoon Sappers 1/3 with weapons hastily dug in vicinity BS693527-BS697575. At 1200hrs late report 2nd Platoon 20 December 1970 at 1010hrs SGT Ronald M. Foster was wounded slightly in the lower left leg by a piece of frag from M-79 round, fired by the enemy. He was treated in the field and back hauled on 21 December on the resupply bird. At 1920hrs Alpha Company reports locations 3rd Platoon BS697533, 2nd Platoon BS703556, BS700565, 1st Platoon BS671562, BS675566.
Bravo Company
December 22, 1970
At 0900hrs Bravo Company 1st Platoon moving to their Patrol Base vicinity BS747450 spotted 1 female and 2 males evading to the southeast. 1 male wearing a pack, they engaged the 3 at 400 meters and continued to maneuver, they were able to CIA the female and are continuing the search for the 2 males. The female was wearing red and black, with a mutilated ID. Kit Carson Scout says that she is a VC and will be extracted to Mo Duc. The 3rd Platoon, as Hercules 24 departed the 3rd Platoon LZ they heard approximately 25 rounds semi-automatic and automatic fire coming from a position 600 meters north. Hercules 24 confirmed that his aircraft took 2 hits while circling away from LZ to the northeast, 3rd Platoon is sending a element to search the area.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company continued their VIP and patrolling in their Area of Operation. Charlie Company also deployed some Day Ambushes in their Area of Operation. At 1905hrs Charlie Company 3rd Platoon ambushes in location vicinity BS745393, BS739403, BS753404 and Command Post and 4th Platoon in location BS759393. At 2030hrs Charlie Company 2nd Platoon is at BS771369, BS778354, with 1st Platoon BS734414 and BS743410.
Delta Company
December 22, 1970
Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0745hrs Delta Company 1st Platoon has closed on LZ Liz. At 1530hrs Delta Company after they were inserted along the beach vicinity BS799463, pick-up 7 detainees. Cobras spotted these people leaving in boats and forced them to return to shore, 6 females and 1 male were evac to Duc Pho. Have no other knowledge of detainees, as they were back hauled to Duc Pho as quickly after pick up.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon continued their Security Mission for the 1-20 Infantry.
