Forward Area: 1-20 Infantry Headquarters is located at LZ Liz and will continued to work with ARVN units in their Area of Operations. At 0020hrs TMF fire Mission, time called 2354hrs String 67 target A, Station personnel with negative confirmation of metal, engaged at 0015hrs with 8 VT rounds 105 Artillery. At 0040hrs TMF Fire Mission time called 0035hrs String 75, target A, with negative confirmation of metal, negative clearance from MACV. At 0310hrs Radar advises that their scopes are not operable due to loss of power. At 0440hrs TMF Fire Mission time called 0405hrs String 67 Target A, stationary personnel with negative metal, engaged with 16 HE rounds 105 Artillery. At 0502hrs TMF Fire Mission, time called 0500hrs String 67 Target A with negative metal, and engaged at 0510hrs with 8 HE rounds 105 Artillery. At 1400hrs Requests Flame Drop Date/Time/Grid 221000hrs to 252400hrs grid BS728623 300 meters from the suspected enemy location. The enemy fired about 30 rounds of AK-47 from hidden bunkers the Ground call sign Lima 43, frequency 60.25. Ground troops will evac local civilians to a point beyond the safety area. Helix 36 completed Air Strike with Bravo Company sweeping the area. Legend 1st Platoon 03-08, 2nd Platoon 53-58, 3rd Platoon 83-88, 4th Platoon 63-68 and CO 43.

Rear Area: Battalion Rear continued their Mission of general support for the battalion and will continue their Security Mission for LZ Bronco. PFC Michael D. Iverson Medic Headquarters and Headquarter Company evac to B 23 Medical with frag wounds to face and eyes.

 

Alpha Company
October 21, 1970

Alpha Company is using multiple Patrolling and sweeping their Area of Operation. At 2030hrs Alpha Company elements are all in location with 43 element at BS767544, 53 at BS763557, 83 at BS766557, 56 at BS760558, 85 at BS774554, and 06 at BS764548.

 

Bravo Company
October 21, 1970

At 1052hrs Bravo Company 57 element while in a blocking force, engaged 5 VC with weapons resulting in captured 1SKS, 1 pair shorts, 1 shirt, 1 rucksack shot up with small arms fire 18 rounds of AK 47 ammo and 17 rounds of M-16 ammo. The VC evaded to the southeast and Bravo 57 pursued and found a blood trail Helix came on station to assist the element vicinity BS747563, a Tracker team was requested at 1120hrs. At 1142hrs Bravo Company 57 element has a Chieu Hoi from grid BS745573 he gave himself up and was wounded in the right leg from the earlier contact with the 57 element. He informed the Kit Carson Scout that there was 5 VC in a tunnel 1 female armed with 1 M-16 also they had 4 AK 47, 1 SKS. At 1158hrs Bravo Company request Urgent Dust Off for a Vietnamese Male (Chieu Hoi) with gunshot wounds to the leg, completed at 1210hrs. Tracker team for Bravo Company followed the enemy into the thickly wooded area and stopped approximately 50 to 100 meters from the suspected enemy location. The enemy fired 30 rounds of AK 47 from a hidden Bunker. Artillery firing one round every 5 seconds, as Bravo Company believed that they have 5 VC in Mangrove swamp. Also at 1450hrs Helix 36 completed Air Strike and Artillery put in (209 HE and 2 WP rounds). Bravo Company 43 and 53 elements swept the area and found 2 bunkers 5’ X 7’ one was destroyed by the Air Strike and the other contained parts of KIA body and some clothes with blood stains and documents. Approximately the 75 element outside the mangrove 43 element detained 2 VC females age 21, no ID, both wearing all black, were hiding. At the same location the 43 element found a 250 pounds bomb dud and requested EOD team. The Detainee and Tracker dog Team is to be evac to LZ Liz. At 1850hrs Bravo Company 03, 43, 53, and 63 elements while moving to their Night Defense Position spotted 1 person moving paralleled to them at grid BS745575. Where 5 VC evading during the contact earlier today engaged one person with small arms fire, 1 female KIA ages 35, no ID wearing all back.

 

Charlie Company
October 21, 1970

At 0915hrs Charlie Company request Routine Dust Off for Vietnamese female with food poisoning at grid BS729612, completed at 1215hrs. At 1020hrs Charlie Company requested a Urgent Dust Off for 3 US who hit a booby trap at grid BS728623. One has fag to face and eves, one has frag to legs, one frag to arms, Name Scott, Iverson, and Lang? They hit a 105 booby trap with pressure type release on trail, Dust Off completed at 1035hrs. Charlie Company closed on Night Defense Position at grid BS733622 at 1902hrs. SGT Richard H. Scott was evac to 27 surgical with multiple frag wounds both legs, right side and back, PFC Patrick D. Arthur evac to 23 Medical with frag wounds to face and eyes and PFC Michael D. Iverson Medic Headquarters and Headquarter Company evac to B 23 Medical with frag wounds to face and eyes.

 

Delta Company
October 21, 1970

Delta Company will continue their Security Mission for LZ Liz.

 

Echo Company
October 21, 1970

Echo Company headquarters and 4.2 Mortar Platoon is location on LZ Liz, where the 4.2 Platoon providing direct fire support for the Battalion. Echo Company Headquarters has the coordination responsibility for Base Defense. At 1450hrs Recon Platoon is moving to BS760413. At 1510hrs the Recon 03 element at checkpoint 1 and moving to checkpoint 2 at BS740433 and at 1716hrs Recon Platoon at checkpoint 3 at grid BS722429 with negative findings and at 1745hrs Recon closed on checkpoint 4 at BS722429. At 1935hrs Recon 04 element while moving to their preplanned ambush location at grid BS716436 engaged 1 VC 75 meters to the west. He was walking down the trail toward them, dropped, and crawled into heavy brush. Elements called for Illumination and assistance at 1940hrs. The 04 and 03 linked up and swept the area, found negative blood trails. Found the VC bush hat and tracks going to the west to the mountains. They have now moved into alternate location.
