Battalion Forward: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and continued their working with the ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0600hrs 1-20 Infantry sends Command message given to companies, rear and Recon. At 0955hrs S-3 to all companies Effective 1800hrs 22 August there will be no Vietnamese Nationals staying with the companies in the field. At 1425hrs FAC Helix 37, put air strike at grid BS860370, Bomb Damage Assessment 8 structures destroyed, 5 damaged, 20 spider holes uncovered. 11th Light Infantry Brigade 24-25 Aug 69 have 1 rifle company on 30 minutes Alert Status prepared for deployment to secure down VIP helicopter Bravo Company to secure.
Battalion Rear: Battalion Rear continued their Mission for providing general support for the Battalion. At 1435hrs Delta Company 19 Engineer at BS814358 received RPG and small arms fire with Gun Ships on station the 3-4 ARVN alert west flank river Valley. At 1540hrs 4 ACAV from E Troop moving south on Highway 1, the 4 Recon Company block north and 1 Company 1-20 Infantry alert for 30 minute stand by with results 2 US (E). At 1710hrs contact broken at 1645hrs totals 2 US KIA, 9 US WIA (E), 1 2 ½ Ton truck destroyed, 2 NVA CIA, 5 NVA KIA information only. At 1630hrs LZ Bronco received 6 140mm rocket with results 3 US WIA (E) 1 Red Cross Worker, 1 from HHC 11 Brigade and 1 from Alpha Company 23 S &T Transportation. At 1630hrs LZ Bronco reports on Yellow Alert received 3 incoming rockets with results 5 US WIA (E) 3 from Charlie Company 19 Engineer and 2 from 45 Engineer (information only). At 1730hrs LZ Brown is back to White Alert. At 1830hrs LZ Bronco reports is now on Yellow Alert 3 incoming rockets at this time. The Headquarters and Headquarters Company 19 Engineer reports SP4 MICHAEL JOHN GRECU is listed as KIA. Charlie Company 1-82 Artillery reports PFC BERTRAND RONALD GAGNE IS LISTED AS KIA.
Alpha Company

At 0555hrs Alpha Company our snake closed with the Night Defense Position. Alpha Company OP tonight is in position, the 66 element.
Bravo Company
August 22, 1969
At 0455hrs Bravo Company we are now moving out on Cordon and Search operation our 51 elements snake will remain in their location. The 11 element will stay in the Night Defense Position location to guard the equipment. At 0615hrs we are in position and have started our Cordon and Search operation. At 0636hrs Request Dust Off for VCS female with multiple frag wounds, she was hiding in bunker when we were sweeping and searching a Ville. We heard movement in the bunker called to come out; when no come out we tossed a frag into the bunker. The woman was seriously wounded Dust Off completed at 0700hrs. At 0840hrs Bravo Company the 21 and 51 element closed on Night Defense Position had negative results when checking out ambush site will be moving out of Night Defense Position in 30 minutes. At 1130hrs Bravo company at their Day Logger. At 1850hrs Bravo Company is about 500 meters south of our Night Defense Position site we will stop and wait until Dark. At 1945hrs priority Dust Off I US with twisted ankle and possible broken, Name Tyler, right ankle completed at 2000hrs. At 2040hrs Bravo Company we are in our Night Defense Position at this time BS800430 and the 91 element at grid BS784429, snake 51 grid BS795425 and the 51 snake at grid BS793430.
Charlie Company

Charlie Company has the Security Mission for LZ Liz with the Access Road.
Delta Company
August 22, 1969
At 0225hrs Delta Company spotted 5 to 10 personnel to the Northeast and 3 people spotted to our West. Delta Company engaged them and they dispersed and didn’t return fire. At 0620hrs the 11 element found 1 VC KIA, 1 M-14, 3 chi com about 30 meters outside the perimeter. At 0645hrs 2 military age males, late 20’s one is dressed in white shirt and black pants and the other had on green shirt and green pants. These two walked into a snake location and tried to run, where Delta Company apprehended and we believe them to be VC and evac to LZ Bronco. Delta Company is moving at 0710hrs to Day Logger at BS739457. The 21 element started doing patrolling in the Area of Operation. At 1935hrs Delta Company has moved into the Night Defense Position with the 44 and the 64 element snakes in position by 2110hrs.
Echo Company

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. At 0715hrs 4.2 Platoon reports Defense Targets 1, Observe Mission 2, expend 49 HE, 2 WP, and 3 Illumination rounds. Echo Company Headquarters has the responsibility for Base Defense. Recon Platoon is now leaving ambush location at this time. At 0737hrs Recon is at grid BS726467 will move out in 30 minutes. At 0917hrs Recon is at grid BS729445. At 1220hrs Recon will move out to Day Logger at 1700hrs, which will at grid BS732447 and our snake tonight will be grid BS725447. At 1705hrs Recon we are now leaving for out second Day Logger at BS732447 and move into it at 1755hrs. At 2005hrs Recon Platoon we are now in our snake location at this time BS729443.
