Headquarters and Headquarter Company
December 22, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0745hrs 1-20 Infantry Command and Control Helicopter pick up at BS658521 evading detained 2 VCS to LZ Liz. At 1045hrs DTOC: S-3 Avoid the use of meaningless clinches as Search and Clear and Combat Operations. Instead describe what is taking place, as the attack, detailed search, reconnaissance in force, cordon and search, raid and etc. This will go into effect to all reports from this time until further notice.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. At 0800hrs Charlie Company 39 Engineer at BS716600 received 2 rounds of sniper fire with negative casualties. At 0830hrs Charlie Company 39 Engineer at BS719590 reports they received 2 rounds of sniper fire with negative casualties. At 1315hrs Bravo Company 39 Engineer received 8 rounds of sniper fire with negative casualties.

 

Alpha Company
December 22, 1968

At 0800hrs the 51 element remains on LZ Dragon for Security Mission for the Fire Support Base. Alpha Company reports their 91, 21 and 61 elements moving out to grid BS745500. At 0930hrs Alpha Company at BS752502 CIA 7 VCS with 2 females confirmed 1 to be a nurse and the little people took them to Mo Duc MACV. At 1705hrs Alpha Company at BS729523 detained 1 VCS with negative weapon, KD or documents to LZ Bronco. Alpha Company set up their Night Defense Position and get ready to move out in the morning.

 

Bravo Company
December 22, 1968

Bravo Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Liz. At 0930hrs at BS746427 found a dud 4.2 Mortar round blew it in place moving south to BS759482 where they detained 2 VCS. At 1715hrs Bravo Company at BS739482 detained 1 VCS detained 1 VCS with negative ID, weapon or documents and evac to LZ Bronco. The 21 element will set up their night ambush and prepare to work as a blocking force tomorrow. PFC John E. Roalais was attached to the 106 General Hospital.

 

Charlie Company
December 22, 1968

Charlie Company is at LZ Bronco for their Stand Down. Charlie Company 61 has Security Mission for LZ Dragon.

 

Delta Company
December 22, 1968

At 0800hrs Delta Company at BS690588 with Recon at BS647576, BS641579 and BS644578. At 0930hrs Delta Company at BS680584 discovered grave, less then 24hrs old. There was a adult male wrapped in plastic, dead from hand grenade as a results 1 KIA. At 1030hrs Delta Company (-) at BS680584 with 91 at BS684577 by 1200hrs Delta Company is now at BS677577. At 1100hrs at BS643586 Recon UPDATE engaged 9 NVA, contact broken at 1325hrs, Results 9 NVA KIA. A sweep of the contact area 8 weapons CIA, 5 B-40 rockets, 7 Chi Com hand grenade, 5 M-26 hand grenade, 2 US Carbines, 3 SKS, 2 AK47, and one Rocket launcher also the NVA were dressed in Khaki Uniforms. At 1825hrs Delta Company is at BS667578 with Recon located at BS674580.

 

Echo Company
December 22, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Liz where Battalion Forward is located and coordinates the Battalion Rear elements and Base Defense element on LZ Liz. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Liz where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion). At 0800hrs Recon Platoon reports their location at BS647576, BS641579 and BS644578. At 0835hrs Recon at BS645573 engaged 3 NVA dressed in green uniforms, 1 had pack, 1 had weapon with negative results. At 1030hrs Recon Platoon reports their location BS647576 and BS641579. At 1100hrs Recon at BS643586 engaged 9 NVA contact broken at 1325hrs with results 9 NVA KIA, 7 weapons CIA 5 B-40 rockets, 7 Chi Com hand grenades and 5 M-26 hand grenades. Also NVA were dressed in Khaki Uniforms 2 US carbines, 3 SKS, 1 AK 47, Sweeping contact area. At 1430hrs Recon reported on the CIA weapons, weapons CIA is now at 9, still only 1 AK-47. LATE SPOT: At 2332hrs 1-20 Infantry Command and Control Helicopter engaged unknown size enemy force with results 3 US WHA (M) 1 EM and 3 Officers from Battalion Command Post, WHA was Battalion Commander, S-3 and EM received minor wounds from hand grenade frag. Hand grenade thrown by enemy after Command and Control Helicopter at area of Recon 1-20 Infantry previous contact injuries all very minor and did not interrupt duty. At 1825hrs Recon Platoon reports their Night Defense Position at BS674580.
