Headquarters and Headquarter Company
September 21, 1968

Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Chevy and will continued to work with ARVN units and Special Forces in their Area of Operations. Task Force Galloway reports the Arc Light flown on 20 September 1968 Bomb Damage Assessment so far in area large Bomb Craters and damage to the trees. The 1-20 Infantry begins their part in Operation CHAMPAIGN GROVE and OPCON to Task Force GALLOWAY.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and continued their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. The S-4 section has a group in Chu Lai working out of the 4-3 Infantry Rear. At 0250hrs LZ Bronco on Red Alert received approximately 10-12 60 or 82mm mortar rounds.

Alpha Company
September 21, 1968

At 0737hrs Alpha Company conducted a combat assault into cold LZ vicinity BS459665. Alpha Recon in force was conducted east to PZ at BS495665. At 1505hrs Alpha Company was extracted and airlifted back to HA THANH with negative contact. At 1715hrs Ha Thanh received 7 rounds 120mm mortar with negative casualties fired artillery with negative assessment. At 1900hrs Alpha Company at Ha Thanh received 5 rounds of mortar suspected location of tubes BS367707 negative casualties are firing artillery. At 2115hrs Ha Thanh OP 3-4 received hand grenade return fire with hand grenades, broke contact at 2145hrs negative casualties or damage.

Bravo Company
September 21, 1968

Bravo Company 1-20 Infantry at 0922hrs conducted a Combat Assault into cold LZ vicinity BS388601.and swept to the Southwest and Charlie Company 1-20 Infantry swept to the Southeast. At 1353hrs Bravo Company vicinity BS375580 found 1 concealed hootch, 25 pounds of rice, 1 khaki uniform, 1 VC pack and 1 M79 round destroyed. At 1432hrs Bravo Company vicinity BS378580 engaged 2 VC (1 in hole) and 1 evaded, results 2 VC KIA. At 1515hrs Bravo Company vicinity BS382592 engaged 3 VC in tunnel with hand grenade and results 3 VC KIA. At 1640hrs Bravo Company engaged 1 VC evading results 1 VC KIA at BS375586. Bravo & Charlie Companies established Night Defense Position as darkness fell on their operation.

Charlie Company
September 21, 1968

At 0853hrs Charlie Company conducted a Combat Assault to BS388601 and swept to the southeast of the LZ and at 1110hrs vicinity BS395593. Charlie Company found 1 VC in a hole who would not come out a hand grenade was thrown in resulting in 1 VC KIA. Bravo Company and Charlie Company established a Night Defense Position as darkness fell on their operation.

Delta Company
September 21, 1968

Delta Company continued their Security Mission for LZ Chevy.

Echo Company
September 21, 1968

Echo Company is located at LZ Chevy where Battalion Forward is and coordinates with the Battalion Rear Elements and Base Defense elements on LZ Chevy. The 4.2 Platoon is located on LZ Chevy where they continue to provide direct fire support for the (1-20 Infantry Battalion).
